Hi there
I am on day 4 of 100% raw and feeling very irritable which is driving me nuts (as well as my daughter no doubt). I have a head cold which started on day one which may be contributing but I just feel so snappy and impatient - is this normal at all during first week of 100% raw (came from vegan 60-70% raw diet but binged alot on chocolate).
Am wondering if it could be:
- sugar withdrawal after so much binging (another reason I want to be raw)
- due to head cold
- due to detox
I am exercising as I teach part time at the gym so have in the last 4 days taught 2 body balance classes, one run of 4km, one ride of about 17km and walked each day for about 3km - thought maybe my body wants to rest too - I am tired now.
Any ideas??? Any help to cure this?? Appreciate any help at all

I'm on day 6 - ..whoops.. ( looks at clock ).. day 7!.. and it's been normal for ALL of us here. My family has gone organic ( mostly vegetarian ), high raw..and they're detoxing, also. They've been tired, irritable, snappy, impatient, grumpy, poor attitudes about food.. etc.
of course... I've been a perfect angel! ( NOT! )
I sorted through some clothing today for laundry. I made it as far as the family room with the bundle. I stopped temporarily on the chaise lounge to see what the kids were watching... and promptly slumped over as if dead.... asleep.
My husband worked all day, took daughter to ortho, went to night school, came home and installed Wi-fi on the other computer...
he wonders why he's tired?? LOL
And YOU.... ? You ran and biked half way to New Guinea and you want to know why you're irritable? ( ducks and runs! ) Yes,.. it's normal..
Now, that we know it's NORMAL..
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT????
We're not bouncing, buzzing, up all night like Alissa...

Ugh, it better be normal. Our entire family is raw and we are all very irritable.
I am hoping it passes soon. Dh wants to do the 30 days and see how he feels after tha point. I sure hope he feels great so he will want to stay raw.
I know it will pass, but I don't remember being THIS irritable this long when I went raw before.
Maybe my water intake really needs to be upped. I have not been a good water drinker lately.

There is more to detox then meets the eye! It is not just physical, but emotional, mental and even spiritual. Your whole self dteoxes to some degree.
You are making a big change and that can bring on emotional/mental detox in the form of emotional swings and agitation etc. You have stepped out of your comfort zone and that can make you feel many things!
and so it is perfectly normal to feel irritated.

hang in there and you may be!

You've got that right!
I was just writing today about this in my journaling area... Isn't it interesting what one uncovers when it's not being hidden by what is put in your mouth.... when it's put in your mouth... .how and why it's put in your mouth...

This could be completely out in left field but I had two thoughts on this:
1. I wonder if going off animal products causes a reaction due to the antiobiotics and hormones that we were once getting.
2. Also I believe in the collective conciousness and right now there are many people suffering in our country. I am sure some of us are watching the news as well. Which can weigh heavy on our hearts. Maybe we can all light a candle today/tonight and say a prayer.

I imagine it could be. However, I was already Vegan before I began and was quite irritable by day 3, so for me it must have been detox or my normal cycle. Hehe, I have a tendency to be "irritable" every month, I am hoping that will become less so on a raw diet.
Hang in there squidly!

I've gon 100% raw three times, and each time my detox was entirely different.
The first time, I was tired, but not overly so, but hungry and not able to quench my cravings, they were terrible every second of every day was torture, I lasted 3 weeks, until I caved, then it was 4 years before I went one whole day 100% raw again.
Then it was easy sailing, no detox, no cravings, nothing until 2 months into it, then I caved, ate one, thing, another week 100% raw, ate one more thing, another week 100% raw, then started binging, took me 3 months to get back to 100% raw,
This time is the worst for detox, but not necessarily bad on cravings, I've had headaches, cramps, diareahha, constipation, sleepless night, fatigue, ithing ears, ringing in my ears, itchy eyes, scaly scalp, haif falling out, and general body aches all over, and it has only been 2 weeks, not one day goes by without some kind of detox symptom and it just keeps getting worse.
But I'm 100% raw and that is where I am going to stay.
But detox if a funny thing, it's like your body knows what needs to be let go of, and if you can make it through, you will eventually feel better, how do I know?
I don't, I just know I have to believe this, becaue I have never felt this bad in my entire life, as I feel like I'm dieing and I almost wish I would. YIKES!
Everything hurts, I can't sleep, I'm in constant pain, and I basically feel miserable, terrible, awful.

I 're'leared this today -
"Detox" is when all of the yeast, nasty organisms die from lack of environment and "food".. and exit the body. This goes also for toxins being released that are being held within the filtration systems of the body. = Herxheimer Reaction.
So.. We're Herx'n.
sorta like "Jones'n" for drug addicts....
no wonder we feel awful.

Just had to update. Got up at 5:15 am this morning - without any trouble - and did an RPM class (cycling) with SOOOOO much energy. I feel RAWESOME this morning. Not sure about the irritibality as the day has just begun but gees its looking good - right now I am on cloud nine!!!!!!!! and can't wait for my daughter to wake up (it is only 6:50am down under here in Australia)
My cold has all but gone and I am so looking forward to the day ahead - been a while since I coud say that.
THANK YOU guys for your support. Day 5 here I come!!
Also food is looking good today as yesterday while my 2 year old slept I made enchilda, salsa, corn crackers, light pesto and she and I made an apple pie while she was awake - not to mention the huge bowl of fruit we have and fridge full of salad stuff yummo!
RP, sorry you feel so bad. Kinda wondered what was up the past few days. Can't put my mind on why specifically. Guess it was just your energy is off fron usual. Make sense? Hope you wake up tomorrow feeling as good as Squidly does today.
