Usually on salads I have an entire avocado and a few tablespoons of olive oil but now I realise that's an abundance of fat. I just ate a salad which I tried to make healthier, which contained:

1/4 iceburg lettuce
1 tomato
1 carrot
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon honey
Plenty of sea salt

Would you say this is a low-fat meal? Thanks :)

I would say "very lowfat." But LOL, iceberg lettuce is the white bread of the raw-food world.

Better/more nutritious to go with darker greens and to vary them.

iceberg, nooooooo!!

and it seems to be fat free, but healthy fats are good, and they help you feel full.

There is nothing wrong with iceberg lettuce. It doesn't have nearly the same amount of nutrients as other lettuces. The more colorful the veggies, the more nutrients you will get.

I love to have iceberg lettuce occasionally. It is a refreshing change. I especially like it with strong flavors, like dulse and dried black olives.

i love the crunch of iceberg but i seldom eat it. a few times a year... and usually in a restaurant where they don't offer anything else.

but it is yummy!

And, please watch how much salt.

Blood pressure and all that.

Gah... I would say better to watch the salt than the fat in this case. I agree that if you want to lower your usual intake of fat, better to keep the avocado and ditch the oil.

Maybe try making blended dressings with other flavorful ingredients ( blend nutritional yeast, ginger, cayenne, honey, lemon juice, hemp seeds and/or flax oil, thinned with a little water or kombucha in the Vitamix... my favorite! It's also great with a bit of beet thrown in) that way you can get all the flavor and use less fat. Fat is good to eat at the same time as your dark leafies though, as lots of those nutrients are fat-soluble.

After 3 1/2 years of being high raw and on a fat-fest, I've had to reevaluate my fat content. I'm now averaging just half an avocado per salad, not two!

But I like so much dressing on my salad that it practically turns into a soup! So, I indulge myself and make salad dressings with a fresh orange juice base, just a tiny amount of olive oil, and whatever flavorings I want, maybe ginger, hot chili, lemon juice, etc. It's working out better for me.

- Yep that's low fat! I would omit the honey and salt for better digestion, absorption and assimilation :-) I have been known to use lemon juice to clean my bike, it is quite corrosive on our delicate pink inners
