I may end up asking my doc to just book me up and get these babies out... I get sore throats almost every time I get sick and since November i had strep off and off and I finally got over it its been 5 days I think it may come back again... my throat started getting tight and ached a little to swallow. I did some research and doc had said before I have large tonsils ... I may have cryptic tonsils.

I don't know if you get to pick and choose which procedure but if it's the regular one, looks like I may be taking a lot of downtime... and since the majority of recommended things to consume are not raw I was curious to see what that raw food way would be.

mine are gone and I wouldn't recommend it: read Dr. Norman Walker's thoughts on it--> very interesting. Otherwise, if you want to constantly feel tired and get your hormones all mixed up then go for it :) Get well soon!

you will get sore throat anyway,- with or without the tonsils....and it will be even more unpleasant than before. Hope you can make the right decision for yourself. Just make a research before you do. It would have saved me a lot of pain if I would have informed myself about all the pros and cons...but I was 4 y. old at the time.

I too believe they are an important or vital part of the lymph system and crucial to elimination of toxins. Tonsiliths used to come out of mine regularly for much of my life while consuming dairy. Stopped dairy around 1990 and the tonsiliths stopped being excreted. I knew then they had a major role in detoxing. Find what is causing the problem...it's out there waiting to be found. While on dairy, I had sore throats about bi-weekly for years and years, injected ears, and recurring colds and infections. Those stopped too after quitting dairy, as well as headaches and a lot of stomach discomfort. May not be dairy for you, but possibly another food of just detoxing from years of wrong foods. Oil pull in the meantime.

They are wrong to remove appendix's and I think the idea of removing tonsils and gallbladders is just as wrong in most all cases. They can be healed.

Don't take 'em out unless you absolutely have to -- tonsils do serve a role in immune function.

If there's no other option though, raw foods during recovery would be a breeze! Just blend all your meals and eat a lot of cold things to soothe your throat. Green smoothies, frozen banana "ice cream," frozen blended melons (these taste like sorbet)... any frozen and blended fruit, in fact. Raw puddings, juices if you have a juicer (except for orange juice -- that would hurt), young coconut water, etc.

Just stay away from sour or salty things, and citrus.

I had my adenoids out when I was 12 (near the tonsils) and I ate nothing but popsicles for three days. You could make your own popsicles by juicing some foods and then freezing the juice in popsicle containers with a chopstick or something.

Also, I don't know how long you've been raw, but anesthesia and medication tends to have a really, really strong effect on raw foodies. At least in my experience. I've been under the knife three times since going raw (wisdom teeth removal when I was 17, and two arm surgeries this past year) and I absolutely could not take pain killers afterwards because they made me so ill. Let the docs know you're very sensitive to medication and to give you the minimum dose possible.

Other than that, raw also helps you heal super fast, so whatever the expected recovery time is -- you'll probably be up and about much quicker than that. :)

Just a little side note. I have a very good friend from Bosnia. During the war, she and her children immigrated to WA and her husband, an MD had to stay in Bosnia. He knew America's propensity for yanking tonsils "just because".

He insisted his wife stand firm and NOT get their children's tonsils removed here in America. He told her they are the body's first line of defense.

I had mine removed when I was 13 after becoming immune to triple doses of penicillin for chronic tonsillitis... (oh boy)

Just curious - have you seen a good holistic MD? *Ü*

Thank you for these comments. They have helped me make a decision for an upcoming dental visit. Raw five months and previously was also very sensitive to meds so I am taking this seriously. Thanks, very helpful.

good grief I should have known so many people on here would be anti-removal anything LOL!

I've done a ton of reseach and believe me I know a lot about medical stuff.

Although they say tonsils help the immune system, what it does is actually trap bacteria/ viruses preventing it from going into your body. Despite that, the vast majority of people who have them remove never get strep or suffer from tonsillitis again (yes yes I know its still possible, I'm not saying it never will happen again).

In addition they don't normally (then again I don't know about the U.S) remove tonsils for no apparent reason. You have to get strep a MINIMUM of 6 times in 6 months before they will even consider booking you, OR you have to have such serious inflammation to the point where your either having trouble breathing or serious trouble swallowing...

Which in November I could have gotten them removed. It was the worst pain of my life, couldn't speak and I couldn't swallow my own saliva without the most unbearable pain. If I had gone to the hospital they would have removed them but at the time I was trying to be a hero and hope my immune system would kill it. If I had not gotten (yes the horrible horrible!) antibiotics I could have actually died. I should have never let it get to that point and even doc scolded me for not coming in sooner.

I prefer to avoid taking drugs most of the time and doing anything that is pointless to my body but sometimes things are necessary and as far as removing things like appendix, I don't know what fool would get it removed that wasn't going through abscess swelling and inflammation (probably from toxins) that would be FATAL if not removed.

Then again there is a reason why Canadian education for doctors is considered higher... maybe doctors in the U.S (which I''m assuming most of the ridiculous surgeries come from) really are brain dead.
