View Full Version : Fasting together for February!

Since the January fasting thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=57342) is so long, I thought I'd start up a new one for February.
I am still fasting on whatever I feel like fasting on in the moment. It might be coconut water (liquid inside the young coconut), it might be water, tea or a veggie or fruit juice.
I'm 39 days in to my fast and still going strong. I'm not sure how long I'll fast, but I'm open, willing and able to do this for a while longer. The joke in our home is that I will be done by Thanksgiving LOL
So... let's fast. ER, Border, bike, dharma, Renee, MR, donna... Beth and Earthmama are you two still fasting? I'm sure I'm missing some... let's do this!!!
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/heap.gif
This is the commitment I make to my Self:
During this fast I am choosing to drink a minimum of 2 litres of water every day and as much juice as I choose.
If I'm only drinking water, I'll up my intake according to my body's desires.
I choose to only consume raw live juices and lots of water.
I will surround myself with Love.
I will remember to be kind with others and gentle with my Self.
If I'm grumpy, I'll go take a walk, light a candle, take a bath or meditate.
I will not end my fast on a bad day.
I will not end my fast today, but I can choose today to end it tomorrow.
I will remember that I am a cherished child of The God/dess and my spiritual beliefs, my body and other people's knowledge will guide me during my fast.

Hi!
Not been on the forums for a while, but kept on living raw.
I have planned to fast for February, and began January 30. Water fast at the moment, and I may switch to juice fast after a while. My goal is to fast for the complete month.
I've already done several fasts before, but not this long. I'll see and listen to my body.
So, it will be a pleasure to join this thread! Thank you for creating it Aleesha!

I'm in, and very excited to attempt to fast on water, juice, and herbal tea the month of February.
I will really need the support and encouragement here, and no I'm not a weak person, I just really love food, and I live in a house with 4 kids who homeschool, and a hubby that likes his food too ;)
And I will encourage others, and offer any insight if I have any to share.
Is it better to start your fast with your first day being a water fast?
I'm just wondering since I've been eating pretty heavy and not raw the last 2 weeks, if it would be better to start with water, or cleanse with fruit juice?
Thanks!!

Wow, Aleesha, 39 days already?! Good for you! I guess I'm jumping over here too...it's good to have a fresh start for a new month. I'm listening to the FAQ at fasting.ws to remotivate me...

Hi! Welcome here!
Water fast is always difficult for me the first 3 days, but it is much smoother for me now that I especially watch my food intake before the fast.
So in your case, if you plan to do a WF, I'd think about juicing a few days before switching to water, this will make the detox much easier in my opinion. So that you'll not switch abruptly from cooked to water fast.
Listen to you body, fasting is a great spiritual and physical experience.

D&C, I'm sure Aleesha will comment, as she's the resident fasting guru lol. But for my money, I say start with juice and then do a single day of water, say once a week. But last week after I did water for a day, I ended up eating. So be careful. :)

i couldn't agree with you all more!!! definitely juice and then water if you feel like it. i like to start my fasts off with water... but i sure couldn't have done that in the beginning. something else i found VERY helpful... is to start with blended drinks (green smoothies and blended fruit [mono fruit mostly] for the first few days WITH water and juices. this slowed my digestion down instead of just stopping it. i found it much easier to get into my fast.
so that's another option for anyone to ponder.
cause the reality is... you have a lifetime to fast. this is not the only time you can do it. you can fast for as long as you desire... there is nothing stopping you... AND the most successful you feel the better you'll do. so start your fast however you need to. the important part here is that you are doing it.
so whether on blended drinks for a few days, juice only or water only... follow what you need to do it. if you need a blended drink do that... there are no rules, no fasting police.
follow your bliss!!!
that's what i do. i follow my bliss.
i'm sooooo excited for this new thread. a new thread always brings new energy and can't we all use a little of that! (((hugs)))

Hi! Thank you for your warm welcome! Yes, it's already the beginning of day 3 for me. Felt really good the first 2 days, but last night, I had some major detox symptoms (nausea, headache, weakness and awful perspiration). I feel much better this morning and I am so glad to be fasting. My body really needed this!
The third day is usually my worst, so I now it will soon be easier once the first detox wave is gone. So, water again today, with some herbal tea and 1 lemon juice. That's it for me.
Hope you all feel well! One question Aleesha, I always assumed you were American, are we in the same time scale?

Happy "Fastuary" Everyone!
I started yesterday on water only, to kick off my fast. Today I'll be adding vegetable juices (green smoothies & carrot), plus herbal teas and of course, water. I'm nervous/excited, and so glad to be doing this with others... What a massive help that will be. I haven't fasted in several years, so I'm hoping this isn't too tough. My water fast yesterday was honestly a breeze!!
Today though, I feel the pangs already... And plus, I have to work ten hours today... So I figure adding some juice is wise. Aleesha thanks for leading this =)
Best of luck to all!

Lauren, I LOVE that!!!! :D
Hey EVERYONE!!!!
I'm fasting till dinner the next three days at least...I may continue to let that be my regular routine... Got Veggies/Fruits ready for juicing and Coconuts in Fridge ready for Smoothie making!!! I don't think I want to fast full out, though...will probably do Fast till Dinner and eat a 1 RAW meal in the evening. I won't discuss that here, though... I've kinda been doing that since my last fast and I really like how I feel. So, during the day...only Juice and Coconut for me!!! :)

Here's what I'm thinkin'
if you'll lend me your ears.
I'll soon be a drinkin'
with some of my peers.
I'll get halitosis,
My skin will be dry,
If I break out in pimples
I swear I won't cry.
My muscles may cramp
from the toxins unloading.
I might just get a headache,
But that's better than exploding.
Detox won't be pleasant
Some people do say,
But the payoff's rewarding
At the end of the day.
This trip could be short,
Or a month, or a week.
For fasting duty I report.
Improved health's what I seek.
I've got the rig warming up-
A stack of reading material.
With the lime in the coconut,
It's bound to get ethereal.
I've scraped all the windows.
She's building up air.
Done checked all the tires.
Even the spare.
So, you can have shotgun.
Can you adjust that right mirror?
This sure will be fun.
It'll be nice thinking clearer.
Sunglasses I'm wearin'-
An engineer's cap I'm sportin'.
The radios blarin'.
The exhaust is a snortin'.
We're ready to rock
And roll as they say,
So, for a safe trip
For all, I do pray.

Street, that is a great poem! ER and MR are soooo gonna love it! I usually drive the water tanker during fasts... (the fasting bandit that I am) but I'd happily go shotgun with ya!
Renee, good to see you.
Lauren, I'm not leading... I'm riding this wave beside you all the way. If you need a place to lay your head, my shoulder is right here. (((hugs)))
Seems like everyone is either starting or started... I bet there will be many more joining us during the month...
and so... *reaches over to the driver's seat and turns the key*... street... drive!!!
I'm not sure if we are doing Reiki today or just 'teaching' but there will be some meditation on there which I'm looking forward to!

Aw, thanks. I hope I didn't overdo the detox symptoms. They really aren't as bad as I made them sound. I don't want to discourage anyone. Make yourselves to home y'all. Pshht...Brakes released, ka-ding, ka-ding, ka-ding, (that's the exhaust flapper), clunk-(in gear/synchros are worn, sorry), gggggwroooooaaar, gggggwroooooaaar, gggggwroooooaaar, we're rolling now. Looks clear all the way to Tucumcari. I need this fast. Thanks for the encouragement, team!
Ok, enough of that theme for now. I will start out with juices until the groceries get low, then switch to water I suppose. I'm going to try to catch up on some reading and meditation during the fast, maintain a fitness program of some sort, and occasionally annoy my friends here at RFT. I need to exercise the self discipline part of my brain. I slacked off too much on exercise and diet in January and have some sore joints and muscles as a result. Time to ratchet it up a notch.
See ya on the road!

