So... I am a dancer/dance major with 2 herniated discs, and I was just wondering if anyone else has dealt with them, and has any helpful advice.. I'm miserable and in so much pain that I cry all of the time, and scared that it is going to ruin my dance career. :(

I have had one...in my lower back was in 1986...so was along time ago. I must say it was the worst pain I have ever had in my life...I couldn't function.

I eventually beat it...without surgery.

Is yours in your lower back or a different area?

I treat people with herniated discs every day at my office!
I know a thing or two ;)

I urge you to visit this website and find the nearest doctor to you with one of this machine: http://axiomworldwide.com/

It actually pulls the herniated disc back into place--no other treatment will do this! (The treatment is very gentle, I actually do it myself)
If you do not fix this herniated disc this way, then it will only get worse and worse, and yes, it might ruin your dancing career :(

The treatment might be expensive, but it is worth it 100%. fix it now before it gets to a worse stage of degeneration. A doctor will most likely work with you for a payment plan if your insurance doesn't cover much. i know at my office we really want patients to get the care they need so we do all sorts of different payment options to make it work for them. Most doctors might even offer a free consultation if you say someone referred you!

Send me an email if you have any questions, you can find it in my profile, i'd be happy to answer any questions you have to the best of my ability!

So it totally sounds good to be true. I have great insurance so I bet I could do it! I'm so excited. Can you help me find someone in the Chicagoland area that uses that machine and if not I could also get treated in the Oregon/Washington area when I go home on break.

PS its lower back L5 S1 and I think L4 L5 but the one that is causing the pain is between L5 and S1

I did research on it, and I'm literally the happiest and most hopeful I've been in weeks. Thank you so much. Are you a chiropractor? :)

I would listen to Jenna I think she does work with a chiropractor, seems like I remember reading that anyway :)

That machine looks awesome!

Like I said mine was along time ago 1986 and I got over it with exercises and traction (primitive form of decompression) :D...it kinda looks like this machine does a WAYYY BETTTER form of traction.

Good Luck! I feel your pain!

I'm not a chiropractor, but I work with three of them :)
I'm SO ecstatic to help you!! I'm glad you asked for help!

This machine is very different from traction, it actually focuses on the disc itself! It's really amazing what it does!! It's so gentle and relaxing, too; my patients fall asleep on it allll the time! lol, they lovingly call it "The Rack", though!

Here is an office in Chicago that has a spinal decompression machine. The treatment usually takes 8 weeks (three times a week); so i'm not sure if that's something you'd be able to do on a break

they offer free consult, but ask if that includes an exam and x-rays. consult and exam are different (more $$ for exam!)

I keep reading about law suits against them (the company who made the machine) etc etc. Are you sure its safe?

The only advise I can give you is...I been there done that...LOL :D I was looking at surgery...(had a frickin milogram....really sucked...sp?)....this started in 1985 and ended in 1986...before this machine...I used traction (it sucked..but no other choice) and exercises....several times a day, everyday...for months...I lost 50lbs during that time...and I wasn't that much overweight...was 30yrs old then. I couldn't do anything without meds...stand, sit, NOT...I could lay down without meds...but anything else....I had to be medicated. Worst damn thing in my life! I still have to be careful....or maybe its just in my mind...but I'm careful!! I have been able to do a full life of manual labor since... 25yrs plus..;)

There will be lawsuits with everything in healthcare.....welcome to the USA healthcare system. I'm a BIG advocate of alternate healthcare...but I was stupid...had a strong back and weak mind..duh  now I have a strong mind...and weak back..

You do have to do something...its not going to get better...WITHOUT doing something...you may think your in GREAT shape...doing dance....but you have to concentrate on the back and doing things that relate to your back. The machine may fix you forever and you can do whatever forever and never think about your back....just NOT my experience....I still do exercises for my back...and pay close attention to how I do things....

Best of luck to you!!
dave

Thats my story...in short...YOU CAN"T IGNORE it....you have to do something.....exercises and traction worked for me YRS AGO...I still do the exercise to this day...I never want to experience that again (motivation).

Yeah I keep trying to tell my parents that. I desperately want to try the machine. I can't even imagine a day in my life where I'm not in pain anymore, and I can't even make it through a full dance class. I need some sort of help soon. I'm so miserable.:(

The machine is perfectly safe. It's being used worldwide and has been thoroughly tested and approved.

I'm not sure what lawsuits you're reading up on  I've never heard of any

I use the machine myself, I put my dear sweet mother on this machine, we put 90 year old men on the machine. It works in a way that if it malfunctions for any reason, or if you react to it a strange way, the machine will actually shut off and cease to continue (but of course, that's only in extreme cases)

I can tell you right now that surgery WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. It only masks the pain symptoms. We have several people come to us asking us to help them, but they have had the back surgery and cannot get any results from our machine. They have had the surgery, and STILL HAVE BACK PAIN! After you have surgery, the machine treatment will not work because surgeons have fused the vertebrae together with screws and whatnot.

Chiropractors are generally the doctors who have this machine, and their malpractice insurance is WAY lower than any Medical Doctor!! So many more people get hurt etc. from MDs than Chiropractors. Hopefully that settles you a bit :)

The only time we have had a problem in our office is when people don't see results, but of course these are people who are much older and have more advanced stages of degeneration, and they happen to not be very patient :o

If you are patient, do the treatment, and follow what the chiropractor says, I bet you will be pain-free soon enough! I have a patient right now who has only had 8 treatments and he started feeling relief after the first week or so. Some people take longer, but every one is different :)
It's like raw food, it didn't take 2 days for one to gain all the weight they need to lose; it didn't take 2 days for that herniated to happen!

I'm only 22 and I had severe back pain for almost 2 years before I started working for a chiropractor and got it fixed. I am so grateful! I was in so much pain every day, I know exactly how you feel!! At least give it a shot before ever considering surgery, that could just ruin you!

I agree about the surgery...I DIDN"T have surgery....but the doc kept telling me if I decided to have it he would do it...but he didn't put any pressure on me to have it (rare nerosurgeon I would say) :D He just told me to go home do the exercises... I did traction at home...it took 6-7 months for it to finally leave....and thank god its never been back.

Surgery would be my very last option...
