View Full Version : The waste of juicing

I am concerned about how much I seem to be wasting by juicing. I have been making teh green juice as per recipe on this site. I get such a small amount of juice from teh spinach and soooo much chewed up bulk that I wonder if I'd be better off eating the same amount of spinach as that I juiced? Is the nutritional value of say 2 cups of spinach and a cucumber not better as whole food rather than the small amounts of juice that an equivelant amount produces?

If you can eat the amount of greens/veggies that you juice, it would be far better because chewing gets the digestive juices flowing and the fiber would be very beneficial. The reason people juice is because they normally can't eat as much produce as they can juice. Yes, of course the nutritional benefits would be the same plus the additional fiber. If you can actually eat as much as say, would produce a cup or two of juice, go for it. Personally, I don't juice much. I blend and drink.

Juice is phenomenol for healing. It is like an I.V. of chlorophyll! It takes nothing for the body to use it yet it amps up the energy and blisses one out!

When one has sickness, juice is great as it creates no taxation on the body to use yet the nutrients are rich.

Green juice creates amazing skin and grain clarity. So do smoothies yet I see the juice as way more powerful for me! Smoothies are an amzinh way to get a whole lot of greens, an amount a person prob would never munch in one day, all in one smoothie!

The leftover sludge can be used in compost, thus not wasted at all. In winter, mine goes in the garbage unfort. I did used to make (try) crackers with it....depends on the kind of juice but greens....

I couldnt stand the smell while they dehydrated! I am sure you can find a way to make crackers or bread that tastes good. I love it when I throw nothing away.

no actually you wouldn't be at the same place nutritionally. the juicer extracts the nutrients from the fibre, something our bodies are not all that good at. think about how long you would need to chew a piece of spinach to get all the juice out of it before swallowing!

if you have a quality juicer, you are only leaving behind the pulp... all the good stuff is going directly into your body and being absorbed 100%!

I've made crackers out of the pulp (makes great crackers).

used it in smoothies... what I've discovered is... it has no flavour left and is just bulk. So now my dogs get it or the compost gets fed. After all, there's LOTS of bugs/plants who need compost!!! Keep that circle of life going!

If you don't want to waste the pulp then I ditto the above

spinach, garlic and onion flax crackers are probably delicious
might also be good with corn to make a RAWchilada wrap

composting year round is also a good idea

I don't mind bulk in my smoothies so the vitamixer serves my purpose for increase nutrient and fiber intake.

When I tried the Hallelujah Acres diet many years ago, I always thought it was ironic that they TOTALLY dissed the Vitamix and wanted you to buy an expensive juicer (which they of course had for sale) and then wanted you to add a fiber supplement (which they also had for sale).

The Vitamix propaganda states they have done tests on the pulp from juicers and found it to have a lot of nutrients remaining in it, sometimes even more than the juice itself.

If I was really really sick I think I would do juicing. But for ease and also for economic reasons, I am sticking with my Vitamix and Green Smoothies.
