I've been raw for about 1 year now. My body has gained weight. The only thing I could think of was I started a detox & since then my body has majorly changed. As soon as I stopped it, my body wasn't nearly as bloated, but it doesn't seem to be normal. My pants are tight & things are fitting funny. Anyone else gone through this?

I wasn't sure if body's go through changes eating raw & if that's normal to gain after losing?

or....if maybe the detox stimulated something & had a reverse reaction?

I'm doing the master cleanse now, but was just curious if anyone else had similar experiences???

I've gained back 8 pounds since the end of summer. In my case it is from eating too much this past 3 months. And yeah, lots of salt. Stopping the gaining right now by doing an smoothie fast.

I heard Victoria Boutenko advice someone who wanted to gain weight that they should not eat any fat for a week. This would cleanse and heal the liver. She says a polluted liver is often the cause people don't gain weight. That might explain how someone could gain weight after a period of detox.

Good luck on the master cleanse. Hope you get the results you are looking for.

Thanks for responding guys!

Rawknitster- let me know how you do with weight loss from your smoothie fast. I'm curious! Typically losing weight is hard for me if I've gained for some unknown reason, so I'm hoping the MC will help out, it always does.

Katie P, I just heard the interview with Victoria Boutenko and she lost weight at first then gained. She says she will write a book called "Losing weight no raw the second time" (not sure if it was a joke).

Anyway she attributed it to nuts, salt, avos and also found she was eating too much and too late in the day.She has a particularly different metab and had to adjust out.

So adjust out, try diff things and see how you do.

My first time going Raw (2006), I lost weight and it stayed off. Then I went back on SAD (caved to peer pressure) and gained 20 lbs.

My second time going Raw (2008), I was 110 lbs and 5'5" (unconsciously anorexic for 6 months due to stress) and over a few months of High Raw, I gained 10 lbs! It was perfect! I got my curves back and looked healthy again. Then I went back and forth from mostly-Raw to mostly-SAD to back again, and my weight began to leap frog with me.

My third time going Raw, I took the 100% Plunge (50 Days ago today) and to date have lost 10 lbs, again. I don't need to lose weight (started at 120 lbs and 5'5" in October) but it wants to leave for now, so I'll let it.

My first thought was, DO you NEED to lose weight?

Are you "overweight" currently or are you listening to the Voice of our Society which demands all women look like skeletons with boobs? :D

If you LEGITIMATELY "need" to lose weight for health purposes, consider doing a Green Smoothie Feast for a few weeks to contribute to your body's continuous cleansing process.

Then, if you continue to make Green Smoothies a crucial part of your day (my best days/weeks/months are when I'm consuming MOSTLY Green Smoothie everyday! my fiance likewise agrees for his health, as well...) it will help you not only avoid cravings for heavier Raw foods, but also stabilize your weight.

Best wishes!!!

What are the reasons that green smoothies are particularly effective for losing weight?

Some of the effects of GS I have noticed in myself and in the many participants of past GS Challenges includes:

Increased energy levels/speeds up metabolism
Increased cleansing (sometimes helps folks who've had extreme blockage/constipation for a long time to regulate internally)
Regulates sleep patterns/better sleep overall
Makes the GREENS more efficient for your body because by blending them, you break down the cell walls and your body is able to directly absorb the many potent nutrients provided by dark, leafy GREENS
Increases/speeds up weight loss due greatly to the above factors, as well as helps fat to break down more rapidly and naturally...

There are SO MANY other positive benefits to Green Smoothies! I would strongly recommend reading GREEN FOR LIFE by Victoria Boutenko, as she charted the results on several people for her studies.

Thanks! Come to think of it I was eating later @ nite with heavier things like nuts.....so maybe that was the culprit afterall! I know the detox DID for sure make me bloated cause as soon as I stopped I felt alot better but still didn't feel right. ANYWAY maybe it is just a metabolism thing. So you think it will all balance out?

Skeletons with boobs....haha! So funny, but so true!

I DO need to lose weight, but mainly in my mid-section. Not a whole lot but I need to lose & tone, I just have a really hard time with it, but I know it will come.

What are the reasons that green smoothies are particularly effective for losing weight?

Once upon a time when I was counting calories I found that on a smoothie fast I was consuming 1000 calories a day or less. My normal raw days were around 1600-2000 calories.

Also when I'm smoothie fasting I don't add any fats. I've read at least one raw author that says to cut out fats to lose weight. (Please be aware that is a NOT good idea for anyone in transition or having trouble staying raw.) I'm not advocating counting calories or anything like that, but I guess I am saying calories and fats might count when gaining and losing weight for some of us, like me.

(For the record, I've been raw for 1 1/2 years, released 55 lbs, then gained back 8. Currently I'm at 176 lbs. Nowhere near an ideal body weight.)

Katie, I will let you know how it goes. Please let me know what the MC does for you. :)

How old are you green woman and where do you live? This just isn't true anymore where I'm at (chicago) curves are in and it's all about the booties and the boobs with DD and her friends - 8th graders and HS freshmen.

I was ultra thin in the 80's, but since the 90's I prefer a higher weight.

T-Bird, I'm glad you've found a place where curves are acceptable! :D

I have seen many women joyful about their heavy weight and their men that love it!

Katie P, it will all balance out, it will.

Thanks Rawrawks! Encouragement is always great! I have to remember how far I've come & that it just takes time. I'm sure one day it will just fall off & I'll be like...."wow, it just took patience & it happened"

Wow that's kind of cool T-Bird, nice to see that younger people are learning to have a healthier body image! I'm currently in NYC, by way of LA, and I can't imagine that ever happening in either city! Actually the women in NYC are a lot scrawnier than in LA, where at least people were exercising to be thin and not just living off of coffee and cigarettes

But it's cool, I'm kind of scrawny myself eating raw! LOL.
