View Full Version : TIRED of raw? :(

People, i really need emotional support :(((((((
I've been on a raw journey over 2 years- i've been so hyped and excited about it. i got certified as a raw chef, went to a raw institute in Atlanta, etc etc.. i've been making food for someone privately, i've been doing SO MUCH that all my life became about FOOD and teaching others about it.
It's exciting and great, but i feel like i've lost the balance. I did so much that now i am almost sick of it :( i hate spending time in the kitchen making from scratch every single thing i can eat, i am exhausted about thinking up new recipes and thinking about FOOD in general. ahhh it just feels like it's so much work all of a sudden.
HELP. i'm totally unmotivated to go on- i don't feel like teaching any raw classes or making food for anyone, i don't even want to eat raw myself sometimes. It's almost easy to eat cooked and numb down your feelings..
sniff sniff- can someone relate?

I can sure relate to this. It's tough sometimes, sometimes it's easy. When it gets tough - I try to remember that it won't last and just weather the storm.

i go through phases like that... of course i just fast when i'm feeling the "don't wanna think about food" phase.
how about making things more simple? just eat an apple. grab a head of lettuce and eat it as is. no fancy salad... just chew on some greens?

As Aleesha said, just remember that eating raw doesn't have to be complex. We only choose to make it complex because we love to experiment. If you want to simplify things, eat mono!
By the way I see you're from Goshen, Mishawaka resident right here.
Its sounds to me as though you've made a career from something you really love and enjoy, and now its become a daily job maybe? Perhaps a vacation or some other type of retreat might be in order if you can swing it.

Yes this seems to be like a phase of some sort. O over-rawed myself...:(
I'm hoping this passes- a "vacation" of some sort WOULD be good. Thanks for your answers
DopeRawAbundance, HELLO!!! We have people from Mishawaka coming to our monthly potlucks all the time, actually :)
I'm already feeling a bit more excited:rolleyes:

I can relate, I've gone through phases where I'll think it would be easier just to eat anything and not worry about it. But if I actually do that, then all my (little) health problems come back and I'm motivated to jump on the bandwagon again. :)
It's also winter and winter is a harder time to be raw because there are no watermelon.

It's easy to get burnt out when any single thing becomes the focus of our entire lives. Most people are blessed with multiple skills and passions -- and when you devote all your time to only one, it becomes like you said: imbalanced. Then you start wanting to revolt against the thing you've spent all your time on, which has become a chore/obligation rather than something you do for enjoyment.
What other things are you inspired to do? Are there any hobbies or non-food projects you've been neglecting? Reconnect with other activities you love. If you work with food for a living, you probably can't just drop that (gotta pay the bills, right? :D) but you can certainly take the focus off of food in your private life by simplifying. It's absolutely not necessary to 'uncook' every day -- the simplicity of raw is what makes it so beautiful! Grab some fruit, throw together a five-minute salad, whatever -- ditch the recipes for a while and just eat without so much planning and kitchen prep. Making recipes for every meal would be enough to burn most people out after a while, I think.

You've got the "two year itch". ;) I read about it somewhere. I have not had it yet, I expect it may happen to me in the next few months. I am looking forward to it as a rite of passage to the next stage of rawness.
You already have some great advice posted here. Hang on! I think it will pass sooner and easier if you stay raw.
Best raw wishes to you! :)

That really speaks to me! Ehh.. and i love all the "make it easy" advice. it's just that i have to prepare dehydrated meals for someone twice a week. I'm not really complaining because it helps money-wise and it does push me to explore new recipes.. besides i don't want to lose that person as a client. :)
It's a great idea to create another passion or focus on another skill. I started taking zumba classes and am loving it- trying to figure out how to make more of it :)
RawKnitster- what's a 2 year itch!?!?
rawmiss- that is exactly what happens to me from time to time :)

Have you ever heard of the "seven-year itch"? I'm dating myself here, there is a Marilyn Monroe movie by the same name. It refers to a time in a marriage when one might get the urge to be unfaithful.
I remember reading in a raw book about bumps in the raw road at the 2 year and 7 year mark. Sorry, I've read so many raw books over the past 5 years I can't remember which one it was. I can't even say there is any validity to it, but it intrigued me. I thought about it again after reading posts by RawHeaven. She had a bump in the road at the two year mark. You might want to look up her posts.
I like the idea of a vacation, preferably with lots of fruit available. If not that, how about a trip to a raw restaurant. Let someone else do the uncooking.

if you're able to take a short trip/break where they are waiting you..do it. You may need a break & be taken care of. It's the same being a Mom..wouldn't change but I sure would like someone to take of me once in a while-thankfully she does & it makes it so nice.

I like this suggestion... Also, something I do...try a new recipe!!! Alissa has some GREAT ones in her book and there is a wonderful Recipe Section right here on this site! Sometimes I just get bored with using the same recipes...especially if I'm teaching them too...

Raw can be really, really easy. I have been raw since Aug 1, 07 and I havn't made a recipe yet unless you count putting two different foods into the blender at the same time a recipe. My typical meals usually consist of a single food like grapes pulled from a bunch until I'm satisfied. Try going on an easy simple raw vacation for awhile. Everydays a picnic. :)

Wow! EZRider...I wish I could do that all of the time! What an inspiration you are!!! That's exactly what Alissa says RAW should be!!!
But, having to prepare/occasionally cook for my family just kills that for me. Sometimes I can be really simply RAW...especially coming off of a fast, but I actually really enjoy making Alissa's RAW Gormet Dishes. It keeps me from getting too bored with RAW...with is really funny cuz this thread is about the opposite of that!!!
But, if I lived alone, I'd probably eat like EZRider...

Read the above a couple of times over. Read it with a fox. Ok, now that you're through with that, read it in a box. Be sure to read it next time you have smallpox. Or perhaps next time you listen to 'Pac.
You put it excellently, Denise. I would try to add my own input but it would only detract from what you said. Let's just say I learned the same thing myself recently.

Life is much bigger than foods or physical health. We eat to live, not live to eat. I think life has to be devoted to a much higher cause than eating raw (or helping others eating raw) in order to be satisfying.

you always make me giggle DopeRaw :D
I'm kinda in the same boat as the OP, but for different reasons. I get so sick of having to think about food because of all my allergies. I soooooooo wish I could just grab an apple or some grapes and be done with it, but my body won't allow such simplicity... So I feel your pain and the frustration of having to focus so much attention on food!

I can feel that i am going to heaven by eating a red sweet pepper as a lunch,lol... Yes, focus on other activity and eat more simple for now. Do you do Green smoothie yet, if not, this is one of those fast meal that nourish you in no time.
Something else to movitivate you with raw food, on Dr. Oz, there was a discussion where they prove that calorie restriction will promote your vitallity longer. Such eating 30% less calorie. On raw food, you literally eat less because the nutrient content is so much richer. Stick with raw food, it keeps you young.
I got that phase too, but if you stick with raw, it will pay off big time. Cook food healthy or not, isn't worth it. As soon you eat any cook food, your body needs to use more energy to digest that and you miss out on the nutrients and enzymes.
Hope you feel well soon and discover a great passion

* if youre already doing raw meal prep for someone, can you double the recipes and make enough for yourself? this would eliminate the extra meal prep time for you a few days a week...
