View Full Version : What do you guys think of raw ice cream?
I've never tried any but I'm thinking of whipping up somee bananas tomorrow and shoving 'em into the freezer.
I've always been a big fan of ice cream so can you tell me how it compares to the processed stuff of SAD eaters? What does it taste like; is it as refreshing? How is it?

Love raw ice cream. I was always a huge ice cream fan, eating a pint of it in 1 sitting, though I could eat more. It's easy to make and tastes great. What other ingredients are you adding?

I freeze the bananas first and then whip. I LOVE it but I add chunky stuff to it like nuts and shredded coconut. Also other fruits like berries and such. It changes it up a bit.
Happy ice cream day. Keep us posted!

In order to get the best texture, you want to peel the bananas and freeze them for several hours THEN blend them up in your Vitamix. And I LOVE raw icecream. It's a hundred times better than the SAD version.
I'm on the very simple side of raw food because I can't afford the extras and stuff (let alone organic, although I know I should) so I was thinking I'd just squeeze some orange juice in or something like that... no idea!
Stupid question but, is raw ice cream fattening/unhealthy? It's only fruit, right?

It is only fruit and noooo not fattening. wooohoooo
Yes put oj over it if u want. If you are getting it from the orange, then put some of the peel grated (a tiny bit for flavor).
I dont know what else you might have. Any fruits, chocolate, nuts, even cinnamon or nutmeg.

Sooo glad this thread was started. I'm about to go peel and freeze some bananas right now so that when I get Veeta (my new Vita Mix ;) ) home tomorrow I can make some raw banana ice cream!! Yippee!! Maybe I'll get some strawberries while I'm out to give it a twinge of red...since it's the holidays and all. :p

my favorite 'I Scream' is frozen bananas, blueberries and cinnamon with a dash of coconut water. SOOOO good! And no stuffy nose or tummyache like you get from the SAD junk
And, to the "is it fattening" question, I'll answer with, do you think smoothies are fattening? Raw Ice Cream is just a smoothie with less liquid... Enjoy ;)

Just being new, do you have to have a VitaMix to make the ice cream or can it be donw in a blender or food processor? and what is SAD? Great to learn all these things we can do raw!!!!!!!! Thanks:):):)

I have not made it with OJ but I have made it by adding frozen orange segments to the bananas.
I love ice cream too much.

I could do mono on raw ice cream for the rest of my life -- made it almost every day last summer!

LOVE IT!!! I let the frozen bananas sit out for a couple minutes, then process in the food processor with the S-blade. If I have any extra nut milk I will freeze it in ice cube trays and process it, too.
My favorite ice cream is made in the VitaMix. Nut milk, dates, and any frozen fruit, usually berries. I keep adding frozen fruit until it is thick and eat immediately.

As others said you neeed to freeze and then process.
However for a more "real" ice cream it's better to make it like "real" ice cream is made but in a healthy way. Blend water and macadamia nuts or cashews with about 1/4 cup coconut oil to make it richer to make a rich cream, then add flavorings and sweeteners of your choice like cacao, vanilla, fruits, mint oil, etc.
Then run this through an ice cream machine (available for as little as $20) or freeze the mix in ice cube trays overnight and then process the ice cubes in a food processor. This makes the best raw ice cream.
