I've seen this endorsed a lot of places.....and I like it - especially in the weather we have now.
But even just heating up water for a minute makes it taste like the pan, grosses me out and I wonder if those particles are harmful.
Anyone have a pan recommendation that won't do this? I was looking for visions cookware - it's discontinued....

I like water at room temp. The water that comes out of the pipes (filtered, of course) is too cold for drinking at this time of year.
To heat water for teas I'm using an electric glass tea kettle Hubby bought me for Christmas. Only the bottom heating plate is metal. Boils water in about one minute or I can pull it off before it reaches a full boil. Has a steam activated automatic shut-off. No after taste that I have noticed.
It is an investment. Would not have bought it for myself. Hubby got tired of me burning up tea kettles on the stove. :p

Stainless steel tea kettle here. No noticeable taste. Filtered water to start with and change filter every three months or so. We are on Lake Michigan water and it can get nasty in the early summer with the alewives dyeing off and the algae.

I warm the water right in the glass cup I drink it out of. After I have it warmed I place the cup on a small cup warmer I keep on my desk so that I can have a sip of clean warm water whenever I want. The cup warmer does a good job of keeping the water warm but needs help in getting the water warm to start with.

Dr Mercola has been pushing this cookware for a long time now. I would buy some for my husband but it would be awkward to get it shipped here.

Well I think that he is highly thought of and I, for one, look forward to his newsletters. I can not vouch for him or his cookware but I would have as much faith in him as in anyone.

There is no need to heat your water unless you are making teas and such. I would definitely use glass or ceramic containers to minimize contaminants leaching into the water. You could always place the container in a sunny window to warm it to some extent and it is believed that this helps improve the water in some ways as well per David Wolfe and several others I have seen in raw food circles. Definitely do not use a microwave for heating water as this supposedly destroys the structure of the water and your body does not even recognize it as water at that point.

they were on special last week at lidl, of all places, lol. i dont like that mine has a plastic pour spout but its still a huge improvement over the plastic... i couldnt come to terms with the idea of making healing herbal infusions with water that had been heated in a plastic kettle thats probably releasing toxins. ugh.
BUT they also have them at argos. they have a plastic lid but they have a glass pour spout. i was just tired of waiting to get to tralee to get one from argos so i grabbed one of the ones at lidl
http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=30001&catalogId=1500001801&langId=-1&searchTerms=glass+kettle&Submit=GO+%3E
*have a look at lidl though as they were only about 27 euro

oh--tbird, the argos ones wont help you out..if you get an electric kettle from the UK it will be on UK power current supply blah blah so dont do that!
heres US ones: http://www.englishteastore.com/chefs-choice-electric-kettle-glass-679.html
but i think youd be better off trying to find a used glass pot or whatever... $70 for that kettle seems like alot just to warm water, lol
ya know, i dont know if it would give you the metal taste or not, but i remember in college there were people talking about this thing, almost like a thermometer i think, that you stuck in your mug of water and it heated the water...
wait: here is the UK stovetop one that i found but its on a US site in US dollars : i think i would go for this one..in fact id like one of these myself...i wonder if herbs can be simmered in it...its impossible to find glass pots here... http://www.adagio.com/teaware/water_kettle.html?SID=523c84b0ac92a60ba2f7e36fdbd7 e610
