Maintaining my goal to run a mile. Worked up to 60-80 min on the treadmill in January so that's positive. This month I want to add strength training back into the mix as well as yoga!!

Yesterday I did Yoga. Tonight I'm doing Yoga. Tomorrow night I'm doing Yoga.... AND TAI CHI!!! *bounce bounce*

I'm SO EXCITED. :D :D

My very first Tai Chi class experience begins tomorrow, finally!!! I can hardly wait!!! It's going to take alot of self-discipline to sit through my Classes and professionally conduct the interviews I have lined up tomorrow between Classes (new article in the works) thinking about my Tai Chi Class #1 at 5:15pm......

Okay, logging off here finally. Been blogging out my thoughts and celebrations all night here and on Facebook. Time to turn down the lights and bliss out before bed with some Sun Salutations.

Hi all, I'm joining you this month. I used to work out a lot (Capoeira Angola for many years, and lately Ashtanga Yoga). But because I got sick with angina twice this Fall, I felt more weak lately and also practiced less than usual. Then - to be predicted - I got injured (my body was not as strong as I assumed it to be), and so in December I practiced even less because of my arm injury (torn muscle tissue).
I need movement otherwise I start to feel depressed, and December I felt really low in the dump. In January I started to get my act together again, joined Green Woman's 90 day raw challenge, and started running at the beach since I can't put weight on my arm. I'm trying to get back into shape, I feel I lost a lot of endurance and I've gained about 15 pounds this Fall (I'm guessing since I don't have a scale, but it's more than a dress size).

Now I alternate running days with "soft-yoga" days and it is nice to understand that I have been over-pushing myself in Ashtanga, concentrating much more on the physical than on the energetic and spiritual aspects. It's wonderful to do a stretching series in yoga without over-exerting myself. And the body feels alive afterwards! I've been feeling really good again since I started moving again. My body so craves this!!

All this said, I am here to join you this month, and these are my goals:
1. Go running at the beach 2-3 times a week. Minimum 2 miles, but working my way up to 3 miles.
2. Do a soft yoga routine every morning that I don't go running.
3. Do Tai Chi 2x week (I'm starting a class today)
4. Get the endorphines flowing daily and be HAPPY!

Looking forward to this month with all of you!

Had a 90 minute Kali stick class last night. Whew! That was fun!!!! We're back outside for the room and it was CHILLY!

Don't have anything planned today except more stick practice. Probably get some kb swinging in; I really need to get back on the ground ~ and up.

G_W, how was taiji? I use to teach it. Short Form ~ 42. What style/form you taking?

Hmmm. It's 3:30. Lots of time to go for a good long walk before my show this morning. Hmmm. I think that's going to happen. Oh yes! :)

The 24 was what I learned first, then went to another teacher and learned the 42 which I liked better and taught for many years. The long form is the usual one. By the way *whispers* taiji is a form of qigong. :)

That class is "Taoist Tai Chi for Healing" if that means anything...? Nope! Not yet! Waiting for you to tell us! heh!

Just came back from an afternoon walk. Maybe about 3 miles. Forgot my pedometer. Went to the bank, then dropped off my application for volunteer in the sheriff's dept. Might as well begin my 61st year having even more fun (at least I hope it's fun)! ;)

Hey all! I'm doing a 30 day yoga challenge this month; I started Saturday so I'm on day 4 today. I feel great so far! I'm working through some quadracep tendonitis, so I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of changes can come from 30 days raw and 30 days of yoga :) Great job to all of you so far!

Sounds like everyone is off to a wonderful, fully charged start!

I thought a little bit more about what I want my goals to be this month, since I've been a little too idle for my liking......

I will teach/do my 2 yoga classes per week on Tues/Thurs.

In addition to them I want to do a short workout video (30min or so) in the mornings before work.....to build my stamina enough to start the P90X lean series again at the end of the month.....;) (I only got through about 3 weeks of the 90 days last year - I WILL get through the 90 days this year!!)

Hope your class was awesome - sorry for making assumptions about what you might learn....I just get so excited when people want to try Tai Chi as it is something that has served me so very well for so many years and is very, very close to my heart :) There are so many variations of the form and ways to practice :)

Since I missed Tai Chi class I practiced putting fire into my form doing both the 24 (both sides) and the 63 Tai Chi Chaun (my favorite form). The thing I love about it is after 9+ years of study, it never gets old :)

Also fit in 30 min on treadmill - easy paace walk

Yesterday and today I practiced yoga in the morning. About 30 minutes with a few downward dogs and standing poses and then mainly stretching. I also meditated both times. I wanted to start a tai chi class yesterday, but I didn't feel on top physically at all, so I postponed for a week. My next scheduled run is on Friday, and it's going to be 3 miles (with walking in-between).

