So I've been on raw for a couple days now and in the morning I've been making myself a mixed fruit smoothie for breakfast. I'm having the most awful time blending it, though! I'm using frozen fruit. When I turn the blender on it just sits there. I mean it chops up the very bottom, but the rest of it just sits there. :/ I have to keep using my spoon to mix it up. I have a cheap $25 blender from W/M that's a few years old. Is that the problem? I don't have the money to buy a new one right now, so if there is something I can do differently with the one I have, please tell me. Thanks!

That is a major part of the problem so, a couple of options ~ first, add liquid, then begin the blender and add the fruit a little at a time; second let the frozen fruit thaw a bit and, add it a little at a time.

In the meantime, put away $10 or so a week in an envelope for better equipment. Scour Craigslist, yard/garage sales, thrift stores, etc. for a good used Vita-Mix or BlendTec. You can often pick them up for a fraction of what you might think. EXPECT that you can find one. I once received a Champion juicer that someone was giving away.

have you tried using some water or fresh squeexed OJ to assist your blender in the process?

~you just beat me to it Rev! :o

I agree with the points expressed already, especially letting the fruit thaw first. Consider putting the frozen fruit in the fridge over night and then blending it in the morning. That will require a lot less work for your blender.

I put about a cup of water in the blender, then a couple of handfuls of Costco's Festival Blend Mixed Fruit. Then I let it sit for at least an hour. Then I blend the fruit, then add 3-4 handfuls of greens a handful at a time, and blend well. Then I add a couple of bananas and blend well. I don't like the texture of the frozen fruit, plus I need it to be not so cold.

Good luck

Thanks guys! My husband usually is the one who makes them in the morning, and I seem to remember him loading the fruit the night before and then sticking it in the fridge... must be why he has such an easier time!
Good idea on looking on Craigslist and putting aside a little bit of money each week. I will do both of those!
Thanks again.:)

Even my Vitamix jams up when I use frozen fruit. I have to stop it and shake it up a couple times before it finally kicks in. Especially if my almond milk is cold too. Good idea to put the fruit in the fridge overnight.

I read somewhere to put your wetter fruits in the bottom and then layer with bananas and kale/spinach over that, so the wetter ingredients help the blender get going..and sometimes add a little water to it.
I make them almost every morning as well, with frozen summer berry mix from costco, but I have an orange in the bottom, then frozen berries, banana and then kale..throw some flax seed on top and off it goes, sometimes I have to add water sometimes not..
I have no clue why that is.
I do not have a Vita mix or Blendtec, but an older juiceman 900w blender, works great so far, but once it goes I am aiming higher too..for one of the aformentioned blenders...shhh, don't tell my hubby.
