So is it really necessary to add water to a smoothie? i normally add 8oz. per. so when i make my big batch to take to work i add 24 oz. of water! Do you guys add a lot of water to your smoothies? I was never TOLD to do this, i just was like ok, dump in water!
Gracias
Matt

I don't know what the guys are doing but, I add enough fluid to mine to make it palatable... could be oj, nut/seed mylk, apple juice or water.

I only add about 6-8 ounces to apple, stalk celery, couple inches of cuc, 4 cups spinach, some freshly squeezed lemon and orange juice (which would be about a cup of liquid) some cinnamon and some honey. So about 1-1/2 cups liquid to about 6 cups greens. Its pretty thick:D
I love opening up a young Thai coconut and dumping its water in. Then, when I'm all finished, sometimes I'll add more filtered water to thin it because I don't like it super thick.
It just depends on what's going in the GS that day and how much frozen fruit's in there. *Ü*

I usually put in a couple of ice cubes and then enough water to just cover the horizontal blades.
I like thick smoothies.

Lately, I prefer not to add water. It feels wrong.
I blend a watery fruit, usually citrus or cucumber, then add greens until it is thick. If it is too thick I add fresh squeezed orange juice, or a few ounces of water, or add nothing else except a spoon. :)

*note to self* if i want margoss to stay, don't add water... if i want her to leave... add water.

I add water because I do NOT like mine thick. Sometimes I'll add juice though instead. I don't add enough to make it watery, just so it doesn't come out thick like an ice-cream milkshake. Do most people add ice too? I used to add ice because for some reason I thought it was necessary, but it was just making my smoothies bigger so I quit.

There are no rules, all of the above are great, depending on the desired flavor. I use water if no fresh juice is available of to thin out the smoothie. I also use apple or orange juice or coconut water.

Ha, ha Aleesha :D
I make one without water, it's more like "Warm Guacamole With Vegetables".
A few stalks of celery
1 small beet root
1 tomato
Greens
Wash, cut and put in the food processor and then soak in warm water so they warm-up from being in the fridge.
Pour out the water and add
Lime/Lemon juice
1 avocado (an avocado makes a huge different in flavor and texure)
any seasonings you want
Process until smooth, it will be thick enough to eat with a spoon and the fact that it's warm makes it very soup-like.

I tend to freeze my fruits and sometimes my greens from my garden (well, and my banana too...I buy alot in bulk!) so I add water so my blender will work, lol. But I also like my smoothies 'milkshake' consistancy, so its usually only enough to cover whatever else I threw in there. Course, I am also notorious for destroying blenders so don't go by my rules, lol...

I only add water if I can't get it to blend, and then only as much as necessary. I hate the taste of green smoothies, so I prefer to have them in smaller volume. If I want more fluid, I'll drink something after.

Many do, I don't; never have and see no reason to.

I always have frozen berries in mine so it's always ice cold. I can't drink a warm smoothie!

I use about 6-9 ice cubes, no water, depending on size of smoothie....
use the tamper to shove the ice into the blades and it gets liquefied very quickly. In the summer the smoothie was getting too hot, so I switched over to the ice cubes....really need the tamper to shove them in though with no water.

green smoothies were making me feel sick. i always added water, to make it blend. i tried doing it with juicier fruits added instead of water and the ones that way didnt make me feel sick. go figure. i mean, its just water, so i dunno, but thats my experience.

I think that adding a liquid reduces the oxidation so it should be done if you are not drinking the entire thing immediately.