So sad... no Tai Chi class for me, at least not THAT one... they're holding it in a carpeted room, and I'm allergic to carpet. In fact I've been battling symptoms all day as a result of just 30 minutes in that room. :(

However, I'm keeping steady with my daily Yoga... and I've started doing Yoga in the MORNING to wake/warm myself up before eating my breakfast and heading to School. It's a great feeling to start the day stretched and ready! :D

Meantime, the Tai Chi intrigued me greatly... I loved the fluid movement and how relaxed and yet energized I felt after just a brief introduction session. I am going to try to find a studio that has wood or tile floors in town and will give it another go.

Change of plans for me here, I've decided that I need to be doing Isometric daily and mixed it up here and there with walking. Untill I get into a habit of exercising daily with a super good attitude on a steady daily basic for some good time, then I'll make my routine alot more exciting and more challenging with diversity. That's just me and trying to find away that works for me to get up and going daily to exercise for a lifestyle. I don't want it to be something that I just do here and there anymore.

A tip to remind myself that a habit becomes a true habit after three months of doing so.

And my goal is to develop exercises into a habit with an awesome attitude for a lifetime!! :)

Super Good Exercise Attitude Always!!!

I meant 60 :o It's one of the long forms. It's really beautiful and if you were to look at it from above it would look like a spiral. It really coils up like a spring. It's got some one footed turns and one with a kick at the end. There was a man I studided with who was in his 80's his flexibility was insane and to watch him do that last kick...tears and goosebumps. He has since passed but I still think of him when I get there.

Last night I did 50 min on the treadmill with 20 minutes of intervals (walk one/run one) I really want to be a runner!!

No yoga class last night - start back up next week :)

Did Yoga in the morning yesterday but not at night. Didn't do Yoga this morning (and slept way late), doing it tonight.

I don't think I like this... I think I prefer doing 10 minutes in the morning and 10 at night, again... that seemed to work out perfectly!!! :D

I am gradually figuring out what works for my incredible, beautiful, healthy, strong Body... and I think she's as happy as I am that I'm starting to "get it"! :D

I went running today at the beach. I wanted to go yesterday but couldn't get myself to. It was raining and cold out. Running today in the sunshine was much better.
It went better than last time, still I had to stop briefly four times to stretch and rest. But I did my three miles. Yeah. Then I meditated by the sea. :-)
Now I'm back home, am having my super big blended smoothie, and am ready for a productive day. Happy day you all!

I have several Kundalini-dvds by Ana Brett & Ravi Singh. This one is called "Journey through the Chakras". I also liked "Kundalini for beginners and beyond" but for some reason it gave me and a friend of mine both a persistent pain in the lower back. I can't explain this, I can't even pinpoint the pose it might have been connected to (it could be both not being adjusted right which is a danger with dvd-self-practice OR some kundalini energy releasing (but it didn't feel like that, to be honest). Journey through the chakras is nice if you are into this kind of thing. Ravi Singh talks quite a lot and explains the chakras. I personally prefer more quiet instruction, but it makes sense in this context, I guess. It's worth a try, definitely. (They also have "Dance the Chakra Yoga Workout" which is unlike anything I've ever done and which is REALLY fun. A totally energetic way to start the day, but less stretching and less focusing.)

I have not yet missed a day of Yoga since January 1... much like eating raw/living foods, it's becoming a daily habit, so much so that I don't think twice about it, but if I come close to MISSING a day, that's when I start thinking about it!!! MISSING a day would SUCK... I don't think I could sleep without Yoga.

I also feel like I'm becoming sturdier... more fit in general. Nice feeling - I've always had a reputation for being a wimp, and I'm shedding that reputation with my healthy new Raw ways! :D

Today I went for a long run at the beach again. It went much better than the other times, I only had to stop twice in about 2.5 miles, and both the stops were on the way back. I was also was running much faster than the last couple of weeks. I am getting better stamina! Yeah! I always do yoga stretches during the breaks from running and afterwards, same today. Then I meditated again. I had a crazy night. I fell asleep sometime in the middle of the night with my heart beating and my thoughts racing. I felt like cxxx in the morning, but after the run I'm a new person. Every single time I'm astounded - though I know this for 17 years at least - that when I get my body moving, my mind clears up too. It's such a gift. And that's it for me! We're already the second week into February and going strong... Yeah to all of you!