Hi friends...
I am on the end of day two. Planning to get to bed early, since I was beyond exhausted today. I had all water yesterday, and all water plus some carrot-celery-spinach juice today, when I thought I was going to faint... For now I'm feeling better... Someone please tell me that day 3 is easier than day 2?? Do most of you take senna or psyllium during fasts?
I've been a psyllium fan for a while, but it feels like it would make me sick to swallow right now... Perhaps some Chocolate Smooth Move ;)
Anyways, hope everyone is doing great!!! xoxoxo

I do drink Smooth Move, and was wondering if it would be o.k. to include on the fast. I drink it due to motility disorder, I really don't care for the taste
though :p
Here is what I had today.....
32 oz water upon rising
16 oz warm lemon water
12 oz Herbal Smooth Move
32 oz water
32 oz including crushed ice decaf. green tea
32 oz water
6:15 pm added my first juice (1 mango, some pineapple, 2 apples)
It made 16 oz, and I drank 8 waited an hour then drank the other 8 oz
32 oz water
10:15 pm I plan on drinking 3 stalks of celery with one apple, I heard that celery really helps with insomnia. I've already made it and it's in the fridge waiting for me :)
I know one thing for sure, my kidneys and bladder sure are being cleansed!!
I wonder if the celery juice at bedtime will make me get up all night to go to the bathroom??
Mood wise, I don't really want to talk about it  I want to stay positive and keep telling myself that this is going to help me, not hurt me.
After today though, the end of February looks very far, far away.
I will be the little engine that could, but instead of saying "I think I can"
I will be saying "I know I can, I know I can, ,,,, I knew I could!!!" :D
Day one almost under our belts, yeah for all of us!!!

I took slippery elm in water on my last fast to help keep things flowing. I did go maybe three days between day three and day six without hardly passing anything. After breaking the seven day fast it took nearly three days to have a normal bm. There were several small ones up to that. No discomfort with any of them. It worked well for me to follow the one meal of fruit for each day of the fast plan. The first day breaking was just juice, second day I think I had one or two meals juice and then fruit whole. Next day fruit all day. then fourth day out added harder foods. Until I did that this last time, I would sometimes have difficulty. The slippery elm also seemed to settle the stomach during the fast, but I doubt digestion stays shut down completely with it. It is said a person could use it as a survival food if needed.
Today I juiced a cuc, a granny, a pink lady, four carrots, a lime, two oranges, added some aloe juice and coconut water. That gave me two meals and had water the rest of the day. Little headache, lot of peeing, gabby and energetic as you can tell.
Oh yes, I was on the fence about supplements, so I took them today but will taper off most, and not take them when I switch to water.
Included was 1T. maca, 600 i.u. of D, 500mcg B12, Two multi's. As long as I'm juicing they don't seem to bother me.
Congrats LaVita (or do you prefer Lauren) and Cathy. The slippery elm powder in water will go down nicely LaVita if you want to try that. I get it at Whole Foods. And day three of my last one was easier for me IIRC...the system starts to shut down when on water between day three and five usually, from what I've read. Then the hunger subsides.
I think smooth move is the yogi tea, yes? I took it before on water fast, if so. Was fine. I also start the day with lemon water at times. What I do for headaches crankiness, or hunger, is commit to grabbing a glass of water when I am bothered by either of them. It distracts me from the mood, and seems to squelch the hunger. Once I've had enough the headaches fade too.............
Keep your heads up, shoulders back, team. It gets easier.

had a super busy great day today. woke up with water, juiced a watermelon and drank a litre... had a litre of OJ out today at a juice bar and then another litre of coconut water when i got home.
picked up 4 or 5 enormouse pineapples, 2 of the hugest cantaloupes and 5 small watermelons today... mama is going to juicing tonight and freezing for later!!! ohhhhhhhhh yaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Yeah, my fast last month was pathetic.
Only 25 days..
Still, I passed my old 20 day record.
Major, major road bump dealing with
absolutely horrible (!) med withdrawals.
You don't want to know how bad it was.
Even included a major wifey fight (she loves to fight :D)
We were at her mom's (the best maw in law on earth! Really)
and I felt soooooo bad, I just up & went,
took her car and went home.
I knew she'd have a ride back with her sister
but boy did I pay for it.
Well all is better now but these last few days were
really a trip!
Moral of the story:
During a fast -
* Don't attempt anything too drastic.
* With major changes, go extremely gradual.
* Stay CALM. As much as you can avoid all drama.
* Don't let anything distract you from focusing on your fast.

Hi all, will join you if you don't mind, been on and off fasting lately, but really need to keep the momentum...
Will be fasting on water, coconut Juice, sugar cane "master Cleanse", since I am located in Asia (Vietnam) sugar cane is readily available, and also gotu kola juice.
I have a question tho, is it alright to take supplement during a Fast.?
I'm taking: flaxseed oil softgel
Gac fruit oil softgel
mangosteen tea
Goji berries
My longest fast was 7 days on the master cleanse, I did feel good at the end, but I also felt that it was enough...
Thanx and Happy Detox

Hi All!!!
Wanted to peek my nose in since I'm really still "half" fasting!!! Also wanted to say "CONGRATULATIONS" to you, Aleesha on 40 DAYS!!!! :D You are such an inspiration to us all!!!
Right now sipping on warm lemonade which really makes me belly feel great!! After that will juice my luscious RUUUBY RED GRAPEFRUIT and add my chlorella powder to it... Has absolutely become MY FAVE on my 23 day fast :p
So nice to see all the new energy here in the February thread!!! Renee, I like what you say about fasting during the day and a raw meal at nite.... I'm in the "process" of breaking my 23 day fast (would be day 25 for me) so I'm still sorta on the fence, but think I do need to incorporate some fats into my diet at this point. I like the idea of mostly fasting ;)
Blessings to all of you on your FABulous FASTuary!!! Like ER says, just stay focused ~ also Aleesha's advice of nurturing your body to help get you through!!! Move those toxins... move those toxins.... OUT OUT OUT!!!
Cheers :D

Hi all and Alisha, thanks for starting a new thread. I am oon my 2nd day of the master cleanse, but am modifying a bit. I like to add Kombucha tea and some coconut water.
These first few days are always a little tough for me, but going back to this forum usually keeps me motivated.
I am aiming for the 10 day's, but one day at a time for me. I've done this cleanse before, but never have felt that "feeling" that everone talks about. Maybe I am not going long enough. I have a 2 and 3 year old and sometimes I get too irritated while fasting.
Anyway, trying to keep my eye on the prize (clean system)!!
Thanks,
Liz

Thanks ER, I think I'm learning these morals early!!
Yesterday I felt so quiet and cold to everyone which is not "me"
Noise was driving me crazy, I didn't want anyone touching me, and I felt mad for no reason?? I don't think it is detox, because yesterday was my first day, I think it had more of an emotional reason (dealing with food).
This morning I feel a little more peaceful, and have the mindset that I CAN DO THIS.
I think it makes it challenging too, because I homeschool our 4 kidos, and there is not much quiet around here, but that's o.k. I love being with my kids, it's just I may have to apologize for being grumpy a few days this month.
Have a "HAPPY" day :D

I disagree... I believe that when we make the commitment to our body to fast... it knows it. It starts doing the work right away!
Making any big decisions while fasting (like leaving your marriage) is not a good idea. Everything looks different when you are done fasting. ;)
Nice to see some new faces... I can't comment on some of the supplements myself. I can comment on people saying they need to add fats.
Adding a tsp of hemp and/or flax oil every couple of days (either to a juice or just off the spoon) is something that is good to do. I do this during extended fasts. I love adding it to my tomato juice - adds a lovely flavour.
ER, never had flying lessons... and I'm a little afraid of heights... so I'll pass on your new juice LOL
I'm babysitting today... so I'll take some cantaloupe/pinapple juice with me. Off to juice that now.
love you all,

Was wondering, Aleesha, what type of juicer do you have that juices pineapple so well? Mine did not do well with it at all.... and canteloupe??? didn't know you could actually extract the juice from a canteloupe....
anyone else have a juicer that "juices" these fruit really well??? I have a single auger masticating juicer that does not do well with melons or pineapple (altho, does do watermelon with the rind quite well) ~ an Omega 8005 ~ love it for greens, wheatgrass and other things, though!!

