View Full Version : Birthday Parties?

I'm on day 6 of my 30 day 100% raw food challenge (cold turkey from vegetarian), and it's going pretty good so far! I was thinking ahead to after the 30 days what exactly I want to do...I figure if not 100% I will definitely stay at least 95, and vegan.
Concerning social situations though, the only thing I am concerned about where there might be some trouble is birthday parties, where the typical food served is pizza and cake, possibly chips. Sometimes there is a veggie platter. So I was thinking we could always offer to bring a veggie platter or dish, but what about the cake? What are your excuses, or what do you do when it comes to cake time? Obviously eating before hand too, but what do you say if questions are asked? TIA

NO THANK YOU........One way to shut someone up is to tell them that cake doesn't look well on your Hips and besides Fruit taste better.

Bring your own food.
RAW is not nearly as "socially crippling" as people want to think... in fact, I would say that those who blame their social environment for their own inability to stay RAW are forgetting that what they put in their mouths is 100% THEIR CHOICE.
It's not like someone is pinning us down and shoving pizza and candy in our mouths. ;)
Peer pressure is ONLY as strong as you LET it be.
Bring your own food, and bring enough to share... if you're bringing something yummy and incredible like Alissa's Strawberry Crepes, people are GONNA want to eat it, too. :D

Thank you. And pretty much my whole family knows I'm a vegetarian, so I could just straight up tell them that I've simply 'upped my game a little'.

No thanks, I'm fine. Not everyone eats cake & there DOESN'T NEED to be a reason to decline it. If you don't want it then you don't want it!

Rawjess, I'm in the same boat.
All my family know I'm vegetarian, then years back I went vegan so I've been bringing my food to social gatherings for almost two decades!
I honestly don't even think many of them have noticed the transition to raw. :D

Everyone knows I'm healthy, & by not eating cake I actually inspire people. You can do the same :)

The other piece of this is that people really notice what we're doing much less than we think they do. It's so funny when we think that what we're doing or not doing, eating or not eating matters to anyone. It just doesn't! Maybe someone has some curiosity that is easily answered with a sentence, but then most folks don't care more than that. That is, except for the ones who are genuinely interested in what you might be doing for yourself that's really good. The ones that ask more than a passing question sometimes have a real interest in pursuing healthy lifestyle choices. That's when the fun begins!
