View Full Version : Spirulina Powder - how to take?
Hi - does anyone have any hints on how to take Spirulina powder. All I can find is 'mix it with a fruit juice, or smoothie' - but it ends up coagulating in green globules on the surface - not appetising!

i saw in The Complete Book of Raw Food by Lori Baird for a smoothie recipe called, "Give me Greens!" that the powder causes the drink to reflect the light so it looks like a kaleidescope...i'd tell u the recipe except the book was overdue at the library...so i think its supposed to look like green globes?

Put it in a blender?
I often use spirulina - just have the blender already running, and sprinkle the spirulina (or chlorella) into the 'whirlpool' of liquid - it blends perfectly.
If you ever need to add spirulina to a cup of fluid, manually, then put the spirulina in before the liquid, then add a tiny amount of the liquid, stiring the powder with a fork (don't use a spoon or you'll get clumps in the dip of the spoon) to make a thick creamy consistency. The thickness of the mixture will encourage the spirulina to mix evenly without clumping, after which you can gradually add more and more fluid - it is very important to add the fluid gradually, all the way until completion, or clumping may still occur.
Lemon juice can also be helpful in reducing clumping, but is not essential and is certainly completely unecessary if you are using a blender.