DG - There are a few outstanding juicers on the market, tons of good ones as well as so-so ones. I have a Champion myself, which has lasted for over 30 years and refuses to go to juicer heaven. It's great for all things except wheatgrass and real course, stringy stuff.
Here's a thread I threw together a while back on juicers:

Hi Everyone!
Nice poem streetsurfer! Don't worry, it won't discourage anyone to fast. It actually made me laugh cause that is just so true, but we know it's for our own good :)
Aleesha, congrats for day 40 (thanks again for this support thread), and congrats to everyone for day 2! It's great to see you all fasting while I feel like an alien IRL.
Today is the end of day 4 for me.
Day 1 and 2 no problem, was happy alone in home, water fast with some herbal tea and lemon juice. Had energy and ran 15min in the morning.
Day 3, after and awful night (detox...) saw some friends, kept water fasting, but I had to eat a banana and drink some almond milk:mad:. My body didn't really reacted though, detox symptoms are still there and no BM so I guess my digestion is still shut.
Day 4
Water fast again, herbal tea and some lemon juice.
I walked a lot today and feel a little bit tired tonight. Went to the restaurant with my sister, I drank a tea while she ate. The smell of food (particularly SAD food) has no effect on me. I don't feel hunger, and when I see food,it's more my mind wanting to eat it than my stomach.
Tomorrow, I expect I'll have to drink a smoothie in the evening, cause I'm supposed to eat with a friend before going to a concert. I'll see how I feel and adapt.
After tomorrow, I'll try to reduce my social events so I can concentrate on water fasting until the 10th or the 15th of February, then I'll switch to juice fast.
Happy fastuary everyone (I love this word!) Keep on rawking!

Ughhh I'm on day 3!!! I'm mostly on water, having only 24 ounces of juice (carrot, celery, spinach, apple, ginger) a day, to prevent total insanity, and my bosses thinking I"m a nut job... So mostly I'm on water... Feeling much better than expected... But still hungry. Evenings are difficult... Sitting here with my mother who's eating!! Plus, I work as an event planner -- tons of temptation every where... But I'm going to Miami with a new guy at the end of the month, so I just keep envisioning that when I become too insane to even meditate
But overall, I'm good. Since Monday I've lost 3 pounds, so that's pretty awesome... I feel not yet euphoric, but have had some very minor feelings of contentment...
Anyone know when I will start to feel normal again? I know I'm OK for now, but if I keep feeling this on edge, I won't be able to do this for ten days... I'd probably have to stop at seven if this icky feeling doesn't let up a bit.

Was wondering, Aleesha, what type of juicer do you have that juices pineapple so well? Mine did not do well with it at all.... and canteloupe??? didn't know you could actually extract the juice from a canteloupe....
my champion does cantaloupe amazingly quick... my greenstar does watermelon like a total champ. i use my greenstar if i'm juicing pineapple with something else, if it's just pineapple, i use my champion!
Anyone know when I will start to feel normal again? I know I'm OK for now, but if I keep feeling this on edge, I won't be able to do this for ten days... I'd probably have to stop at seven if this icky feeling doesn't let up a bit.
every one and every fast is unique... so no one can answer that for ya. sorry...
A note for everyone here:
Please don't get into specifics about food in the fasting thread. Just reading about food (SAD or Raw recipes) can make it hard for fasters... so please... feel free to mention "they ate in front of me" but don't get into specifics as to what they ate.
Now... back to our regularly scheduled programming...
I'm doing really great today. I expected to want way more juice than I did. Normally babysitting is a hard day for me fasting-wise (as the kids eat constantly) but it was no problem today for me.
I had a gorgeous coconut water first thing, then a litre later in the day, and I just had a beautiful watermelon/strawberry blend... mmmm
So 2.5 litres in total. No water all today. Not in the mood for it.
I'm in the zzzzzoooooooonnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeee!!!

Thank you. More drama yesterday between wifey and our wayward son. I got out my emotional fire extinguisher and squelched that stuff. Family stuff, true, but drama, drama..
Calmness is vital for a fast. ;)
The "25 + 3" (above) is my January fast with a gap. I really hope to keep going long term.
Another thing..
When you get to feelin' good on a fast and you're flying along, it's important to get plenty of rest, Otherwise, if you start shorting yourself on sleep, and pushing it, it's like WOOHOO! this is great!.. then CRASH.
The immune system can suffer and you can get sick, which is exactly what happened to me last year.
So beloveds.. get your much needed rest. :)

If I don't begin to feel some of the things you're all experiencing, I'll likely break this fast on Friday... I'm going to stay on tomorrow, since that will round me out at five days... But right now the original ten that I'd hoped for sounds incredibly daunting. Best of luck to all of you tonight and tomorrow =)

Lauren, are you drinking enough juice? Especially in the beginning, it's important to "stuff" yourself, so the detox is not too rapid. If you drink too little juice, you risk re-polluting your cells because your body is not capable of eliminating toxins quickly enough, which will make you feel crappy. Also, if you feel bad, I would highly recommend doing a colonic, or at least an enema, because waste can build up in the colon. Going for a walk everyday is really helpful, too.
Maybe if you list your symptoms/what you've been drinking, some people here can give you suggestions. ;)

THanks so much for the insight. I'm not drinking a lot at all. 24 ounces to 36 ounces each day of vegetable juice.. I wanted to do only water initially, but this is my first fast in several years so perhaps that wasn't a good idea. I am trying for some speedy weight loss and some major stamina (I've got a very hectic month and some job changes and etc... and wanted to be on my game for those!) So I thought water would be the quickest way to cleanse... But perhaps that wasn't wise. It's day 5 for me... And while I still feel no 'bliss,' I did wake up naturally this morning after only 6 hours of sleep, and got right out of bed with no trouble (I'm normally a wreck in the mornings). I also did drink some senna tea two nights in a row, but it only worked the first night (still waiting for the second to kick in!!)... Would a salt water flush count as a colonic? I have done about four of these in the past two months and am getting used to them and I love the results. I actually did one Sunday morning the first day of my fast. My symptoms are really just hunger and a general feeling of malaise and feeling 'out of sorts.' I will up my juice amount today and see what happens. The one thing I do like is not having to cook - ha! OK thanks again BikeDiva, look forward to your input!!

