Applenut Cereal from The American Vegetarian Cookbook

1 large banana, sliced
1 large apple, coarsely grated
1/4 to 1/2 cup mixed raw nuts
1/2 cup raisins or currants
Ground cinnamon to taste
Dash of grated nutmeg
1 tsp. Maple syrup (optional)
Almond milk to cover (recipe following)

Combine the apple and banana in a medium bowl. Coarsely grind the
nuts and seeds in a food processor, blender, or nut and seed mill.
Sprinkle nuts and seeds over fruit. Add raisins or currants,
cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup. Mix well. Spoon into bowls and
top with nut or seed milk.
Serves 1-2

The person that sent this to me says: We just make this into individual bowls first, so each family member can have their favorite fruits. Then we top with the ground nuts
and then pour almond milk on top.

I read that buckwheat isn't botanically a grain, but rather a (fruit?)

So, soak, sprout, rinse, mix with sweetner or some raisins or dates and dehydrate until crunchy. I don't know if you like buckwheat or not as IMO it is an acquired taste. If you're looking to not dehydrate, then just eat the mixture "wet"...perhaps adding the juice of an orange (or half an orange), some cinnamon, etc. Just thinking off the top of my head.

Other than that, if you are following food combining principles and want no grains, you may just have to settle for the cereal of various seeds and nuts mixed.

I make the apple nut cereal all the time - but add some shredded coconut. Also, I use agave nectar instead of maple syrup. It's one of my favorite breakfasts!

I think it's about to be one of my favorites too!

Buckwheat

Energizing and nutritious, buckwheat is available throughout the year and can be served as an alternative to rice or made into porridge.

While many people think that buckwheat is a cereal grain, it is actually a fruit seed that is related to rhubarb and sorrel making it a suitable substitute for grains for people who are sensitive to wheat or other grains that contain protein glutens. Buckwheat flowers are very fragrant and are attractive to bees that use them to produce a special, strongly flavored, dark honey.

Rawkinlocs, I just found this information. What makes it so exciting for me, is that I now had a completely fruitarian day! I thought my purchased rawnola with buckwheat was a wheat...but it's not. Very cool.

im trying your recipe this morning sweet lips -the first ive tried in a while. I dont have any apples (or raisins) right now, so i shredded a jicama in my food processor. I put some salt on it to kind break it down a bit (im hoping that all washes off!).

mine will be; shredded 1/2 small jicama, 1 banana, mixed nuts and sunflower seeds coarsely chopped with cinnamon, soaked flax seeds (yeah!), and fresh almond milk with a little fresh cinnamon, and 1 tsp. raw honey.

wish I had one more fruit to toss in there, but they're all frozen.

Not sure how my jicama will turn out, the apple sounds better, but... make do! :)

thanks for the recipe!

Some mornings I just grate an apple put it in a bowl with a few walnuts, cinnamon, and raisins or currants and pour almond milk over, that's my alternative to cereal. Sometimes I dehydrate my almond pulp and add that, it gives it crunch. I may have to try buckwheat since it's not a grain. I've discovered I can't handle grains(gas  )
