View Full Version : Convincing proof there's a dramatic difference in juice quality from Green Star

At a friends house we made apple juice in his omega juicer and after probably 5 minutes the juice was dark brown.
I don't make apple juice because I find it way too sweet, but tonight before making my vegetable juice I decided to juice an apple and put the juice aside to see if it would stay the bright yellow it is when fresh to see if the Green Star's numerous oxidation preventing and nutrient enhancing technologies really work.
I waited up to an hour and a half, with the juice unrefrigerated on the counter, it hadn't changed color at all, the same juice from the Omega turned dark brown after 5 minutes!
So to those who think the magnetic, bio ceramic and far infrared technologies in the Green Star that prevent oxidation and extract more nutrients are a marketing gimmick, I think this simple experiment clearly proves the Green Star does in fact make a drastic difference in juice quality.

What do you mean by I upgraded? It was my friend that has the Omega juicer, I got my Green Star 2 years ago if not more.

I have an Omega and haven't had the experience of the juice turning brown....

It's only apple juice that changes color when oxidized. Other juices remain the same color even when oxidized, that's why only pure apple juice can be used for this test.

How fast do you drink it? If you drink it in 5-10 minutes it may not have enough time to get very brown. Try letting it sit for at least 30 minutes. The one at my friend's house got very brown after maybe 15-30 minutes.

I think sometimes it depends on the type of apple you use. Some apples go brown as you eat them in a very short time. Others not. I juice honey crisps regularly and don't drink my juice for some hours (its in the fridge) at work. It doesn't go brown however I also juice carrots and ginger with them so maybe that stops them from browning too.

I had one batch turn brown recently and in short order, but they were a different variety than I usually do. I think there is something to the different apple issue. That's not to say the Green Star doesn't do as advertised though. I trust it does. Citric acid prevents oxidation on sprouts, bananas, avocados, etc., so that could always be added to prevent browning which is just oxidation. I usually do some with my juicing so that is probably why I haven't notice it often. Either that or carrots which has another strong antioxidant, beta carotene. I've not noticed it turn brown on me then either.

Is the Green Star easy to use and clean? I hate my Champion!

It's very easy to use but not the fastest to clean, it takes me about 2 minutes to clean if I do it fast. Most parts you can simply rinse under running water, but the filter needs to be scrubed with the included brush.

Thanks Raweater.
Yes, the Greenstar isn't the quickest to clean up and I end up scraping the screen with my fingernails, but the tremendous boost to my health and vitality as the result of making green juice is well worth it.

Hey Raweater -
I have found that different types of apples seem to brown at different speeds when juicing. For instance, Braeburn doesn't brown as fast as Fuji. When you did your comparison, did you use the same variety of apples?

The greenstar does work well - but I've switched to the Hurom ... works great. Since getting the Hurom, I have used my greenstar only once, and wasn't happy with the clean up time (as compared to the Hurom).
I usually make most of my juice in the morning, and store it in small glass jars for later. Haven't had any problems with it turning brown, but I do mix apple with other things.

I also got a Hurom and sold my green star a few months ago, I'm so glad I did, the Hurom is so much better.