Today is starting off better than yesterday, so I really want to try and continue the fast. I will up my juices and take a break from the Smooth Move to see if maybe I was detoxing too fast.
One thing I noticed this morning right away is that my tongue is coated WHITE as white could be!! And it is sore?? Is this yeast, or part of the detox? I tried brushing it off, but maybe I need to buy a tongue scraper!!
I didn't get to post my intake for yesterday last night, so I will post yesterday's now, and then post today's later tonight.
96 oz water
16 oz warm water with 3 lemons (maybe I should cut back on the lemons)
16 oz Smooth Move
18 oz Cantaloupe Juice (yummy!!)
32 oz including ice of Decaf. Green Tea
20 oz juice consisting of 4 apples, 1 pear, 1 mango, 3 celery stalks
16 oz Red Raspberry Leaf Herbal Tea

I just want to publicly share that I've adviced Cathy to break her fast via email. It's her choice of course, but I do not feel it's wise for her to continue with these symptoms (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showpost.php?p=589752&postcount=38) of slurred speech and not being able to type herself.
That said, it's her choice, her life, her fast.

Juice FEASTING is your answer... the amount of juice or water doesn't make any difference really with weight release. Your body will release what it wants... and slowing your metabolism with just water isn't really the way to do that.
If you want stamina... get your juices up up UP. The more you take in the more energy you'll have to get things done and to heal and cleanse... your body can only do so much with X amount of energy... so if you give it XX, well then it can do more...

Nice to see ya, bordergirl!
Waking up today, I feel completely peaceful. Not hungry or anxious at all! Beautiful...life is great! :D
Been listening to a lot of Byron Katie (someone in the forum suggested her). She says, speaking about alcoholism, Alcohol always keeps its promise. But that resonated with me for food. SAD eating always keeps its promise; you get numbed, then end up depressed and clogged.
I suppose we could say fasting keeps its promise, too...
Also, she talked about how eating can actually be an assault on ourselves if done compulsively. For some reason, that image of hurting myself by chewing, and at this time healing myself by fasting, has completely resonated. Like, fasting is not about self-denial, but about self-love!!! Gosh, I sound like I could be on Oprah!
Much love my fasting sistas and bros!

If I continue to fast, am I welcome to still post on here, and get the support I need, or should I just discontinue posting?
Thank you for your concern, and advise, I do feel better today.
I think that my hormones were also playing a role in how I was feeling. I am supposed to start this week, and my hormone levels have been way off since October when my kids were in the wreck.
When I had the hormone saliva test a couple of months ago it showed that my estrogen was way too low, and my progesterone was on the high side.
I'm hoping that's the reason I was feeling so bad yesterday.
If I feel like I did yesterday, again, then I will stop immediately, I would never risk my health over trying to prove that I can fast, promise ;)
Thanks again!!

Hi everyone!
Thanks Aleesha for the food mention reminder and editing my previous post. Sorry if I caused any trouble. :(
Here is the end of day 6 for me.
Day 5 went well, went to a great concert with a friend, drank only water in the day, then some light soup and a smoothie in the evening (had to "eat" something or it would have seemed strange). No trouble, my digestion is still shut and I had detox symptoms the morning after, so the cleansing process seems to continue.
Day 6 was great, did some shopping, drank water and a tea and have had a lot of energy. 7
I plan on doing water only until the 15 day mark, then juice (with the awesome juicer I was offered at Christmas by my family). Feel great, the first detox wave is gone and the fast is pretty easy at the moment. The only thing is that feeling of being bored that is getting stronger. But well, tomorrow will be a WEEK of water fast for me, so I guess it's normal to want to taste something else and be bored at drinking water. :p
The good news is that today I bought a pant in the size that is my goal size  !!!!, my skin is clearer on the arms and legs, no pimples appearing on the face (contrary to my 10 day WF last August), so it's great. I'm happy for the weight loss, but most of all, I'm thankful of the work my body is doing for my health. The fast has cured one of my gums that was sensible to hot and cold. I now can wash my teeth and rinse with cold water without that horrible pain. And it's only the part of the iceberg that I can see so...
I'll keep on fasting, it's worth it.
EDIT: @ Cathy, we posted at the same moment. You are the only person that can decide to fast or not. Listen to your body and don't hurt yourself, that's the rule. If you feel you can fast at the moment, do it, but don't take risks. I'm sure you'll be welcome to keep on posting here. Aleesha has always great advice and cares for your health, as we all do.

French, glad to hear you're doing so well! If you're up to it, when you're done post some before & after pix.
Why not, though it would not be exactly pics of my before after fast because I didn't think of taking a picture of me just before the fast. But surely, I have old pics of me before raw, and when seeing me now, I'm not the same person. My family, friends and even at work, they all see with wonder the transformation (but still believe I'm eccentric for being vegan, poor things didn't even notice I was high raw, I'd say 80-90%, though many days I'm 100%). They see the weight loss, but I also see the cured asthma, the energy, the self-confidence, the happiness of doing something good for my health, the earth and the animals!
Maybe I'll post pictures in March, that will be my one year raw vegan anniversary, the beginning of my transformation. It could be a good way to celebrate the good change. Thank you for the support!

Glad you're all well today! Happy happy happy!
I was shocked when I went to clean my juicer tonight. No, not t by 120 V dc, by how clean and shiny the centrifugal strainer basket was when I pulled it out of the sink water to scrub it. One of these items since they're new to my juicing routine-parsley, red cabbage, or mango, really shined up the stainless during the juicing. I didn't have to scrub and about all the prior little bits of haze around the tiny teeth and on the screen of the basket was cleansed away. It looks like it was polished with jeweler's rouge . I imagine that speaks to how cleansing it is for the body, whichever one it was.
Todays juice was parsley, apple cabbage, mango, lemon, carrot. I'd pulled a beet out but forgot it, d'oh.
Have a great evening.

Just a short note.
I have been detoxing (emotionally, work wise, food wise) for about 2 days now. My juices and smoothies have been tasty, but I have not been finishing them (even throwing them away) because I am just not hungry. Which is unusual because I can always drink a good coconut water, juice or GS!
Also, been having crazy energy spurts and lulls. Like for example, I stayed up till 12.30 am watching a Vitamix DVD with my cat. THen I woke up at 5.30 am and could not go back to sleep (I beat the alarm by 2 hours). Why cant have all this frantic energy when I am on deadline?
But today, by 4.30, I needed to head home for a nap.
We are also preparing for a "blizzard" here and I had to get juicing veggies (I am really into tomatoes and onion, and garlic...together in the same bottle).
So, after the sleepiness past (I was in line at the grocery in mob). I have come home and now cant sleep. I have had weird burbs with a fish oil aftertaste, but I havent had any oils today (parsley apple GS, and cantalope ginger juice).
Blah. I wish my cleaning crew would go faster.
My skin (especially my hiradriatus supportiva (sp)..acne inversa) has also been flipping out! But I think that is due to my girl stuff and deadlines. Though I have had a huge nodule on my face that wont come to a head, but wont go away either.

