I made the not tuna pate tonight for dinner. We ate it with some sliced up vegetables like a dip. It was filling and I really enjoyed the texture. But to quote my daughter "It doesn't taste bad, just plain." I think it's missing something and believe it or not, it isn't missing the taste of tuna. It almost isn't savory enough or something. I'm not very good yet at off the cuff raw uncooking, so I wonder if others have suggestions to share for the next time I make it...

add more spices!!! it's all about the spices... that's what makes our food 'taste' this way or that way. so next time add more spices.
exactly the same spices you would use when making a tuna salad. ;)

Play with what you like. If there's no celery in it, add some. Pickles are good too.
I've never known what to put in tuna salad except mayo so, can't help you there.

I love the taste of canned tuna actually. It must be the midwesterner in me, but I never add spices to my tuna. I don't even salt it so I don't even have a clue what kind of spices compliment tuna. That is a part of the reason why I like this recipe... it is almost identical to what I would do with real tuna. Just celery, onion and yogurt.

Is this the recipe you're using? Because I remember it being very flavorful.
Not Tuna Pate
½ cup Sunflower seeds, soaked
¼ cup Almonds, soaked
1 ½ tsp Celery, minced
1 Tbs Onion, minced
1 Tbs Parsley minced
1 Tbs Lemon juice
¼ tsp Salt
2 Tbs Water

So, your question is...?

I like lots of dill - even my SAD friends like my "Not Tuna" -- and I think the secret is the dill.

Yea Dimond, that is the recipe that I'm using. It is just falling flat at the end for me though. Maybe I'll try mixing some dill in with what's left for lunch tomorrow. I can't describe what is missing, I'm actually guessing that it's hidden salt.

I've learned to taste before I remove a recipe from the blender or food processor. If it's not working for me, I add some more of whatever ingredient I am most fond of and see if that helps. I've learned (and Alissa says this in her book) that every time I prepare a recipe it comes out differently than before. That is because there are so many variables with raw food that aren't masked by cooking. Some tomatoes are loaded with flavor and some are like cardboard! Keep with it and you'll get your palate tuned.

I figured it out! Dill was very close too! It was sour so I chopped up some olives and threw them in there. Y U M!!!!!!!!!!!
Try adding more onion or a bit of cayenne.
I've seen recipes for 'not tuna' that call for dulse flakes that will give it the 'fishy' taste. I'm not real experienced with sea veggies, but I'm learning. *Ü*

I add a lot of raw dill pickle juice and lots of chopped dill pickles to mine - it REALLY adds a great flavor :D MMMmmm
But, I guess it all depends on how you used to eat your tuna.