I am not a physical trainer and just sharing my experiences from John e Peterson's book. I highly recommend to get his book before starting any isometric workout!!!

Here are links to give an idea of what isometrics is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1haS8hR1lE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ve_NBhUTWY

I googled this info:
Although isometric exercises may result in a great deal of benefit to the individual, there are some precautions that should be noted. Specifically those with high blood pressure should not engage in this type of activity because isometric exercises cause a spike in blood pressure. Although the blood pressure typically returns to normal rather quickly once the muscle is relaxed, the spike in blood pressure can be dangerous to those who already suffer from elevated blood pressure. If you suffer from high blood pressure but you really want to engage in isometric exercises, please consult with your doctor for tips on how to lower blood pressure first.

I am just curious. I didn't think you were trying to give professional advice. It just sounded interesting. I looked up your links, thanks for those.

I'm still alternating my yoga and running days. Today was a running day again. 3 miles, and I'm pushing more into the "zone" - trusting that I will make it even if I exert myself. It's great fun, and today was a gorgeous day, high 70s. People out in bikinis while I (and others) were running down the beach... It's almost like paradise here, but to make up for it (cosmic balance?) on my way home the main street was blocked off with a bomb threat (or actual bomb, I couldn't tell). Such is life here, paradise and its opposite so close to each other.

I did my 3 mile run today. I think it was hard today because I didn't have enough sleep, and because half of the distance was on soft sand (not wet sand). Nevertheless, I did it, I pushed, and I felt great afterwards. Later in the day I did the same stretch again on my bike as I was meeting friends around town. A good day. Tired now, but happy.

Yesterday and today only soft and short yoga with some free-form dancing. Yesterday this was intentional, because it was my day off from working out. Today I woke up with an eye infection and don't feel like straining my body. I miss going to the beach and running (so that's great, it seems to become a habit), but I feel to disoriented to go running, and it hurts. So... healing my body and being patient and understanding is my goal for today.

I hope your eye heals quickly! Doing some warm compresses may help. Also if you have any chamomile tea - you could do compresses using that. Feel better~

I made a small valuable investment to get strong and into shape for 2010 and for life. I got a good selection of Exercise DVDS from Collage. What's nice about ordering from this company is that I get to watch a video clip for any exercise DVD to decide whether it's worth my time or not! This selection I got is for when I don't feel like doing my regular routine that I love to do just to mix things up and that I am at least doing something everyday to keep the energy flowing in my body daily!! Plus this is my selection of "No Excuses, Just Exercise with Love Daily!!"

By the way Shine, I got this great DVD that focus on Push-ups and Abs (yay!! To get closer to the strength that Coach Tara has for push-ups). Here is the name of the DVD if you're interested, "ILARA ABS & PUSHUPS PLUS BY ILARA MONTAGNANI."

So today, looks like I will be doing, "SQUEEZE STRONGER W/ TRACY EFFINGER." Let you know how it turns out next time!! :)

Affrimations:
My body is blessed!!
My mind, heart, attitude, and body is passionate about working out!
My body functions with love and harmony!!!

I know I tend to do better with every night (in my case) Tai Chi, because not only does it make me feel GREAT, I have something to look forward to at then end of a long day! I am hoping to incorporate more yoga too :)

I did my Yoga tonight. A short session, but it was lovely... I've been experiencing a lot of muscular strain in my wrists and pain during the day, so I'm having to pace myself a little more on wrist-intensive activities, such as Vinyasa stretches (and typing + texting are killers, too).

I'm figured it out though and I am simply amazed at how sturdy and QUICK to recover my Body is on Raw.... Raw is AWESOME!!!

Today 40 minutes of very soft yoga with a Brett/Singh DVD. The focus was on stimulating the thyroids and glands, so there were a lot of hot breathing-exercises and only little stretching. But it feels good for a change.
My pain in my left arm (from a muscle tissue rip) has come back after I did Shiva Rea's DVD two times. The asanas weren't even really challenging, but my arm seems to not be able to take any weight. Since the pain was gone, I was sure it was almost healed. Oh well. Back to kundalini-yoga only for now. :p
