What do I do with Coconut oil? Do I put it in a smoothie? On a salad? Anyone have any suggestions or good recipes that use coconut oil since I've heard it's so good for you?

Thanks!

Karen :)

You can certainly put it in smoothie. You can eat it straight. I'm not eating it anymore, but, when I did, I used it to make candies!!! Those and Alissa's goodies (fudge balls, date nut torte, etc.) are what helped get me through my sweet tooth that acted up for the first 6 months of being raw.

By the way, what are you looking to get out of coconut oil? I mean ... did you buy it because of the health benefits?

p.s. I now use it exclusively on my skin.

Yep, you can take it on a spoon, use it on your skin, use it on your hair, put it in raw desserts (not too much). Depending on the brand you have, the flavor may or may not be overbearing.

I have used a couple of brands that I just didn't like to consume (Nutiva and NOW brands though Nutiva tastes better...MUCH better than the Now brand), so those went exclusively for body/hair use.

But now I use the kind Alissa sells on her site, Virgin De Coco and that brand tastes wonderful! It makes my raw oatmeal taste like it has butter in it and it's great in my raw desserts!

Hi RawTruth and Rawkinlocs,

Thank you both for your answers. The reason I was interested was because I read somewhere that the health benefits of coconut oil were amazing, so I thought I'd try it. I'm only on Day 11 right now and I'm trying to introduce new foods everytime I go to the health food store. I'm mainly eating fruit and vegetables with the occassional nut, seed or oil. I really love this way of eating!

Thanks so much for your help!

Karen :)