I'll do a bit of research on Juice Feasting, and perhaps start over. As of today, I'm still fasting. But tomorrow I will break it with fruit and vegetables. Thanks Aleesha.

i want to be healthy.
i want to heal from things i don't even know are wrong/not working/dis-ease in my body.
i strive to be the best i can be... cause this is my only body, i can't trade it in... this is it.
so... i fast. i break my fasts and eat for a week or two... and then i fast again. why? cause i love the feeling of fasting. ;)

I'm here :) just had a really busy day, and I need to be heading to bed, because one of the things I wanted to work on during this fast is getting to bed before midnight, and getting up by 7:something I am not a morning person, and I love staying up late, I think it's because the house is quiet, and I can get the things done I would like to do (like the computer) It's hard to do with 4 kids here all the time, and two of them being teenagers.
Thank you for all your kind words, and concern, I know Aleesha only meant well, and I was not offended at all. I'm a very easy going person, and I don't get upset very easy, so everything is fine here, no hurt feelings at all.
Bikediva, I have also been concerned with my blood sugars, that may be something to get checked out. I did buy me one of those monitors last week, but haven't checked it yet, I don't like having to stick myself LOL, but I will check it soon.
MnBordergirl NO, I'm not pregnant  It would have to be a miracle, but that was a good thought, it would make sense. My doctor told me that I may go through the change early, I am only 38, so I hope it doesn't last for years. I have already started having night sweats around that time of the month, so we shall see if going back to raw will help get my hormones back in gear.
Michigan Roman, I agree the SM is strong stuff, and I didn't have any today so hopefully that will help the symptoms. When I drank it yesterday early in the day, it never made me have a bm, and I still have not had one today, so maybe my body doesn't want to listen to the Smooth Move right now.
I had a real busy day today, running errands, and doing a lot here at home.
So at least I'm still standing up :D
Here is what I've had today....
8oz water upon rising
16 oz juice (oranges and lemon)
32 oz including ice of decaf. green tea
22 oz cantaloupe juice
32 oz juice of apples, pears, mango, celery, and ginger
32 oz water
Better get to bed, it's after my curfew

Have you actually lost any weight on your 45 day fast? I really want to remove cellulite...
I can't speak for Aleesh, but i have lost only 3-5 lbs and i have been fasting on and off (I stumble, fall, get back up and start over) since about January.
i lost more weight on raw, faster (about 30 lbs in 5 months).
There may be several reasons for this. When I ate raw I was high veg. While fasting I noticed I have been high fruit and have been taking steps to improve this (I just hate drinkiing things that taste like dirty salads).
My reasons for fasting are diverse and I needed to put them over weight loss for the moment. First of all, I am about 125 lbs overweight. I grew up in a polluted area, ate fish from rivers and lakes that were just a bit downstream from a papermill. Sometimes the fishes had tumors on them that were just "viruses" according to the local DNR and Fish & Wildlife. The fact that I lost 2 classmates to childhood cancer (our class size was only 160 at the time of graduation, you do the math) and have lost 2 baby cousins, a grandmother, and 2 aunts to cancer, all living in the same area, seems to be very telling and correlative. In college, gradschool, and post docing, i was a scientist (Pharmacologist/Toxicologist) in a laboratory and was around noxious chemicals daily. I personally handled radioactivity for 6 hours a day, daily. Athough the stuff was extremely stable, half life of 5,625 years and supposedly would not go through tissue paper, one has to got to wonder. The fact is, I was around toxins daily and actually have the fat stores present to "sink" them in....
When I went high raw, I had the weirdest skin/detox reactions (little pimples all over my chest, breasts, back, and upper arms at the back). They eventually stopped. But my acne inversa still flares up which makes me think there is still some toxic issues somewhere, as I did not have this in my teens or 20s and has been an issue in my 30s.
So, i am going for a "deeper cleaning now" through fasting, juicing, and green smoothies.
The second reason why I choose to fast is that in the past I have been very food orientated and maybe even addicted to food (if you listen to biblically based weight loss programs). I like to read recipes, think about preparing them, make them and enjoy them. However,at some point in raw, I was starting to look forward to "chewing" a bit too much. Sort of like how an alcoholic looks forward to the first drink of the night a bit too much (compared to a non-alcoholic). So, removal of trigger foods (even if they are good raw ones), and fasting has been an important mental liberation for me for keeping control of the addiction, rather than the food controlling me.
Thirdly, fasting saves a ton of time and i am always crunched for time. 1 hour in the morning to make the juices/green smoothies/coconut water for breakfast lunch and supper, including cleanup, is a super gain in time of about 2 hours. The weird lack of needing sleep over the past two days, has given me about 4-6 hours to myself which I ordinarily dont have. I have to say, I am sort of begining to like it, but am afraid I am eventually going to crash and require a week of 12 hour sleeps to make up for it and that this crash may happen at a deadline time that I can ill afford it.
So, in sum. No cellulite lost in the fast. But most reasons are good reasons to fast

That is the strangest thing I've heard in a while!
Bikediva, what is crazy is the expotential increase in the ability to "smell" things that happens literally overnight. I was in the grocery and this one lady stunk so bad (cat pee? urine? I dont know). No one else seemed to notice, but I sure did.
I have walked into my boss's office (a woman) and declared, 'I smell something new!" and looked for the floral arrangement. It turned out to be her shampoo and I smelled it from across the room.
I was nuzzling a neighbor (aka Neighborlicious), and could smell parmescan cheese in his goatee!. Oh, he had ate parmescan cheese for dinner alright, two days earlier...he insisted that he had showered between now and then (at least twice) but was so freaked out he shaved it all off.
Then, there is getting to an elevator and knowing who has been there before (like the kid down the hall...Neighborlicious).
Seriously,I am slowly becoming part bloodhound through fasting.

Hope you feel better soon, Aleesha, sore throats are no fun :(
I have a question, I had read somewhere that when your drinking fresh juice, that you should consume 8 oz at at time, then wait 30min to an hour before drinking 8 more oz. Does anyone follow this? I know there are no rules in fasting ;) but, I want to make sure I'm not drinking too much at one time.
When I make my juice, say I make 32 oz. I have no problem drinking all that at once, in fact I have to make myself stop and chew/swish my juice so I don't drink it too fast. I made a yummy juice with apple, pear, cucumber, celery.

Yeah, day 6 for me, may not seem like a lot to some, but for me this is HUGE!!
Yesterday I had...
72 oz water
40 oz juice made with apples, pear, cucumber, celery
32 oz decaf green tea
I had to go grocery shopping for the rest of the family, and was excited to drop by the juice bar to grab me a big carrot juice to drink while I shopped. They made me one with carrot, apple, and celery.
When I took off the lid to sip it, it was like carrot soup pulp :p
I wouldn't have been able to drink it if I had to, unless I had a spoon.
So I took it back and asked if he could make me another one, but then told me that his juicer must be messed up, because it had done that a couple of times that day :(
I walked over to the bottle juices, but nothing looked pure enough, had added stuff in the juice, except one bottle of carrot juice, the ingredients said Organic Carrot Juice, so I was going to get that, but it was 6.oo
So I just did my shopping and had some water when I got home. I survived though ;)
All I know is that my body is WIDE awake at night, not falling asleep till almost 3:00, even though I think I'm wiped out. My mind is going in 400 directions, and seems to be thinking about deep stuff. I'm fine during the day, but at night I wish I could make my thinking cap turn off!!
I guess I need to try some celery/apple juice tonight before bed.
I'll post later what I've had today,

True. But pls be careful. As you get older, it's like "Woohoo! I feel great! Hardly slept in 3 days." Then WHAM! Your immune system takes a big hit, your resistance goes down, and those little microbial fungi monsters attach to your ugly-nasties (toxins) and down you go to the sick bed.

Old Mr. Toxin had troubles that were odd
He had a yellow cat, was livin' in her bod;
He tried and he tried to make his problem stay,
No leaving in a BM goin' far, far away.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought she was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
The man around the corner swore she'd quit the fast on sight,
He loaded up his shotgun with chocolatey delight;
He waited and he waited for the cat to come around,
A SAD and tired man is all they found.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought she was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
Then came a little boy with a donut in his coat,
Told him for to take the cat up the river in a boat;
They showed the cat the donut, it must have weighed a pound
Now they're looking for the boy and the donut that he downed.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Confession:
I caved and chewed last night. It was a conscious choice after having a problem which included some "flying" ala ER's superhero style. I am ready to resume juicing today though. Maybe I'll do the opposite of a one day a week fasting schedule. I'll juice fast all week and chew fruit one day- or hit up Aleesha's water tanker all week and juice fruit one day. I'll be an anto(nym)faster; would a 'slower' be the term then? If that's all right with you all, as long as I don't discuss the eating day.
I was not going for having fasted for all of Fastuary but it would still be an accomplishment for me to do it this way. Then again things could change by next week, just as they did in Aleesha's case (happy about that for you 'n daughter, and it was my prayer since you mentioned it even). I might decide to stay juice or even water fasting. It's open ended from here. Sorry to ramble, I'm thinking out loud.

