Hi, everyone!

I am new to the forum and just discovered the site today. I need motivation throughout my raw food journey from people who have adopted the lifestyle. People that I talk to who don't understand the raw food lifestyle just can't relate, and I was very happy to know that a forum like this existed.

In the beginning of Oct-09 after reading The Raw Food Detox Diet (Natalia Rose), I made the decision to go raw. I emptied my cabinets and fridge of all the condiments and non-organic food. I put everything in a box and "donated" it to a relative who was more than willing to take the unhealthy food off my hands. This action forced me to go grocery shopping for all-organic, raw foods and produce.

The first Saturday of October, I bought a juicer and went shopping. I bought a canister of NuStevia from the local health food store, and I alternate that with agave nectar to sweeten my beverages. I also take a few tbsp of coconut oil daily. I drink green juice 4-5 days a week (more often if I wake up early enough to make it before going to work). My green juice is made up of 5 stalks of kale, 1 romaine heart, 2 fuji apples, and 2 tsp Sun is Shining superfood. I eat an organic spinach salad and a Lara bar for lunch, and have a veggie soup or something equally as light for dinner. I snack on Nori krinkles (Eden Foods). I also drink 84oz of filtered water daily.

I was a bit discouraged after losing only 5 lbs after a month of going totally raw. I am about 20 lbs overweight for my height (152 lbs, 5'2", age 37). Because I am in grad school, I don't workout like I should, but now that I am on winter break, I want to get back into the habit. I am occasionally tempted to stop by the fast food drive thru when I'm carrying cash after a long day at work. I work in an office, and weekend overtime presents opportunities to order out for breakfast and lunch. In my effort to not be a "party pooper", I deviated from the raw food on Thanksgiving. I will try hard not to overdo it on Christmas, but it's not easy.

Sorry so long; I just wanted to give you all an idea of where I am in my journey. Thanks for your comments and encouragement!

Hi. I think that you are doing very well.
Do not be discouraged by your body not shedding much weight. Your body decides what it wants to work on first and weight may not be it's priority. It may be currently healing something that you had not even realised you had so be patient and give it a chance.
Think of your body getting healthier every day and remember that that trip to the fast food joint will set you back a month at least.

Raw works. Eat raw and let it do its work on your body. Not focus on weight but ALL the benefits of being healthy.

Weight loss happens. My body is continuing to shrink after over two years raw.

Best of raw to you.

you are off to an amazing start. My local library had the same book and it kick started me when I was "Raw curious". Don't be afraid to toss some lemons into your green juice mix. I have found that weight loss happens at irregular intervals. I'll be stuck at the same place for 2-3 weeks then I'll have noticeable results in a short period. The best cure is to limit your weigh ins to once a week at the same day and time. Results will come. Sport is correct, your body may be healing another area that does not affect weight.
I wish you all the best on your journey!

HI!!! WOW! GreenJuiceFan, You're doing FANTASTIC!!! Please don't be discouraged... Remember, weight loss happens differently for every different body. Likely, you did not put on extra weight in a month... So, it's gonna take you longer than a month to take it off. Are you in it for the LONG HAUL, or is this JUST a way for you to lose weight FAST?

If the LONG HAUL is your goal, then focus on your HEALTH Benefits, how GOOD you feel...etc. The weight WILL come off before you know it and be an added bonus for you!!!

Also, try things to add to your exercise-less day, like: take the stairs at school, park far away from campus which focuses you to walk a bit more, before you get out of bed--do some situps, do squats while you brush your teeth, stretch before you get dressed, etc. That's what I do. I work nights, so exercising is difficult for me, too. So, I get it where I CAN! :)

If you're just wanting to lose weight fast...well, with that mindset coupled with the weight loss not happening as fast as you want, it's likely that you will get discouraged and not stick to the lifestyle. But, you don't really sound like that kind of person to me...

So, be patient. Stick around! Just don't stop what you're doing--or you'll gain BACK your 5 pounds faster than you would imagine and add to it. (echoing SPORT's Post...) Trust me, I know!!! :o

Hugs,
Nee'

I started out reading the same book a few weeks ago. I am going raw for several reasons, the main one being I have chronic pain and was looking for an alternative to pain medications. You mentioned not exercising. I bought a rebounder, which Natalia Rose highly recommends. It is so much fun! I 'walk' in place or 'jog' or just do the lymph jiggle. It can be a great cardio workout. I love mine. Dont get the cheap ones like Academy as they are flimsy and dangerous. The one I have even folds in quarters, and it was $100 off and they still might have it on sale. Total: $250. I got it from Reboundair.com.

It sounds like you are on the right track. I recently found this forum and it is a wealth of information with very nice people.
