I made a green smoothie today. (first time ever)
4 romaine leaves
2 clementines
1/2 c frozen pineapple
maybe 1/2 cup water
I let it blend away for about 60 sec in my blendtec and presto!!!
A little runny
A little warm
Surprizingly tasty!!

Yeah with the warm,
sub in ice cubes for water, and push them into the blades with the plunger.

Or cube and freeze any of your favorite fruits and use them. Drizzle lemon juice over fruits to slow oxidation and browning before they freeze.

I'm prejudiced in favor of freshness with fruits and veg - prefer to freeze the water..

That's fine too. I just don't ever find myself very often adding water to smoothies. The liquids are usually fresh juiced apples, coconut water, aloe juice, or one of the nut/rice milks. It's all good. Ice does give it a nicer texture though, more like a slurpee/slushie/freezie, don't you think?
Hi Kathy ~ Congratulations on your green smoothie!
I've got a BlendTec too and I just wanted to toss in that 60 seconds is a pretty long time to blend that smoothie.
I use the far right button, I think it says Smoothies and would recommend running it through 1 cycle.
My smoothies are really thick because I add frozen fruit. Here's my favorite green smoothie video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXr8-jru1KE&feature=PlayList&p=6E407F680A63B473&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=29)that started it all for me! My blentec is not as big as the one in the video, but I agree that 60 seconds was too long. I do have another question...I was reading a diary of "robyn" a girl that went raw to lose weight, her food diary reflected a green smoothie every morning for breakfast. Do yo think she just sipped on it all morning? The smoothie I made was barely a cup, I had it down in about 10 minutes. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hi Kathy ~ I don't know about the green smoothies to lose weight. I doubt that I could lose weight on the smoothies I make since it's 1.5-2 quarts every morning (ahem!).
But - you may not want to sip on your smoothie all morning long. Others have done this and there's a concern about getting cavities that way. Myself included... Now I make it - drink it and go and brush my teeth.
If I was wanting to lose weight (and this is just 'me') - I'd have to cut back on the amount of greens in my smoothie because then I could cut back on the fruit (to cover the greens). Make sense? If not - let me know! *Ü*

I really want to lose weight. I'm not really fond of the green smoothies yet, but I am willing to give it a go if it helps with the weight loss. I will keep trying :):)

In the 3 (soon to be 4) 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenges I have led since July 2009, more than half of the participants in each one lost weight (some lost significant weight, others just a few lbs). Please note that ALL the participants in the past Challenges except only myself were SAD eaters!!! So Green Smoothies were literally their only dietary change.
It should also be noted that these SAD eaters noticed that the MORE GS they drank, the more weight they lost. I would suspect this is because GS is an appetite-curber and metabolism-booster.
Stick to it! Nothing better. :D
