Being canadian means exposure to winter. One of the women at the health food store told me both men and women here should use Argan oil in the winter to protect our skin. She has been using it for several years and told me no other oil has given her the results she gets from using Argan on a daily basis. She says in addition to protection from the elements it gives her a healthy glowing complexoin. I gotta start using oil.. the skin on my hands and face get dried from the wind and cold.
Has anyone tried Argan oil ?
What is your favorite oil ( for use on your face) ?

Well apparently its an oil that is from a protected tree ( by UNESCO).
The one we get here is made by a women's coop. They run an eco-system reforestation project to ensure sustainability.
It has legendary anti-aging properties. It has been used for many years as a beauty aid in certain countries.

Argan oil, eh? Sounds like something from the planet Market-tron.
You learn something new everyday!;)
Just kidding. It is probably great. There always seems to be something new out there to discover in this great big world.
I rarely use anything, but I keep a couple of small dark bottles of organic borage oil and evening primrose oil in the fridge for those moments I want to soothe my face from the elements.

I agree marketron is always hyping some new silver bullet. I like local grown produce along with lots of fresh apples and blueberries from the farms here. I don't get excited much about noni, goji or whatever else is a 'must'. I have everything I need within an hours drive.
As for oil, I tried one on my face last winter and it didn't absorb into my skin. I finally wiped it off cause my daughter told me it looked weird. Algan sounds rare and hard to find. I have only seen it at one store.
Is there an oil that is safe, natural, easy enough to find, and absorbs into the skin ? If you are using evening primrose then it must work for you. Absorbs into your skin ?

I use and LOVE coconut oil. It gives my face a glow and it absorbs right in and not greasy. Keeps my skin looking and feeling great!

That sounds perfect ! I have a small sample I got at one of the health food stores. Gonna put some on and see what happens. If it absorbs in.. thats a go. I know its a hugely healthy oil.

Hi Rich,
Both borage and primrose oils work for me. I do like to use coconut oil on the rest of my body. But for me, coconut oil feels too heavy for my face. Your mileage may vary.
Most people on the forum here use coconut oil, so you may be like them and find coconut oil works great for our face.
It's all good. Coconut oil is more stable for being kept out of the fridge.
The borage and evening primrose oils I keep in the fridge.
All the best,
Elena

Hello Elena,
I've heard that primrose is more nutritionally complete (when consumed) than borage, and I have evening primrose gel capsules...so I'll open a few and try that one too. Sounds good.
Thank you,
PS. I just started putting the EPO in the fridge after reading your post. Thank you.
Am I the only person round here using raw honey for my skin?!
It's really great as a moisturiser if you put it on like a face mask and leave for 30 mins.
And I like to mix a bit with some crystal sugar and make an exfoliating scrub.. gentle of course because the sugar grains can be coarse and harsh but it works wonderfully :)

Thats all great stuff. Of course, being a guy, I am willing to go with an oil in the winter, however I'm not into face masks... if I was...well I live close to a producer of honey who has several hundred hives....and I believe in the power of raw honey... raw honey is a fabulous choice.
There is a certain wisdom to feeding on whats close by. So I eat lots of apples, blueberries and bee foods like raw honey and pollen thats in the honey. There is something about raw honey with the pollen in it. I add pollen to other foods, smoothies and so on. But the raw honey with pollen in it is special.
I'm off on a tangent, fact is tho....that raw honey on your face must be awesome...talk about feeding your skin !

Indeed it is! It really helped me heal up after a chemical burn sustained by something I had no business using on my face to begin with. I mixed it with aloe vera and ground-up oatmeal into a daily mask that I would leave on for a half-hour or so, followed by my shea butter-coconut oil combo that I still use as my face cream.
Even without the burn aspect, honey is a superb anti-bacterial and humectant(agent that attracts moisture)so it's great to use anytime as a mask, or mix in some with hair conditioner to use on one's hair.

I know one mistake that comes up during winter, is people start drinking less water or not getting enought water content foods. There seems to be that sense that if you are cold you don't need as much water. Not implying that you are not drinking enough but just a thought to throw out there.
I am a fan of raw honey on the face too. The new product I have has rose petals as well. Wonderful product. :)

I've used jojoba oil a lot in the past. Is that usually considered raw, or does it vary by brand?
