Ok I made another green smoothie
spinach
celery
romaine
clementines
strawberries-frozen
suconat
I still had to add a bit of water when I was doing the veggies but adding the strawberries really thickened it up nicely. BUT...It still has particles, Is that normal???? Its pretty tart but the suconat is helping. ALSO the color is NASTY If I died and some one had to come in and clean out my frig I can't imagine what they would think I had in that mason jar. Of course I have over a quart of this concoction. How long should it take to drink this?? Should I have blended longer? The particles are grossing me out. HELP

Do you have a high speed blender? If not, I'd say that's probably part of the problem. I have a Hamilton Beach model, which is nice, but not as nice as some of the really powerful ones like the Vitamix. I also get stuck with particles, but when I make green smoothies, I blend for thirty seconds...then wait a bit..then blend again..then wait...then again, so that the unit doesn't overheat. It helps, but I think I'll be stuck with bits of green until I can afford a more powerful blender!

Have you tried pressing your own fresh orange juice and using that as the base for your green smoothies? It's heavenly!

Hi Kathy ~ I'll tell you how I make my smoothies in the BlendTec - maybe it will help you out.
First I add my water (or liquid). Some days it's the juice of a young Thai coconut or just plain water.
Then I add my greens. I also add at this time hemp seeds and bee pollen. Then I will put this through one whole smoothie cycle - just to get those greens blended very well along with the hemp and pollen.
Now I start adding my fruit. I buy a frozen fruit blend at Walmart that I am *loving*. It has peaches, pineapple and grapes to name a few. I do not add this frozen though, this mixture I add thawed.
Then I add frozen banana slices and frozen blueberries.
Blend through a cycle and taste. If it's not sweet enough (because I add a LOT of greens) then I continue to add fruit until I get it to the sweetness level I like.
Sometimes I add green stevia too - not too much though, maybe 1/4 teaspoon.
I make 1.5-2 quarts daily this way.
I've never added celery - I keep my smoothies basically greens and fruit, that's what works out best for me.
---
Now - about the particles. Are they from the frozen strawberries? We buy fr. strawberries at Costco and they're huge! If I wanted to add them, I would thaw them first. I can add say, half a frozen banana, but they are pretty soft. My frozen s'berries are like golf balls, they're frozen solid.
You asked how long it takes to drink a quart of smoothie. I drink all of the 1.5-2 quarts in one sitting. And I'm pretty darned full when I'm done - ha! *Ü*