Aleesha Sattva
02-07-2010, 12:29 PM
i actually have wanted to discuss this for awhile now so i'm going to do my own ramble.
fasting is.
it doesn't have to follow any rules unless you want it to.
if you feel the overwhelming desire to eat and you do... own it and move forward.
no guilt. only choices.
another time you may feel the overwhelming desire to eat and you don't. own that and move forward.
whatever you do on a fast... is your journey.
is there perfection? i don't think so. i haven't found it.
i have found a great lovely wonderful journey for my Self though... it works for me. and that's all that matters.
i hope you all are able to find your journey filled with love and support... regardless of your choices and how you decide to do this.
cause really... one hour of conscious fasting is healing.
two hours isn't better... it's just a different journey.
10 days isn't better than 30. it's just a different journey!
does this post make me right... not at all... just my opinion.

Welcome back Aleesha! Thats' great!
Tonight is the end of day 9, and I can't explain why, but I feel happy, I feel just great, which is quite unusual cause I have no particular reason to be happy, I'm just happy, that's it.
Yesterday had water and one glass of juice, today was water only with 3 tbs of agave syrup (just love the taste of it with my herbal tea).
This is the third day that I have lost no weight, but my body fat percentage still goes down. I suppose my body is keeping water at the moment.
Day 10 tomorrow, will see tomorrow night if I keep water fasting until the 15th or if I switch to juice fast.
Concerning fasting rules, I can't agree more Aleesha. fasting is a personal experience, there is no "fasting police". It's better trying not to be "perfect" and not blaming ourselves if we drink juice on a water fast etc... The fast has to adapt to the person, not the contrary.

Just made a lovely persimmon, watermelon, pineapple blend... 2 persimmons with 1/2 a small watermelon and 2 spear of pineapple made 2 litres of juice! So I have some for later as well.
The persimmon is thick like mango so best to juice it with something watery... like watermelon. ;)

what is it I REALLY want if I'm not hungry for food? AND, how can I get it?

It's better trying not to be "perfect" and not blaming ourselves if we drink juice on a water fast etc... The fast has to adapt to the person, not the contrary.
So true, and that approach keeps the calm, and the spiritual and emotional rhythm of the fast going, rather than draining you from the worry. I told myself yesterday as I pondered what happened, "Don't try and figure it out, just figure out what to do next".
Aleesha Sattva

exactly. what we've chosen in this moment doesn't have to imprint on our next moment. we can - instead - choose something else.
rev, nice to hear you've had such a great week. keep it up!!!

I should have listened to your advice, Aleesha.
Yesterday, late afternoon, I had these same symptoms, but a lot worse, and I had other symptoms as well. My husband thought he was going to have to call 911, I was very disoriented, so I don't remember much. I was breaking out in a cold sweat, and was almost passed out.
Once they got me to eat a piece of fruit, I was a little more with it, but had to do a smoothie as well.
I'm still not feeling very well today, even though I have broke my fast and am eating again. I did take my blood sugar levels and yesterday they were in the 50's, they still have not been able to get up in the 100's yet.
My husband wants me to see my doctor this week, to see what could be going on.
I'm sad about breaking the fast, and disappointed in my body that it could not even make it 10 days. But I know it is not my fault, something has to be going on with my health, and not something I can control, but I sure wish I knew what it was, without having to go to the doctor. Yesterday was very scary for my family, and myself, so I know I can't force myself to fast, and put my life in danger.
Even though I know fasting is not dangerous, and is very healing, unless you have something underlying, that has not been diagnosed, which seems to be my case.
I wish all of you the best, and I'm so proud of all of you!!! (saying this with tears in my eyes)
Love,
Cathy

@ Cathy, I'm sad for you and I wish you well! Your body was not prepared for a long fast. Take your time, rest and heal yourself, then, much later, try a short fast (48h) once or twice a month before trying to do 10 days. Take care and give us news!

Cathy, the doctor may not know either. But get all the info you can.
It is not unusual to encounter major barriers with fasting.
Do you have any known conditions with blood sugar?
Have you fasted much before?
More info is needed to isolate the issue. But surely there is an answer.
Many years ago, I kept running into a brick wall. By 4-5 days, I would get too lethargic and spacey to function - a real problem on the job - and always had to quit my fast. Then it dawned on me, I was drinking lotsa fruit juices, which acted like an aggressive detergent in the system.. cutting up toxins then sending them too the bloodstream. So I slowed down the detox process with veggie juices and herb teas. That changed everything.

I'm new to here and to fasting, but I'm on day three of my juice fast and feeling great.

fruits certainly do speed up your detox... that's for sure. i think it's a personal thing cause i fast primarily on fruits - adding greens very very sparingly and i don't have any crashes. i was also diabetic before i went raw - just to let you all know.
i do resonate with fruit juices and rarely resonate with green juices. although i did have three days where all i wanted was green juices recently... so who knows, perhaps i'll change to greens some day. ;
welcome again airchrist.

That means your body is in a better place. You don't have many toxins - comparatively speaking - and you're younger. Nowadays, I can fast of fruit juice indefinitely. But 9 years ago, I couldn't. As for Cathy, it could be an entirely unrelated matter, like blood pressure (which I doubt) or something else. Much more info is needed, like meds history if any, medical history, and so forth. Surely there is an answer. ;)

Oh, sorry about that.
9-1 is a borrow from a the so-called 80-10-10 diet (which we do not endorse here. ;))
25 + 7means 25 days fasted in January, 7 in Fastuary. :p
While we're on math..
ER, this month is a mere 28 days, so you'll have to MARCH into the next month to get your 30 days! *giggling*
You're right. I must've been thinking of April, June or September.
So then.. do I hear 28? :p
And when we get to March, it's time to really start marching. :D
John Paul Jones struggled with the 44-gun Royal Navy frigate Serapis, and although his own vessel was burning and sinking, Jones would not accept the British demand for surrender, replying..
"I have not yet begun to fight!"
More than three hours later, Serapis surrendered and Jones took command.

Fasting CAN be dangerous if you are diabetic or hypoglycemic.
Please see your doctor and get better!

I had the most delicious big, soft, yellow grapefruits, which made such a perfect juice.. even better than some of the orange juices I've had lately. Oranges are sweeter - maybe too sweet. The grapefruit juice was just so wholesome & righteous tasting! Downright righteous. :p :p

listen to the juice i just made... it made 5 litres of juice in total...
1 over ripe persimmon
1 orange beet
2 celery stalks
2 big chunks of ginger
1 small watermelon (the size of your head)
wow is this EVER good. you would think the beet would barely be there, but it's really nice, especially with the ginger. i love beet and ginger together.

relaxing day with my student, discussing meditation and tarot cards. i have a reiki session scheduled for later this week that i'm looking forward to. other than that... my daily meditation and walks in the sun are keeping me happy.

i did a late grocery run and came back with 50 pounds of produce. i guess you can do worse than $35 for 50 pounds of produce but i can't wait until i can get more produce local. i found watermelons, so looking forward to juicing one up tomorrow. i never mix watermelon because it's so good on its own (or with a little mint or strawberry) but i'm feeling adventurous. maybe watermelon-cantaloupe? anyone tried that?

