Terrible cough with Phlegm :-( Help ME!!!

My whole family has a terrible smoker's cough (just no smoking though) and lots of phelgm. Is there a natural way to get at this?? I hate to go to the Dr and get another antibiotic.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

what sort of a diet do they eat? i know that milk, soy, and fried foods can make one phlegmy. if they're raw maybe its just a detox ?
