Hi

I (and my wife) are new to raw eating. Just begun increasing our raw food in the last week or two (smoothies especially). We've bought a couple of books and so many of the recipes use avocado to provide fat and "creaminess" for soups and dressings etc.

Slight problem...my other half seems to be allergic to avocado (bright red skin and itched like hell).

So, are there are any alternatives to using avocados for this?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

are great for adding creaminess to soups and dressings.

Oils or nuts can often be substituted if it's just for consistency. Nut & seed butters are good too since they're thick.

If she sticks with raw, she may be rid of her allergy someday.

I read a tip in a raw recipe book saying that if you want to use less avocados in your guacomole, replace the avocado with a chunk of celery + olive oil. Try that, I'm sure it'd add a dope funkiness to your soups.

you'll have to experiment per recipe because I'm sure that some of these might ruin a dish eventually:

sunflower seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds
coconut oil, olive oil
in rare (sweeter) cases: banana might work.

if any seed, nut, or oil seems like it would work, try it out.

Thanks all for the ideas - cashews sounds a good bet! I find bananas can be overpowering in desert type things quite often...but we'll give it a go.

Thanks again:)
