Aloha,

I have been raw for around six months, just left the hospital after a
small bowel obstruction, the cause is from four previous abdomen surgeries
for a hernia, and last November another small bowel obstruction, this time they waited did a few things and got it to clear, trouble is doctor said there is nothing to prevent this because of old scar tissue. I was wondering
with all the experts on here if they might suggest a diet that may be easier on my bowel problem. I start the day with a smoothie, kale, banana, blueberry, large salad, blended soup for lunch, same for dinner, fruit through out the day. My salads are made with about 2-3 cups of cabbage wonder if this might be a little tough to digest. Sorry for long run on post, but really want to avoid another episode if I can, very painful

So, how are your bm's now?

Prunes have always worked for me. Get dried, unsulphited prunes; soak about 1/2 dozen overnight in water; drink the water, eat the fruit. Voila!

I us baby spinach as well.

Maybe use oils for your dressing? Just a thought. In my smoothies I use ground flax & that always helps me not only have BMs but it makes them much smoother. Sorry for the description but @ times when I get constipated I drink this & I'll go right away but it doesn't hurt at all.

When I did raw, my BM's got MUCH easier after only a little while. I also had a hernia, so I know what you mean about not wantin to go through the pain. Just make sure to chew your food VERY well, and take sips of water in between mouthfuls of fibrous things. Bm's will turn from a newpaper reading to a literal 20 second affair.

I noticed banans were kind of binding for me (I was doing one to two in a daily smoothie) - maybe cut banana to everyother day??

Exercise does wonderous things too :)

Raw cashews and oranges make me go go go. Not blended together but just eaten whole as a snack together.

I too have had a hernia repair. umbilicus :(, not comfortable at all. So BM's are very important to me:D

Cabbage would not work for me. Also, any kind of fruit needs to be very ripe, especially bananas. If I don't eat bananas very ripe, I get constipated immediately. By very ripe, I mean black and disgusting (they would throw them away at the store) What works best for me are smoothies with very ripe bananas all day long, with fruit and greens. Also drinking lots of fresh orange juice. It makes me go every time ;-)
