Raw food/vegan works. I was doing it and doing well. cholesterol dropped, no more meds! i felt great! but, i slid. a little meat there, some cheese here. dairy. etc. wasnt long before i was full blown SAD again....
so now here i am. a RX for lipitor and HIGH cholesterol once again. plus 20 lbs gained back of the 60 i lost. Raw/Vegan worked. i didnt do the work to keep it going. so, im baaaack!
on the positive side i havnt stopped green smoothies. :) and been using my Montel blender everyday. i believe this is why i havnt been sick in a LONG time. so, i slid bad, but kept some positives in my diet life.
now i need to buckle down and make the changes....
Look forward to reading with you all!
Matt

Matt,

Don't be too hard on yourself. You're still AHEAD! You lost 60, but only gained back 20. And now you have much more appreciation for your healthy lifestyle.

I have never really been successful for a long period of time. The longest I've gone was about 15 days. This past friday was the 11th day of my most recent attempt. I blew it this weekend though and ate sad both saturday and sunday. Tonight I am raw again. I have stocked up for this week and I'm ready for the fight.

Welcome back Matt and Tony - Wow you guys are smart for returning to what works.

I remember my test day - the last can of beans in my cupboard - they were even vegan! Plus a couple of boiled eggs - wow did I regret that day. Anytime I even think of eating SAD poison, I think about that day and it keeps me going!

Good that you have returned - it shows how intelligent you are!

tony, its a mindset. I see no fight. If I were to see this as a fight, then it is something to be a struggle, a battle, something to be fought , conquered and won. This isnt about WILL POWER but rather about standing POWERFULLY for a life of vibrancy and health.

Getting clear on what you want for yourself and your health is a great place to start. And eat one raw food at a time. Best to you.

Jehote great ! hoooray.

I've been using the Montell blender for abou four months now. No complaints.
I used the extra $200 I save instead of buying the Blendtec(?) or vitamix can't remember which it was...to buy another Healtmaster for my folks in Florida. Not having to pay all at once (four payments of $50 but the first payment was $100) was the deal maker. I can't really stomach putting more things on the credit card or dropping $400 all once when there is a perfectly good alternative. Anyhoo...Each morning I make the following:

1-two stems of Kale
2-one bowl of spinach
3-two overly ripe bannas
4-table spoon of flax seed (looks like little brown bird seeds)
5-one gala apple (I heard it was healthier than Granny Smith)
6-one kiwi
7-12 almonds or so.
8-one serving of blackberries
9-small chunk of raw ginger.
10- ice from my brita filter
*soemtimes I toss in a clementine or strawberries if they have them at Costco. I might try a little peanut butter sometime. The mix comes out looking bright green if I skip the blackberries, otherwise a darker green.

I can get about 40-50 ounces from this mix. I drink 20 oz. right away and fill an empty water bottle with the rest for late afternoon. I'm guessing the fiber content is very high because I'm not the slightest bit hungry until at least 3pm. I also find that it shrinks my stomach being a fluid vs a whole food so when I do sit down to eat I get full half way through the meal. I've not really seen anything resembling a weight loss. But one week I was too busy to stop in at Costco for more produce and I felt really awful for a few days. Weird, didn't think it was be so sudden.
At first I think the fruit ratio was too high (not enough greens) but I've taken it down a notch. I found a Japanese market nearby that sells the little bok choy so I'll add that that to the kale and spinach.

again, no problem with either my Healthmaster or the one I got my folks who have gotten into a daily juice regiment.
