View Full Version : Weight
My scale refuses to budge, which puzzles me. When I started completely raw in November, I immediately released 3-4 lbs. Since then, I haven't gained or released 1 lb. Everyday I have a green smoothie for breakfast - 2 bananas, maybe some coconut water or almond milk, a pear, Vitamineral Green, and 2 handfuls of spinach. Lunch is usually a salad, or sometimes just an orange and another piece of fruit. Dinner is usually light - If I'm even hungry (which many times I'm not) I might have another smoothie or pad thai, something along those lines.
I admit to making several of the cookie recipes from LOLF, mostly just to try them out. I usually wind up handing those out at work, but I do eat a few.
I exercise regularly 3-4 times per week at fitness camp.
Although the scale doesn't seem to be moving, I seem to have dropped a pants size, my normal clothes are a bit baggy, and I do feel lighter. I'm just puzzled as to the lack of movement of the scale needle.
Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation while staying completely raw? It seems from what I've read that a lot of you have lost 10 to 15 lbs within the first few weeks and continue to release weight as time goes on. I'm curious as to why I'm staying exactly the same.
Regardless, I'm not considered to be overweight and I'm not giving up raw. Its my lifestyle now and I feel wonderful.

there's a part in alissa's book where she says to throw out your scale because a lot of people find it disheartening - she says to go by how you feel and how your clothes fit.
that being said, i weigh myself on my wii fit almost every day :) and there are a lot of reasons for not losing more - not enough calories, too much fat, not enough exercise, etc.

Alissa also says it's often not what you are eating that's raw... but what you are having that isn't raw.
That said, it sounds to me like you are gaining muscle weight equivalent to what you are releasing in fat. I would ignore the "magic number" on the scale and go with how you feel cause it sounds like you ARE releasing...
Congrats!

I have never weighed myself bc at times, we are smaller in size compared to what the scale states. After I had lost 100lbs 10 yrs ago, I weighed myself....a size 10 yet I weighed 160lbs. I know a great deal was muscle. This kind of saddened me bc I thought I was in the 140's. Now..I have no idea how much I weigh, just that I'm down 4 sizes and they are lose on me!!

I would concentrate on your eliminations. If you are not moving your bowels three times a day, you may be backed up and need to do a colonic/enema. Also, you could look into food combining. Alissa's book has a great chart. You can also Google "raw food combining" and you should find a diagram.
Good luck! And congrats on being so raw! ;)

Quick question, while eating raw, one should have 3 bowel movements a day? I have not heard that yet since eating raw. I only have 1 (sorry too much info, sorry) Just curious.

If you're losing inches (pants becoming looser) I wouldn't concern myself with it. Your body is transforming. It happens.
IF things don't change after 6 weeks or so, then I would look into the emotional aspect of how it is your subconscious wants to hold onto the weight. Very often there's an emotional reason we add it ~ and once that's uncovered, we can release it.
Try this ~
One reason I'm maintaining the excess weight is ~ (add 6-10 completions to that stem and see what's uncovered.)

I've always heard that if you're eating healthy, exercising, but still not losing weight-you're probably gaining muscle. I was disappointed because when I went raw I didn't lose a ton every week like most people, just a pound here and there. Now my weight loss is starting to pick up. Also, it could be what you are eating that's NOT raw that's doing you in. Though if your clothes are getting looser that's a good indication that there is *some* kind of change happening, and that's good. :)

I am 3 months raw now and would have thougth I would have lost a lot more than I have. I did drop a pant size and about 6 pounds. I am at a good weight. (130)
My husband however lost 30 POUNDS!!! He did not have it to loose either.
He also lost alot of the muscle he spend years building.
He was very careful to make sure he was eating enough.
He is no longer raw and has added lots of starches. He does continue to eat healthy fruits and veggies in his diet and will not go back to junk food.
I am 51 and know if I ate this way when I was younger i would have lost much more and been rail thin.
Alissa also says it's often not what you are eating that's raw... but what you are having that isn't raw.
That's a non-issue. I'm completely raw except for Braggs Liquid Aminos which is in some of Alissa's recipes and therefore acceptable I would think.
If you are not moving your bowels three times a day...
Another non-issue. No problems in that area.
That said, it sounds to me like you are gaining muscle weight equivalent to what you are releasing in fat.
I'm going with this explanation, I think :D

You're right, you're right. I'm 56 now. Its much more difficult to lose weight at that age, I think.
Thanks to you all for your responses! I glanced at the scale today and it was actually down another 2 lbs, so, YIPPEE! I know I'm not supposed to look at the scale, but I had a habit of weighing myself all the time before raw so its a habit that's hard to break.

You didn't "glance" at the scale ~ you LOOKED at it and was happy to do so! Don't lie! :p
I use the scale. I don't go by "not supposed to's" because someone says not to. It's a way of gauging progress or non-progress. Without gauges one doesn't know if one is doing something that's making a difference or not.
LOOK at the scale if you want to ~ or throw it out ~ if you want to. Your choice. :)
