I mean this is a good thing but can someone explain it to me please?! No, I haven't read the book yet :o
I just joked with dh that it feels like I had the bypass surgery, because I will make a big'ole kale salad thinking I'm so hungry and eat 1/3 of it and feel sooo full. Same thing with my tomato soup I make or pretty much anything else... What's up!?

that said- I lost 5 lbs this week!!! :D shameless, I swear!:p

Congrats chica! You're doing great, keep up the good living! :D

My hypothesis, based on what I've learned thus far, is that you're feeling full sooner because whole fruits and veggies are filled with water.

Another hypothesis could be that your body craves nutrition and not food per se...so when you eat whole foods your body is getting more of what it needs faster. When we eat cooked food, we have to eat more of it because the nutritional value is decreased in each piece due to excessive heat. So even though we may have eaten a whole plate of cooked food, we didn't eat its full nutritional equivalent. So our brain keeps telling us to eat more, that we're still "hungry," it's not yet nourished. However, with raw food, our brain tells us that we are full/nourished faster because we get the full nutritional value from the whole foods we eat.

Either way, it's fascinating and awesome! :D

Congrats on the weight loss!

There's actually a whole branch of study called "volumetrics" that shows people judge feelings of fullness based on the volume of the food they eat, rather than on the calories. That's why something like low-calorie soup (in the cooked world) is more filling than something small and dense, like a scoop of ice cream. Raw food takes full advantage of this because fruits and veggies are so water-rich but low in calories.

Also, raw food is less likely to cause blood sugar spikes or contain addictive substances (like opioids in milk and wheat), so it's easier to tell when you're truly full, rather than wanting to keep eating to get your "fix." :)

Hi, I've been "suffering" this too.

I've always been a big eater, loved food and have, frankly, eaten to excess. Now, I'm eating far far less because I physically cannot force it down. I keep thinking that I must be short of calories and should I be worried? But I don't feel short of energy, or have strange symptoms etc, so I don't think I'm really short of calories.

And I'm losing tons of weight - so I'm just ignoring it for now!

You're lucky. My metabolism is more like the "30 bananas a day" on steroids.

Hi OMJ- you remember me! I feel all special now! I should have mentioned that I knew about the water part. I had read something about the next part and forgotten about it too. :o It IS fascinating isn't it!? It takes every oz of my being to not tell everyone to go on a raw diet.. really

Denise- There you are to help answer my questions again, thanks! It all makes so much sense. I wanted to add that I love your blog- little as it is so far. : ) I read it a week or so ago and wished you had part 3 up! I have q's for you about your wol now and I'd like to email you. why oh why isn't there pming on this forum? How can I contact you?

gecko! congrats on your wl too- it feels great doesn't it!? the energy that couples it is fantastic too! And I am right there with you- I'd have 4 eggs with cheese, 4 pieces of toast, and a huge glass of milk for breakfast and turn around and eat 1/4 of a pecan pie. Yeah *rolls eyes* I love this change but at the same time I kindof miss my old ways. I won't go back though- at least I really hope I never do! I've lost 28 lbs in 7 weeks!

T_O- I'm sorry!

I LOVE the difference between "raw full" and "SAD full"

you just feel slobby, tired, and gross when you're "SAD full"!
But with "raw full", you feel like moving and being active still!

Somedays, I feel stuffed all day long on a banana and a quart of Green Smoothie.

Other days, I feel like I never stop eating and 300 bananas, 24 trays of crackers and 14 avocados can't even touch my hunger. (I swear, that's an exaggeration. ;))

I love my crazy happy Body on RAW!!!

:D
