I'm starting this thread as a companion to one going in the Discussion section where people are trying to find ways of cutting down their expenses, with some sacrificing organic just so they can stay raw.

Someone else mentioned that they are using more seeds in place of nuts in some recipes for economy.

I would like to invite members to find and post the most economical recipes here, maybe adaptations of others like the seeds-for-nuts idea. Here we should see recipes that do NOT include expensive, exotic "super foods" that have to be ordered, but cheaper, locally obtained ingredients.

Everyone knows that they can make a meal of several bananas or a vegetable salad, so let's not include those suggestions. Let's be really focused on gathering together actual recipes so people have a base to use that can help them plan full economy-conscious menus.

I'm in the middle of a move right now - in fact someone is here tapping his foot - waiting to take my computer, so I'll be offline for a few days until I'm set up again. But I'd love to see this thread get a good start in the meantime. I'll add to it too as soon as I can.

OR if there is one already in existence, please include a link.

Thanks. I think we could all use this, if not for ourselves, at least to help others who have cost concerns.

You can post any recipe you want. Links-it usually depends. Better off copying & pasting.

One of the best ways to make recipes work is to eliminate a lot of the ingredients. Most have way too many of them and they're not all necessary. Using 1 type of fresh herb or avocado can often be flavorful enough that you can eliminate many other things such as salt. Garlic is an even cheaper way to flavor food.

Fruit pudding can often fill you up more than fruit alone, when need something heavier. Even better with added coconut, avocado, or chia seeds.

I stay away from coconuts they are expensive. Here the Thia coconuts are $4.50 each!!! Besides they don't agree with me.
I have yet to try chia seeds.
I use a lot of hemp seeds but they are not cheap unless you buy in bulk.
