Does anyone have any info (whats good/bad about it and why it is not good for people in general) on soy??? I cant find it here. I need info to give to people and cant put my fingers on it here.
edit: I am inquiring for a soon-to-be-raw friend and I know I have seen discussion somewhere here. Thankx for the help in advance.
I cert. dont eat soy n dont encourage others too yet wanted to refresh myself of the downsides of it...besides the cooked part.

What info are you looking for exactly? "Info" is an awfully big category.

I beggeth to differ. Soy can be eaten raw, I have a local asian market near me that sells soy sprouts.
Something I wonder about the bad wrap soy gets; is the soy in question GMO, or not? Is it rryyyyaw?

I don't know about raw or not, but I wanted to add that your friend should be careful about where they purchase it from. From what I understand, from reading on my own, a good bit of US soy is GMO...of course, unless otherwise noted as organic. As I transition, I don't "do" soy for that reason alone.

Oh thank you for your assistance..I feel better able to help my friend. I never really did soy at all and some other friends has asked as well about it helping the hormones of women. I knew it wasnt good but forgot why. I did mention the GMO right away.
THANKX!!!

The only soy product I use, and this is because it's in Alissa's book, is live-culture (living) Miso soup. :)
I avoid soy in every other form due to its NEGATIVE effects. Fortunately, that's easy for me - I'm hugely allergic to most soy products. I've experienced negatives up close and personal.

That is interesting that you are sensitive to soy but can handle the miso. The miso doesn't bother you at all? What brand of miso do you use and where do you get it?

Just because it can be eaten doesn't mean it's good for you. Raw soy is toxic and very hard to digest. It needs to be cooked and/or fermented in order to be eaten.
You can probably get away with eating a small amount every now and then. But considering how awful it taste, why would you even bother? :D

Don't know where to get real info, but I do have an anecdotal tale to tell. My brother's partner is a shaman-type healer. She was a vegetarian for most of her life. (Her age is a mystery but she is somewhere over 60.) She relied heavily on soy and soy "meats". Eventually she became very ill with thyroid problems. The first thing her doctor told her to do was give up soy as it likely the cause of her thyroid problem.
