Well if it works for brewing than I'd say the yeast is alive.

It's a brewing byproduct. It doesn't "work" for brewing. From what I have read, nutritional yeast is a better product and grown to be food rather than being the spent waste from the brewing industry. However, I am not sure either one would be considered raw. I have seen nutritional yeast both promoted and condemned by raw foodists...condemned for supposed mycotoxins. If I knew it were healthy I would probably consume quite a bit of it as it is so very tasty and loaded with amino acids and B vitamins, as well as selenium and zinc. I do add it to my kids' food occasionally in lieu of parmesan cheese and they love it.

Nutritional yeast is the one you want. Not all nutritional yeasts are equal. Look for a good one that is grown on molasses. I prefer Quantam Nutritional Flakes by Premier Research Lab.

I know that it's nutritional yeast that I want, I was just wondering if Brewers yeast was raw. I give my dogs brewers yeast and it smells so good!

yeah neither is raw and living though, just so you know. i actually use it too occasionally, but its not raw or live. they have to kill it so it wont keep reproducing.

I get it from RawVeganSource. They didn't used to sell it because it isn't raw, but brought it into the store after getting requests for it. At this time in my raw life I find it an important supplement and love the flavor. Not saying I will always like it or use it, tastes change, but for now it is a staple in my pantry.

Wonder if my doggie would like it... She loves kale chips with nutritioinal yeast sprinkled on them. I give her a supplement called "Missing Link". One of the top ingredients listed on the label is "Primary Dried Yeast".
