Hi everybody! I'm a (mostly cooked food) vegan living in Texas. I'm definitely a health nut, and I stumbled upon information on raw food as a natural progression from whole food veganism. I spent one summer in college on a fairly high raw diet, with daily exercise in the sun and things like no 'poo and skin brushing included. I can honestly say I've never felt better, before or since, than I did that summer. I've been trying to return to that lifestyle, but I get derailed by perceived social obligations, convenience, cold weather, and junk food cravings. Honestly, I know all of those are really internal obstacles. If I can eat vegan in Texas, I can eat raw in Texas. And it's always more convenient to grab an apple than to microwave an Amy's burrito. By now it's a momentum issue. I need to wake up just a bit earlier to make a green smoothie like I used to have every morning, etc.

I'd mostly forgotten about my interest in raw foods, except for 2 things. The main one is this forum. I don't know when I found it, but ever since I did, I've stopped in when I was feeling crappy, just to read what you guys had to say to each other. Didn't matter how relevant it was to my current situation. You are the nicest group of people I've ever observed. It always amazed me at how happy, kind, optimistic, and energetic everyone is here. I figured you guys mist be doing something right!
So when I got sick (my first cold in 4 years - I told you I was a health nut), I decided to start juicing. I felt much better after drinking my fresh juice. Then I'd cave to social pressure and go eat Thai food ... and not be able to breathe for the next hour or two. Eating any cooked food makes my stuffy nose worse, and eating raw doesn't. Imagine that.

So here I am. I'm looking to increase my raw percentage gradually, and see where it goes. Mostly I wanted to say hi, and tell you guys how awesome you are, and how nice it is to see a group of people who genuinely enjoy life. I want to be like that. :)

Welcome! *waves hello* :) Congrats on you journey back! I agree with you, if you can be vegan in Texas you can DEFINITELY be raw! :p

As for morning prep with your smoothies, I read a great tip from Kim Snyder the other day...or was it today? lol Anyway, get some produce bags and cut up all you need for your smoothies for four days and put all you need in each respective bag, washed and all. Then when you get up in the morning all you have to do is throw it all in the blender and add your liquid of choice. I've been rushing the last two mornings and didn't get my green smoothie in...I was not happy about this. So I'm going to use this tip myself tonight. Hope it helps!

Thanks, everybody, for the well-wishes!
OnMyJourney, that's a great idea! I think I'm going to have to try that. I'd been chopping produce and shoving it in the blender the night before, and just refrigerating the blender pitcher with un-blended produce overnight, but your idea is even more convenient! I'm always worried about doing things ahead of time, because I feel like raw food must go bad faster, but that's probably not really the case, huh? I bet you just don't notice it with cooked foods, because you already oxidized the ingredients with cooking.

I've been much better with my raw intake lately. Green smoothies almost every morning. Last night before bed, I stumbled across a bunch of pretty pictures/recipes of raw food on this board, and woke up with the biggest craving for a raw chocolate pudding. So I did that for breakfast! :D It was pretty much the best thing ever, and I couldn't believe that it didn't have anything in it that I would regret eating. Just 1.5 bananas, 1/4 avocado (whatever I could salvage from the avo that was already going bad), 2 dates (Christmas present from my grandmom - I've got a ton of them), and 2 tbsp of raw cacao powder (so glad I sprung for this last time I made the pilgrimage to Wholefoods). Amazing!
Then for lunch/dinner, I made a Thai salad with kelp noodles, also inspired by this board. Wow!

So, thanks, guys. You help people every day just by being you. :D
