View Full Version : First time juicer/raw foodist: some help please
Hello everyone, I've been reading your posts for a while and am starting on my first 21 day juice fast tomorrow in view to cleanse my system as I intend to make a complete transition into 80% raw food at the end of it. I have done the MC before and am happy I've found juicing as it resonates with me more for health reasons.
A few questions I would really appreciate some help with please:
- How much juice am I allowed to have each day? I intend to have mostly vegetable juices with only 30% fruit due to their high sugar content.
- Any ideas on what to do with remaining pulp? I am considering eating a small portion of the pulp for fiber (instead of psyllium husks) in addition to my herbal laxative tea each night. Is this a good idea? What do you do with the pulp?
- Am I allowed
(1) carbonated water
(2) herbal teas
(3) vegetable broth?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. I am quietly ecstatic to start tomorrow! :)

Drink as much as you possibly can. Limit fruits to just a little for palatability if you find the vegetable juices too strong. Be sure to drink lots of water. Carbonated is a no no. You don't need to use a laxative tea, that's for sure. If herbal teas make you feel good, drink them. No psyllium. If you're juicing, you're juicing, so no fibers. Toss/compost the pulp or make dehydrated crackers for the non-juicing household members. Consider colonics, perhaps one a week. Also, be open to curtailing your fast early if you need to. Three weeks for a beginner is a very long time. If issues come up (emotional detoxing is very real) and you don't have support to handle it, just slowly ease back into solids and wait until another time. Oh, be sure you know how to stop a juice fast. It's at least as or MORE important than the actual fasting.

well veg broth is cooked... so since you are doing this raw... it wouldn't be allowed. but it's your fast, you make the rules!
as for pop... nope. too much yuck in there for someone doing a cleanse.
tea is totally cool.
compost the pulp or feed it to your dog(s) if you have any. my dogs looooove the pulp when i'm fasting.
all the best on your fast!!!
oh and if you 'eat' the pulp your digestion won't slow down like you want. it'll just make you hungry and defeat the purpose of fasting.
Thank you so much ladies for your responses!
Since I will not be getting a colonic I am a little concerned about elimination without fiber/herbal laxative. Would Smooth Move tea during the 21 days be a bad idea?
I have done the MC for long periods of time, so the juice fast will actually be easier for me because of the variety and the engaged juice prep involved. I'm really looking forward to it.
Any words of wisdom re.ending the juice fast? I have not found much information online or in the book stores.
Thank you again!

There ABSOLUTELY is a right way to end a juice fast. It's not a matter of words of advice. To begin with, you must take 1/2 the time of your fast working up to totally solid foods! There's much more, though. Not ending correctly is why, imho, so many people repeatedly juice fast and also don't reap the benefits.
Get yourself to a decent health food store in real life or online and get one of the basic juice fasting books. You should NOT be doing this without solid guidance -- not internet stuff. Norman Walker's books are elemental, but there are others.
Are you going to do enemas or implants?
By the way, you understand that once you begin fasting, there isn't food that will be moving through your digestive system, right? So you shouldn't expect "regular" BMs.
Thanks RawTruth. I have read several juicing guidelines, online and offline. I have found however that there is a certain level of inconsistency in some areas, which is why I like the way Aleesha thinks: it's your fast, you make the rules. I'm looking for the best combination of advice for my 21 days. But many thanks anyway.
Also like I mentioned I've done the Master Cleanse so am familiar with the fact that regular BMs are not to be expected, but like in that cleanse, I would think it would be important to get things 'going' some days.
Thanks for your input!

i've done lots of extended fasts and often have BMs almost daily with no assistance at all.
That sounds promising :) Thank you!

If colonics are not an option at least get a disposable enema from the drug store and do it every day or two starting at around day three of the fast. I would replace the solution that comes with the enema bag with either distilled water, or lemon juice, or a combination of the two. Remember to hold the enema as long as possible and massage your bowels (lower stomach area) to release as much possible gunk.
Other recommendations
-tongue scraper (daily) but don't press too hard or tongue will be sore for days
tongue is a major detox spot, keep going until no more gunk is out
- skin brush, do this daily for detox
- 15 minutes of direct sunlight hitting as much skin as possible
- lots of distilled (remineralized) or real spring water
- 30 - 60 minutes of exercise (walk or some form of cardio)

Thank you timsmolens. I love your Other Recommendations. I will be doing all of them - thank you for laying them out here, I will work off this list!

By the way 21 is a very sacred number in true theological numerology (not to be confused with what is known today as numerology) because it is the product of the two holiest numbers outside of unity (1)
7 x 3 = 21
3 represents holy stability (light) (immutable truth)
7 represents holy fluctuations (the movement that animates all life, and seasons)
1 represents God in His infinite unknowable form (IHOAH) or
(YAHWEH Ælohim)

Your post made me smile. I am fascinated by numerology (while ironically being terrible at arithmetic) and 21 is indeed a beautiful number.

when i get weak on a fast a raw V8 type juice is the heartiest for me ,
it helps me push the liquid fast farther
if you herbal tea , green tea supresses appetite in many .
i drank it constantly on many fasts to quell appetite
lemon juice squeezed in ice water also quells my appetite

Hi Michigan Roman! Thank you for these. I didn't think green tea was advised on a juice fast because of the caffeine in it? I have stocked up on peppermint and camomile/lemon teas though.
Thank you for the water w/lemon juice tip!

greentea might not be advised but its so difficult to fast ,
and at the same time going to takes tens of fasts to make serious
improvements upon our polluted bodies that i partake in
little less than said to be perfect tactics in fasting to
make them more barable which thusly keeps me fasting
like on several fasts out at like 10 days and just wanting to croak :D
i have a cup of coffee to lift my spirits

dont know what abe guy is . but to people my age , im 51 , croak just means die . and i dont watch tv (besides southpark ;)and nhl), listen to radio , or read news papers so im not up to date on current america if abe guy is a well known term nowadays . i quit listening back in mid 90's when i realized the ruling class were gone

Haha, sorry. Croak is a word we use for 'death' in the spiritual circles I'm a part of. So it means the same to me as it does to you. I thought I'd found a fellow follower.
But we're fellow fasters (so not a word!) here so, hello! :)