From my couple of work outs, I can tell you that it's really hard to do on just juice. It could be because I just started my juice fast, but it's high intensity, and I almost passed out. I actually needed the food.
I'm going to try to continue to do just juice and water, and see if I don't get all the extra energy that everyone always talks about.

i'd say it's from the food you are eating.
lots of people juice fast and exercise. but... when you are new to fasting, working out can be difficult. you kinda need to choose... use your energy for healing or for working out...
i know though that one long time faster does a huge workout daily... and she has no problem keeping up on juice alone.
when i was fasting last year and doing 2 hours of yoga and rebounding for about 30-45 minutes a day... i had no problems but yoga is lower intensity than what you are doing.

I have two mandatory training sessions a week. On those days, I'll probably eat a piece of fruit before I go to the gym. Although, I'd love to get by just on juice. The rest of the next couple of weeks, I plan on relaxing in my house and juicing.
Also, is a 14 day fast too long for someone who hasn't fasted before?
Aleesha Sattva
02-09-2010, 01:45 AM
na newcomers to fasting do the 92 day juice feast... so it's not a problem at all doing 14 days.
instead of food... why not increasing your juice on that day? when you eat, your body uses it's fuel for digestion, why not give your body more juice and let it use the fuel for working out?
Aleesha Sattva
02-09-2010, 01:47 AM
chances are very very very very good that if you eat food while fasting, you will stop fasting. once you start the digestion process... it's hard to keep going.
perhaps you should wait till you are done this and then fast? (or increase your juice as i suggested)
whatever you choose... it's your choice.

yup i just double checked, definitely one gallon. yesterday i had a hard time getting it in, but i only had water and tea up to 1 pm. today i've already had a quart and starting to feel ready for a second. i'm sure it will vary from day to day, last time i remember sometimes having 'leftovers' or having to crack an emergency coconut or two for a 5th or 6th quart.
made 1/2 gallon of watermelon (had a time crunch so i decided to keep it simple - gonna try watermelon/cantaloupe tomorrow) and 1/2 gallon of celery/carrot/apple/collard/beet. i forgot that i really dislike collards in juice... chard, too, unfortunately. i'm looking forward to experimenting with spring greens this year; my last longish feast was during the summer so i missed some of the spring stuff. i've been using both the vitamix and the juicer to prepare my juices, have also been way more interested in carrot juice than previous feasts/fasts.
airchrist, i would say definitely drink more juice on training days - fruit juice before, veg juice after is what my intuition says and what i plan to do. i have training on wed and sat. i may go thurs instead of wed if i'm not feeling up to it yet. i hope to be doing 3 or 4 days per week near the middle/end of this. according to the juice feasting protocol, strength training is best to start after day 60 so it will be interesting to see how that goes.
my lower back is killing me today. one of my big reasons for juicing right now is to speed the healing of an injury there. it feels worse than it has in a while, but i'm hoping that is a good sign? sometimes we feel worse before we feel better.

Thank you, beckx for the warm welcome. Bikediva, don't resist you starting many times- it is all right. It is a journey. And sometimes you just need to catch a right wave and then you can go on forever. That's why I don't make up my mind in advance how long I will fast. Fasting like anything else is body and mind union game.
I slept really good last night, even though I was so cold before I put on wool socks and two sweaters and two blankets(I do not like the heater, especially at night). We slept half an hour loger than usually-my son is the one who determines how long we will sleep.
Today I already can feel little electricity in my body working on cleansing. I don't feel like drinking juice in the morning, so I just drink water with lemon and honey.

Ah you too! I had low blood pressure in my previous 10 days fast in August, but since the beginning of this one, nothing except once the 3rd day. Weird.
This evening is the evening of day 11 for me. Water only today, and maybe an herbal tea before going to bed. I feel great, still detoxing through my skin, but coconut oil seem to ease the skin on my face so, I'll wait and see.
I have decided to keep on water fasting until my day 15. Then I'll have to switch to juice - I have a restaurant planned the 19th for the birthday of a friend, though I'll certainly only drink juice there and avoid food, I want to be sure not to harm myself if I get to eat some raw veggie. After the 19th, juice again until the end of the month. That would be a 30 day fast.
Can't wait for the end of the month, in march is my birthday and my raw vegan one year anniversary, I think that this fast is a good way to celebrate and get once and for all my old SAD lifestyle out!

if you eat something at that event... make sure it's only cucumber or avocado... nothing like carrot sticks or broc... that's waaaaay too hard on your bod.
just cleaned and transferred the fridges... feels GREAT today off to yoga.

So, I just shopped for my first batch of produce for JUICING! I got:
- 5 lbs pink grapefruit
- 10 lbs apples fuji and granny smith
- 6 cucumbers
- 2 heads of lettuce (organic)
- 1 cantaloupe
- 4 huge mangoes
...All for $25!!! This should do me for a few days! I also have carrots, ginger, celery, lemon and lime, bananas, kale, and chlorella powder. Any suggestions?

yup, go get some parsley and make a 60/40 blend of granny smith apple and parsley with a bite of ginger in it. mmmm so good!
make sure you juice your mangos with apple or it'll be way too thick for your fast.

I had work last night, so I got home and slept until 4:30pm. Yikes!
I juiced all my remaining produce before it went bad. It's chilling in the fridge, and I'm going to pound it soon. Is it weird that I'm not excited about eating/drinking anything at all?
I did lose 3.5 pounds(mostly water) in the past 36 hours though, so that's a plus.

is it day 3 already? i had a good day, only wanted water and tea until about 5 pm, then i had a quart of grapefruit juice with spirulina. it was so good and really resonated with my body. i've never enjoyed spirulina like i did today.
back's feeling a little better. did some yoga tonight, just maybe 1/2 hour.

i've had pretty much nothing today and i am in the best mood ever! got offered two jobs in the last two days... and i wasn't looking for a job.
amaZZZing how the universe answers us before we ask the question!
i consumed 1 litre of coconut water today... that's it, that's all. oh and some water. nothing else.
probably won't have anything tonight unless i get chilled... then i may have some tea.

Doing my first juice fast. Started today and been feeling pretty good all day. I'm not sure how long I'm going to do it, maybe two or three days for the first time? I'm surprised that I wasnt "starving" today. Guess it's because Ive been on a raw diet for approx 2 months and my body has adjusted.
Anyhow, happy today and feeling good,

welcome jeff!!! nice to have you in the fasting convoy.
i just counted and tomorrow is day 50 for me. very cool... i'm in such a peace-filled state. nothing is bothering me although... at the same time i'm grumpy and short fused LOL don't know if that makes sense to anyone... i'm soooo at peace as long as you don't mess with da mama *giggling*
fortunately for me... my family is super supportive and understands when i'm having a grumpy moment.
i love rocks... i'm really into them... and today i picked up a few more 'wands' for healing. (chevron amethyst, smokey quartz and a crystal wand) i'm soooo resonating with rocks during this fast. i'm meditating and doing Reiki with them daily. ahhhh the bliss of it all!
i also picked up a piece of flourite and my hands got sooooo warm and sweaty immediately. since it assists with circulation, i'm going to keep it with me to warm me while fasting!
i ended up having another litre of coconut water. felt a headache coming on and knew it was a "need nutrition" headache and not a detox headache and i was right. a nice bath with some himilayan sea salts added and a litre of coconut water and this mama is feeling great again.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh can you feel my bliss?

