I bought a whole bunch of oranges and grapefruit to go on a citrus diet for a few days -but it hurt my teeth after two days- silly me!
I'm better now but I still have a bunch left!
Would juicing them with apples, celery, parsley and carrots (which is all I have on hand at the moment, and I'm broke!) blends be easy enough on the teeth?

Did you dilute the juice. Maybe that would help. It is recomended.

Fruits must be totally ripe to be alkaline forming in the body.

Sport is correct, when doing a citrus fast only (actually never heard of one) you must mix the juice with water about 1 to 1.

I've always heard of a juice fast, as being fruits and veggies combined.

Pesonally I'm not big into fasting, I feel our body's need the fiber in the fruits.

Sport-

No I just ate the citrus whole. I didn't really intend to go on a mono diet- it's just that - that's what was on sale and I couldn't afford anything else.

Since then I got a few more groceries - but I want to somehow use the citrus because I am very short on food.

I thought juicing it with something would cut out the effect it had on my teeth.

I've been raw for 5 years and I've never had trouble w/ citrus before - but I guess that's because I've never eaten it by itself for so long. Big mistake for me anyway! :p

A while back my collor bone started hurting -- a very knowing friend (Dr. Flora) told me to quit eating citrus. I did -- the pain went away. So maybe the same is true with your teeth. I wonder if has has something to do with pulling the calcium out of your teeth. ??? Also wonder if we upped our calcium intake, via seseame seed or something, if the pain would cease.

And I have heard of the citrus juice fast (on curzone), but I am afraid to do it. Can't even begin to imagine the pain my collorbone would inflect on me.

Another piece of input concering teeth and pain and me. My teeth started hurting, mainly when I ate sweet things. And I love sweet things. I started doing green smoothies daily, according to Victoria Boutenko, and the pain is lessening. Big smile here!

Listen to your body! And good luck figuring it all out -- including being able to afford it all.

Just brushing after every fruit meal is the best way to avoid tooth pain and decay. It works wonders.

While I would agree with rinsing after a fruit meal, I would beg to differ on brushing after a fruit meal - when you have just eaten fruit, particularly acidic fruit (e.g. citrus), your tooth enamel is at it's softest and most vulnerable. I therefore prefer to rinse with bicarbonate of soda and to subsequently chew on mineral-rich greens for a few minutes. I (generally) only brush once in the morning and once at night, neither of which directly following a fruit meal.

Frederic Patenaude wrote a nice succinct article on this, here:

Alex Malinsky (RawGuru.com) asserts the following:

Brushing your teeth with a solution of celtic sea salt, pure water, and essential oil of lemon or grapefruit is great. Another favorite of mine is coconut oil mixed with tea tree oil. Very healing and antiseptic.

(read the full article here: rawguru.com/issue6.html)

Note that he refers to essential oils of lemon or grapefruit, which is quite different from their juice and sounds quite sensible to me, given the known antibacterial properties of citrus essential oils.
