View Full Version : What to do with all this pie!
I'm wondering if anyone would have a suggestion for me. I live alone and recently I made a pumpkin pie from the recipe in Alissa's book. While it was wonderful, it is very rich. And now I'm leaving town for a week and I have the majority of this wonderful pie left over. I hate to throw it out...what can I do? I wondered if it would freeze well or not...anyone know? The pie's are kind of tough for a single person for that reason. If it was a fruit pie, I would just size it down and make less. But I used squash for this pie and it was the smallest one I could find and it was still enough to make the entire recipe.
Hate to be so wasteful. What do all of you do?

I always cut them into serving size pieces and place in a freezer ziplock container, and then freeze, what can it hurt?
It if isn't any good, you aren't out anything, as you would have had to toss it anyway.

This is what you do:
1. Freeze the pie in a protective covering
2. Run out and get a box and some dry ice (just a small piece will do!)
3. Send it to me!

Jamie, you won't be disappointed! I'd not seen this forum before I watched the DVD's - and I'd not read the book ( all 400 + pages of it ) before I found the dehydrator and got busy.
You've heard a lot of talking now about how people do things - with the DVD's you're now going to see how quick these things are. She doesn't go into deep detail of the more-difficult recipes you sometimes see here ( and are GOOD ! ), but she'll talk you through the basics - and for someone just starting out and who hasn't a clue what's going on, that's all you need. You're farther ahead now, but you'll still enjoy it all.
As for the pie! I just made a carrot cake yesterday. It is SO rich. I had some for dinner last night, and again for breakfast this morning.
If it's not "finished" by the time I think it should be, I'll freeze the leftovers. :)
I have a peach pie in the freezer now.
Keep freezer burn off of it, and try to consume it within... 2 to 3 weeks.

When in doubt - dehydrate and make cookies - that's right, make cookies. I usually dehydrate my uneaten after 2 days stuff - works out womnderfully/
I just got back in to read the response.
Rawlockins...you're on!
OK...so shipping to my raw friends or freezing it is. Thanks!