Congratulations, Aleesha! I am joining your party, even though for me it is just day 4. I am celebrating it though, because last night I felt a little blaah, and was tempted to break my fast. I realized though it was emotional thing, not my body's wish, so I wrote some of my pages(just write anything that comes to head -at least 3 pages), and made myself grapefruit juice - and now I feel good, even though a bit lower energy. So I am celebrating my 4th day and my wisdom.
What juice are we having for the party?

The beginning of day 14, tomorrow will be my last day of water fast, then, I'll begin juicing. Can't wait, I bought many fresh fruits and greens today, and it's strange suddenly see my kitchen full of food again. I even bought coconuts, I will have to figure a way to open them without a hammer.
I'm glad I've made it this far.
Happy day 50 Aleesha!

Just had an amazing re-attunement and Reiki session... ahhh bliss I tell ya. Then I made myself a weird combo of stuff... purple cabbage, ginger, persimmon, apples, celery, fennel and beet. oh i forgot... and pineapple. it's super yummy... oddly enough LOL

Oh, and I almost forgot...

I have given my fast a rest for a couple of days, after one sleepless night.
But I am coming right back. Tomorrow is payday and time to go get lotsa fastins' for juicing. I am looking forward to my transition into raw veggie juices. I have been mostly doing fruit juices and have noticed that the "looks like you lost weight" comments have NOT been coming.. even though my belt has tightened 3 notches since starting this new year. In MY mind, I'm certainly losing, feeling more energetic, more active & having this wonderful fasting experience like my own tempest in a teapot, and all the while no one noticing. When you start losing, they will tell you - you won't have to tell them. And I'm guessing that the high sugar content of fruit juices is holding me back. Some fruit juice is fine, but mostly veggie & herb tea, plus more brisk walking will make the difference.
It seems the more I fast, and the longer I fast, the more disappointed I feel when I stop.. like I'm missing my life call or something special that was meant to be.. Has anyone else felt this?
Aleesha Sattva
02-11-2010, 10:13 PM
*holds up hand* me me me me me. Hence why I fast so much!
Perhaps that is true... the fruit juices stopping us from releasing weight. I know I don't release much when I fast... but I simply do not resonate with green juices so... oh well. I'm here to fast and be happy doing it, not to be miserable and thin LOL
So there's your answer freelive...
And yup, feels the same. Every day just blends into the next and next thing you know... it's day fifty!
I got a gorgeous care package in the mail today... filled with yogi teas!!! Sooooooooooo many varieties I can't even begin to name them all. This fasting mama is SET now!!! (((thank you to my yogi tea angel)))

yay freelive, i'm on day 4 too. i think the big difference between short fasts and the long fast i did was the euphoria that sets in later on, and starting to trust your body more throughout the process... and the longer fasts do definitely feel more disappointing to end.
i just had a lot of water and a quart of grapefruit juice with spirulina today. i felt so tired this morning and then ended up taking a nap earlier tonight, but not feeling weak or dizzy. i had a really, really difficult night emotionally yesterday... but i've had a lot of insights today into how i can support myself in feeling more fulfilled at work while i look for another job and took some really positive steps. i'm looking forward to many more insights over the coming weeks.

i'm sorry i think i mislead you... what i meant was day four and day fifty are the same... cause on both you are drinking yummy juices and choosing to stay fasting. beckx is totally right... you do get into the 'zone'... the euphoric place that extended fasting brings. i got into that place very early on in this fast... and so it seems like i've been there forever. kinda makes me forget that there is a non-zone place out there.
so i'm sorry for misleading you...
beckx... insights are great... i wish you many many more!!!

@ Aleesha, yup, I've been saving up for 3 months in the Philippines to fast for like a year. I leave March 1. So instead of counting up the days like all y'all, I'm counting down!!! Mind if I join in? I peruse this thread frequently just out of curiosity (mildly traumatised from previous struggles with fasting :p ) so am a bit surprised to find myself here now...but there is NO doubt this bod needs some cleaning from the inside, that is for sure. I didn't really plan on fasting, nor starting today, but it is getting dark, and I seem to have settled into it through some sort of odd auto-pilot. Hunger is not an issue - and for me this is a biggie - and I already feel better in my mind. Yeah yeah, it is only one day, I know!
Have no idea how long I will be here but am looking forward to hangin' out :D

az, i find it completely mind blowing how, once i make the conscious decision to fast, my body just seems to jump on board immediately! and yes... please join us (((hugs)))
bike, i didn't do those days in a row... 84 days is my longest fast. there are others who have gone much longer. i believe 152 days was one member fast! amazing eh?
so are you going to fast for the entire time? are you just going to the country or to a fasting retreat? do tell... inquiring minds want to know :D
i work today... so i'll be taking lots of juices with me. i decided to weigh myself this morning and i'm a mere 3.8 pounds from my mini goal... so this pleases me greatly. this means i've released about 20 pounds since i started just before christmas.
oh and i had a poop this morning!!! nothing fancy... just a poop. but it is OUT instead of in which makes me haPPPPPPy!
i'm about to sip on some lovely "love tea" (that's what i call yogi tea, cause it was sent to me with love!) - i think it's the chia tea i grabbed... sure smells goooood!

Sooo excited you're interested! I'm going primarily to fast and heal. The retreat is on an island, complete with infrared sauna, hot tub, colonics, fresh coconuts from the tree and cleansing supplements. Yeh, I'm just a little spoiled...I'll be doing mostly a supervised water fast for 90 days, while swimming in the warm ocean, doing daily yoga and meditation, and getting healing massages and treatments for and hour and a half a day.
You could say I don't tolerate discomfort as well as you, Aleesha! I leave Feb 28 and I'll be in the Philippines on March 1. So that plus the pre-fasting I'm doing now should take me over 100! If it all works out.

:) So we are fast mates for this fast! :D
I noticed that it is so much easier to memorize guitar pieces that I learn, when I am fasting. I am a little bit afraid to break a long term fast, because my stomach starts rebelling then, but this time I have digestive enzymes ready. And I don't have to think about it yet.
When does your euphoria set in usually?

i had another great fasting day. normally when i babysit it's so hard to not eat. the kids eat constantly...
but for some reason, it's been so easy for me lately. didn't even bother me to sit in my fav restaurant and watch the kids eat.

I'm on day six of my juice fast, and am feeling insanely good. I've been sleeping great, haven't been hungry, and have been able to continue working out.
I have two confessions/questions:
- I was feeling so sick the other night and ate two tablespoons of PB&J minus the J. Sorry for talking about food, but I need to know. I know this can ruin the fast because it gets my digestive system working, but it happened. Did I ruin my fast?
- The last two days I've been working(5pm-6am), and haven't been able to get to the store/juice. I stopped at Outpost and grabbed a few Odwella smoothies and a couple Izze juices. Even though they don't have any chemicals/addatives, should I not be having those on occasion?
I know the rules to fasting, but I'm embracing the "make it yours" part. I just don't want to over embrace it. On the plus side, I've lost 10lbs in the past 5 days.
Congrats to everyone that's still doing it right!

airchrist, if it were me i would avoid nuts completely and maybe have a smoothie if you feel sick again so as not to shut down cleansing. but really its your journey and if you're getting what you need out of it and not feeling sick afterwards, who cares? no need to confess anything...

go girl! :) haha, i've been rustling a lot of feathers lately.
i've been wrestling with rationalizing my way out of a long fast... you know, "this restaurant i like is closing, maybe i could just eat once and then start again." and the truth is i probably could, but is it that important? and what would i do to my body if i broke my fast with dinner out? and do i really want to make breaking fasts badly a habit? nope. so i'm pushing through. still not getting a full gallon in, though. i had some miso broth tonight and then got super bloated... probably won't be doing that again. oh well, trial and error.
