Some religious people I work with are starting a 7 day fast Sunday at noon. Can this possibly be good for you? Is fasting good at all? I've heard that short-term fasting could be good for you, cleansing the system and whatever ... but is it really good at all?

I do think that fasting is something that is highly regarded in almost every culture.

I have Water And Juiced Fasted for a Month and to some that is considered a Baby Step. It was Good for Me. Give it a Try and see how it works for you. What a way to Celebrate CHRISTmas.
A Church I once attended did "Dry Fasting", Nothing by Mouth. I think,Hoped they brushed their teeth. I can't remember. But I did not particapate. My Body needs some Liquid.
Being a Lover of Dogs, I Love to watch them, when they feel sick......the first thing they do is FAST......IN JOY

I find it interesting that you refer to 7 days as a long term fast. I'm not sure if I've done a fast that short.
Anyway... yes long term fasting is great for your body, it heals dis-ease, assists you to overcome issues, deepens your spirituality...
ahhhhhhhhh I love fasting!

Yes, it is great for you! Here is a site that tells you the different stages of detox during a fast that you may find interesting http://www.juicefasting.org/detox.htm
