Raw Equipment

I don't have Alissa's book yet and I guess the one thing that is stopping me is that I don't know if I will have the kitchen appliances to be able to complete the recipes. Are the recipes blender friendly or do you need a food processor, dehydrator, etc.?

Some of the recipes won't require a food processor or dehydrator, but many of them do require those. Now there are less expensive alternatives...the dehydrator I have has temp. control and works great! It's the American Harvest Snack Master. I think I got it at Walmart and it's like $40.

The food processor you can find at Walmart.com for under $50 (the Black and Decker F1500 10-cup model is the one I have and the one Alissa and a few others have).

Prior to getting the processor, I did try to make some of the recipes that called for ingredients to be processed in a processor using my blender, but they didn't turn out too good. Even if you get the processor first, you'll be able to make a lot of the dishes until you get a dehydrator.

I took the plunge but it was a pretty affordable one!! I went to Target and they had a Hamilton Beach food processor and a juicer and a Salton Dehydrator for a total of $80!!!!

The difference between the Black and Decker food processor and the Hamilton Beach one is a 150 wattage difference. Other than that they are pretty much the same and I don't mind pre-cutting the produce a little to extend the life of the blades.

YAY!! I also went to the bookstore to find some Raw Cookbooks but I only found Juliano's and Charlie Trotter's. Are there any simpler cookbooks to start out with? Some of these recipes called for ingredients that I have never heard of or seen!!! I want to buy Alissa's but I am afraid that after I spent today on all of the machinery, I don't have much else to spend.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can purchase a Champion Juicer and a Ktec Blender for a "steal" ?

I just got my k-tec a few weeks ago from everything kitchens for a steal! Much cheaper that anywhere ele on the web (at the time), but check around though. I ended up paying a few bucks over 300 for mine and I love it!

I ended up paying $305 for my blender from OpenChute.com and this included shipping. I haven't received it yet, but hopefully it will be here by Thanksgiving.

I spoke with Lisa from there and she was very willing to work with me. Highly recommend this company if anyone is also in the market for a quality blender.
