For the first three weeks raw (am now into #5) I didn't have one craving for cooked food. Tonight we lost our power and DH wanted to go out to get something to eat......the whole time I was almost drooling over his choice.....have been craving meat...which I will not eat and haven't for some time. I feel like I am fighting myself instead of it being so easy as it was.
I feel like I am making myself crazy....I do not want to blow this wol and give in to foods that will make me feel crappy and delay my progress...but it is hard right now....I know I just have to hang tough but I am feeling so torn.....like a drug addiction......I do not want to cave~

In her book, Victoria Botenko (sp?) describes eating cooked food as an addiction. I didn't believe it at first, but now I do. I haven't had refined sugar or bread in three and a half weeks and I feel like I'm going bonkers! I even had a dream of eating some cooked food once.

GlimR, you can make it through this. You CAN! It is your mind messing with you. You have been making big changes and at first it was stunned. Now though, it will try to pull you back to the familiar, to the comfortable.
Do you have Alissa's book? It will help to reread her section in there on the mind.

This is the hardest part of any conscious life change. But you are not your mind or your emotions, so you can get through this.
Ever hear the saying " The mind makes a great servant but a very poor Master" ?
This is where the real work lies. Visualizing helps! As does writing, meditating, yoga, reading ..
Keep talking to us. You CAN do this!

Big Hugs and Many Blessings~

Thank you Sweetgoddess~
I do have the book and need to reread that part, thank you. I can do it and I WILL do it...just slightly tortured by angst at the moment. I am SO aware of the health aspects of my choices and the reasons I've made them and will not give in to the craving...just a very crappy feeling. Must be tom too, that could explain it.
Thank you for your encouragment~ :)

I thought it was just an "excuse" too for "giving in"~ I was wrong......eat more fruit........am eating whatever raw food I want to whenever......meaning if I am craving or hungry...will eat another banana, etc..in spite of the three I already ate!! :p

I've had similar cravings for protein when all raw. I haven't completely worked that out yet; however, I've been told that means that I need more greens. Have you ever tried green juice or a green smoothie? Do you eat a huge salad every day? You might want to try some of these things? Also, do you keep nuts around? If so, eat a handful of nuts. It also helps me when I add raw hemp seeds to my smoothies.

Good luck,

Rachel

For my cravings - I do deyhdrated eggplant made to taste like bacon and also neetloaf. I do avocados as well - and they have helped - oh and portabella's - it may not be much, but it is helpful to me.

GlimR, Congratulate yourself for hanging tough. I have cravings also. One of the things I learned in my early sobrity was to think it through. Meaning entertain the whole idea of eating the cooked food. For example: What would you eat? Whether you think you would enjoy it. Will it make you sick? How will you feel? And the one that always gets me. Will it just be a one time thing or will it take me a while to get back on track, if ever? By the time I go through this process I don't want to eat the cooked food even though the physical craving sensation may still be with me. At which point I eat something raw and I forget about the craving for a while until the next time and then I think it through again. This happens less and less often over time. And the physical sensation gets milder and milder over time. At least that has been my experience with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and coffee; and is proving itself to be true with cooked food as well.

I hope this is some help. I think you are doing great!

Thank you for the suggestions. I do drink a green smoothie most mornings, and if not for breakfast for lunch or dinner...with lots of spinach, parsley, etc... And I try to get a salad in and do most days with lots of dark greens.
As for the nuts...I've been trying all kinds of things made with them that I almost never like...will try just eating some plain...and I do drink almond milk some too, which I like.

I do want to try the bacon eggplant...sounds good to me...do you use the liquid smoke? Thanks for the ideas...much appreciated.

I think your suggestions will be very helpful...ask and answer yourself honestly. Cravings feel like they demand immediate attention, are impulsive and fleeting...so to take that time is a good thing.....I have just been trying to ignore them...maybe if I face them down instead they will go faster~ *s*
Thanks for sharing them with me~

I am doing fine now...was just a hard couple of days. I didn't eat anything nonraw...just was very tense and anxious about the whole thing and that was NOT how I had been feeling the rest of the time. I am mentally back on track I think~ *s*
