Hi everyone, I never thought I'd go through a detox, I've been high raw a long time previously and went 100% raw a few months or so ago, and just felt healing and greater health that I figured I'd be one of the lucky people who just feel better and better and never get a terrible detox. Well, a couple of weeks ago I very suddenly felt nauseas, headachy, diarrea, heart racing and then hot and cold, feverish, exhasution, muscles aching all over and other flu-like symptoms. I literally felt like I was dying. It freaked out my poor kids and when dh came home, I was lying in bed very sick. As I described it all to him I realized that it's most likely a detox, because even though I felt like I was dying I didn't feel sick (you know that feeling of your body fighting a sickness) and I still had an appetite. It peaked and lasted a few hours and then started to get better slowly and it feels like I'm still detoxing but slower and I will be fine all day and notice more in the evening, but now it's different, it feels like all of these old symptoms are coming back but if I rest it goes away and I feel better. It feels like I've got layers and layers of illness that's manifesting and then healing. I just wanted to point out that going through what felt like a heavy detox and feeling like I'm dying and all of these terrible symptoms are now croping up and at first glance it looks like I'm getting worse, I now see how someone can say I've been 100% raw for x amount of time, at first I felt good but now it's making me sick or ill or unhealthy....I always figured maybe they weren't doing it correctly, but if I didn't know what I know about detoxing I might have been tempted to think the same thing. I think they are just detoxing, and perhaps the detox is slower and more prolonged as opposed to being sudden and "violent" and then it's over with and you feel amazing after. They just have to be more patient and allow the weeks or months or whatever time your body needs to detox more slowly and heal itself and then they too will feel amazing in the end. Anyway, I just wanted to share and offer encouragement to anyone who might be detoxing more slowly and wondering if this diet is actually good for them. Hang in there, your body IS getting better and healing in the best way for you! :)

I've been here for about 6 months.....I'd prefer a violent week followed by 3 good weeks....but we don't get to choose, I guess!

People go through detox YEARS after becoming 100% raw, and it can be slow ad prolonged or it can be fast.
We accumulate years of toxins and chemicals in our bodies and it can take years of cleaning house to fully get them out. I trust that my body gives me indicators of whether something is sickness or detox and I feel I've gotten to the point where I can tell the difference.
Hopefully you weather it out and come out the other end, stronger, better and wiser eh?
p.s. my acne bout has been long and drawn out, if only it were all in one week or so!

Thank you, Joy, for an encouraging post! I love that you have maintained not only your RAW focus, but also your positive outlook through what looks like a SUCKY bout of Detox! :D

Hey Flea,
it started a couple of months ago and I've been 100% raw a little over a year ago. So maybe around 9 months of 100% raw.
It cycles in and out, sometimes my skin starts to clear up, sometimes it goes back to being crap. But I have noticed that the good skin phases seem to be getting a little longer and maybe the bad skin phases aren't as bad.
There are several things that I've found have helped:
* just before bed, wet clean face with warm water, get a couple of drops of tea tree oil on the palms of hands and work it all over the face. Go to bed with this on (it sinks into the skin). Next day skin is less irritated and bumpy.
* use a natural mineral clay mask every 2-3 days.
* go to the sauna and sweat for as long as you can.
* make sure you clean your face before bed (I so forget to do this when I don't put on the tea tree oil)
* get some exercise, especially cardiac.
* if you use makeup, get rid of all the synthetic crap makeup and get mineral makeup, does wonders fo sensitive skin.
My skin doesn't look too bad to others, the acne is mainly on the sides of the face (obscured by my hair) and the jawline, but it's quite bumpy and rough and worse than I've seen it since being a teenager.
I'm almost certain it's detox, and I know what is probably going to get rid of it for good. Apparently fasting is extremely good for this sort of thing, but right now I don't wanna!
I'll keep people informed, I'm not so fussed about it, I know it will pass.
p.s. I just got some MSM today, I'm going to see how taking that goes with my skin.
thanks klomasius,
ill try all those things
i had been doing baths to steam my face till this ayurvedic doctor i saw yesterday said it would only exacerbate the problem..she said the same of putting coconut, or any oil, direxctly on ur face...said oil was way too heavy, ok for the rest of the body too..
one thing ive noticed is that i have spots along the edges of my face and jawline - which i didnt realise was connected to lymph - which explaisn the detox spot factor...
