View Full Version : Burnin' Brussel Sprouts

I just ate a Brussel Sprout salad, nothing but Brussel Sprouts and some seasonings, and it made my mouth burn a fair amount... so I drunk some Kombucha to try to take off the burn and it felt like I swallowed a baby porcupine that just came out of the oven.
Why is it that Brussels burn?

I find them enjoyable though maybe a little sharp to the tongue sometimes similar to a radish, or mustard greens, cabbage and other brassicas. Are you referring to that kind of burn? I am not sure but maybe it is the compound in them that gives off the sulfur odor when they overcooked. It probably has a different effect when raw and maybe this is it.

There's a bit of a bad smell of them too? or maybe justs the ones I juiced last week. I was putting them through and mr greenstar wasn't too impressed.
poor ol' brussel sprouts can't even cant even catch a break at christmas:D

When I eat em, I take that as a stop signal. Maybe they're not really all that domesticated and that's why we can only eat a few. If that's true, then they must be super nutritious compared to other stuff we eat or just that we really don't need much of the nutrients it has.
I generally can only eat 2-4 of them before the burn.
