I've been reading about the apple juice fast/cleanse/detox. Has anyone here done this before? If so, what was your experience with it?

Most things I read recommend doing this type fast/cleanse for 3 days.
Is it is not safe for more than 3 days?
Are the results of an apple juice fast/cleanse better than with any other juice?

I did the apple juice fast in preparation for a gall bladder flush. I drank 2 quarts a day of fresh apple juice. It was very hard for me and also my body did not seem to like it......I gained 5 pounds overnight! Took another 2 weeks to lose it again. I mean, I know it wasn't fat but something was screwed up. But for the gall bladder flush you do need the malic acid (which you can also get in capsule form). I don't plan to fast on apple juice alone ever again. But other people seem to have different results.

Oh my goodness!!!!! I need to release! Release! Not Gain! :(
Thanks for sharing your experience. That's just the kind of info I need to be aware of. This is really something to consider.
I've heard that fasting on a gallon of organic apple juice and water for 3 days (sometimes adding prune juice first thing in the morning) is a good way to cleanse the system quickly and flush away some weight in the process. Sounded like a good way to jump start my January fast, but the info I've read still left me with questions, so I thought I would turn here for info from the experts at RFT.

Thanks again for the info.

Why not try fresh OJ? I believe I lose more weight on fresh OJ then any other fruit juice. It's like nectar.

I love orange juice! I just vibrate on it. I press it and usually use it as a base for my green smoothies and it's heaven.

Why not try fresh OJ?

Two reasons: While I Love fresh Orange Juice, I usually have to dilute it with water after drinking a few cups. Also, I don't have a good juicer for citrus and my schedule doesn't allow me the time it would take to have a significant amount daily. I often buy fresh OJ for $3-4 per cup at the only health food store here that makes it. However, I have heard of people having good results with OJ. Thanks for the suggestion.

Your welcome, I hope you find a juice that works well for you. :-)

I do love fresh apple juice, personally it doesn't cause me any issues, but I haven't juice fasted on apple juice exclusively before.

After much thinking, reading, discussing and re-reading, I decided to proceed with this 3 apple juice fast. Afterwards, I plan to continue the rest of the month with some other type fast.
I started drinking prune juice each evening for the past two nights and drank apple juice with dinner each evening, followed by a glass of water.

This morning, I started the fast with prune and apple juice, then realized I was forgetting to have water. About mid-day, I begin to alternate the juice with water. Boy, is it cleansing so far! Since I'm going out with friends for the evening, I'll just take some water along and sip while I'm out.

Yippie! Glad to have company on this fast.
I forgot to mention that the prune juice causes me to feel bloated for 1-2 hours. After I first tried it and experienced bloat, I planned to NOT include it in the fast, but I decided to go on and drink it this morning ( drank less than the recommended 16ozs), and I'm glad I did.
Tomorrow, I plan to increase my water intake as much as possible.

Livin,
You're on your own now, my day of fasting was horrible, I am still so sick that I can't even lay down :(

I did the prune juice, and the apple (I juiced my own), and the stomach pains, cramps, bloating, SEVERE gas, and just hurting so bad it felt worse that labor pains!! You can still hear my stomach across the room, it sounds like a rushing river, and a huge monster howling!!

I made it till this afternoon, and drank a good bit of the apple juice.
We even had to rush home from being out, the pain was so bad.
The rest of the day/night I have just sipped on water.

I wish I could just go to bed and it would all be better in the morning.
Best of luck to you on the rest of your fast.

I'm not sure what I will feel like eating or drinking in the morning, all I know is that I don't want to see another apple, or any apple juice for awhile :p

Ohhh Cathy!
I am so sorry your first day was difficult. Hopefully, that was just the initial repsonse to the system becoming cleansed.
I did notice a lot of sounds and movement of my stomach yesterday and wondered why I didn't have the same today. I did have less prune juice today , only about 32ozs apple juice and about 48ozs water. I wasn't home much so and didn't want to have to keep running to the bathroom (but I went enough anyway) so my overall intake was less. I also, had a lot more energy yesterday than I had today.
Maybe less or no prune juice and more water will help you. My guess is the prune juice caused the bloating & gas. It did cause me to bloat.
I do hope you give it another try - at least for part of the day tomorrow- before you throw out your apples. Be encouraged!;)

I posted my update on my thread (carrot or apple juice) and just wanted to let you know I made it on day 2 of my apple juice fast, but I did not drink anymore of that mean prune juice :p
Just the apple and water.
Feeling better, just horribly hungry!!! I don't see how these long term fasters do it!! My hats off to them!

Congratulations on day two! I'm glad it was a better day.

I found day three (today) to be my most "cleansing." Started today with a good amount of energy. Then, about 2 hours later and after what must have been a significant "release" of toxins, I suddenly felt drained. Once I got about an hour or so of rest, my energy level was back up. I guess day 3 put at the point of deeper cleansing.

Since I return to work tomorrow, I decided to drink more prune juice tonight instead of tomorrow. I do have some bloat and stomach noises now. I mixed tonight's prune juice with apple juice and followed with water. Then the "cleansing" affect started again. I hope it's okay to go to Day 4 since all the things I've read about such a fast recommend 3 days (well, maybe one said 4 days), because I felt so pleased with today's results.

I assume continuing beyond 3 days is the same as fasting with any other type of juice. Hopefully day 4 (at work) goes okay. I'll decide later about switching to another type of juice and if I'll stop after day 4.

Made it to day three!!
I'm with you, tonight I feel like I'm starving, and not a happy camper either.
Tomorrow I will start with carrot/beet/celery/cucumber juice and then go to the green smoothies to see how my digestion will do. My stomach has felt really good today, not having to digest anything heavy, so I pray that I don't go and mess it up.
I'm very glad we stuck it out for the 3 days, I feel lighter, and overall "good" even through the not so fun stuff ;)
How did your day at work go?

IMO, If your hungry then your not eating enough calories. If your eating cooked foods, including bottled juice, then your not getting optimal nutrition from your food.

no bottle juices, and no cooked foods, so I'm not sure why I'm hungry??

I juiced 2 lbs of carrots, 1 whole beet, 5 stalks of celery including greens, 1/2 of a cucumber.

I also juiced the apples.

Today I have had 2 lbs of carrots, 1 whole beet, 5 stalks of celery including greens, 1/2 of a cucumber.
And then this afternoon I juiced some oranges (those were delish!!!)

I was going to break the juice fast today, but so far I've only had juice.
Not sure what I'm going to do this evening, but I feel light, and my stomach is enjoying not having to digest "food."

I mainly did the juice fast so I could get my body ready to go back on raw, and to cleanse some off that processed/cooked foods out of me.
My kids were in a horrible car wreck in October, and my raw way of life went out the window. We were in the hospital 2 weeks, and then people were bringing us meals for 3+ weeks, and very thankful for it.
So now I'm back to raw, and the cleanse has been nice, but like I said before my hats off to all of you that do this weeks on end.

Thanks!!
Cathy

How did your day at work go?

I am so very glad you were able to continue and complete 3 days. Yes, I have had periods of hunger, as when doing the MC or otherwise reducing my intake the past - just sipped more juice to get rid of hunger (not saying it was easy).
Day 4 was okay on my frist day back to work. Got hungry about 2pm, but made it! I think I drank too little water because I kept drinking the juice to avoid hunger.
Day 5 (yesterday) I drank 1/2 as much juice. I did have a couple of strange pains (felt like something inside squeezing through to move downward) on right side. Realized at end of workday that I had not been releasing much fluid for the amount of liquids I drank --went to bathroom less than I normally would, so I'm thinking I should add cranberry/lemon juice. I just didn't feel like going to buy any yesterday, so I'll consider getting some tonight. I plan to have even less juice and more water today, then transition to
I've been having prune juice at night instead of morning since Sunday night. It "works" soon after drinking.

It's been a long time since I did any type of liquid fast. This feels wonderful!

Keep me posted on your progress as you transition to other juices and smoothies.

The first step to fasting is to prepare for it so that the fast won't be a shock to your system. You should begin by eating only raw fruits and vegetables for two days before the fast, and slow down your intake of caffeine a week before, or the headache will put you down for the whole day. A 3 day juice fast is what I recommend for anyone who wants to speed recovery and rid yourself of excess built up toxins and a general blood cleanser.

Its best to start your fast in the morning, that gives you all day for the apple juice to start working. DON’T PLAN ON GOING ANYWHERE ONCE YOU START!
The day you start, take a stool softener with your apple juice, so you won’t get bloated. For 3 days nothing but apple juice and water. During the fast, you should consume at least 10 8 ounce glasses of water daily.

If you want to use this as a cleanse, on the 3rd day drink a 1/2c. olive oil, you can use warm apple juice to help get it down, my doctor told me to use this to pass gall stones.

Symptoms of the fast may be: periodic aches and pains, headaches, weakness, and fatigue. However, one thing that will be lacking during a juice fast is calories, and one may feel a little cold from time to time.

I try to vary my juices so I get some of everything. In the AM I will have 2 grapefruits,2 oranges,a large slice of pineapple, a slice of papaya, and some spirulina. In the PM I will have carrot and apple with cucumber radish, ginger, cilantro. The cucumber adds lots of juice. I drink it down straight also mixed with Hawiian spirulina. Since the spirulina is rich in all nutrients including amino acids that is a full spectrum of nutrition easing the load on the liver and allowing it to rest and cleanse. The more I juice the more I crave it and the less I crave burgers and such. Just my body saying feed me the good stuff.
