View Full Version : Smoozie Weekend ~ Anyone Up For It?
Revvell
11-27-2009, 07:35 AM
Beginning today, I'm going for a 3-day Smoozie (green smoothie) weekend. I AM adding salads ~ just greens and fruit/veggies... nothing dehydrated.
So, that will be today ~ Friday ~ Saturday and Sunday.
This is NOT a fast! It is a feast of the good! Supporting ourselves with the best food possible. Building our immune system with nutrition, movement and rest.
Oh! did I say movement? Yep! Add some movement to this. Our bodies are designed to MOVE! So, get down on the floor; get up. Simple enough, yes? Down and up. Get out and walk! Do some rebounding! Dance! You don't need to go to a gym to get in some movement!
Remember, our lymphatic system does not work w/out movement. The only pumps are our arms and legs, so, let's get MOOOOVING!
Whatchu going to do? :D

Did a couple of enemas then took a nice long shower.
Heading down a bit to finish a smoozie from yesterday; then going to make some more. I usually use fresh-squeezed oj, water or nut milk for my base.
bbiab! Join me! :)
Since I don't have a dehydrator, this is somewhat of a continuation of what I am doing...but no nuts,huh- except in the nut milk? All right. I can do it.
And in case you need something to help you get moving, turn up your speakers loud, stand up and listen to this...your body will BEG TO MOVE! LOL!

Enjoy.

Enjoy your dancing! As soon as my beloved husband wakes up I am gonna BLAST THIS VIDEO and DANCE TO IT OVER AND OVER! Love it!

I'm in! No nuts would be a good thing for me for a few days - had lots of raw thanksgiving foods yesterday with nuts, nut crusts, nut chunks, nut flour - well, you get the picture . . .
Thanks for the inspiration!

I am in too! Feeling gross, lethargic and in pain from yesterday (ate cooked veg at thanksgiving dinner)! Back to square one and really looking forward to just feeling better! Already told hubby smothies only for a few days, then I come see some lovely friend doing the same!
Today's will be a blueberry type smoothie, sounds good to me, but will be later in the day, still feeling too gross to eat anything yet. :-(
Movement will be a brisk walk in this cool CNY weather!

That's why I started with enemas. I rarely do them yet, was feeling bloated and yucky. Feeling better now! Time to get down and have my first smoozie of the day! Thanks for jumping in on this! :)

I'm with you. Day before yesterday I tested with one of my known allergen foods and screeech to a halt, still affected me, as it caused a temporary traffic jam. So I make a motion, or move, that I get in on this. In fact yesterday I consumed 2 qts of green smoovie and walked, day before-walked and ran, with other exercises thrown in both days.

On my second LARGE smoozie so far today. I'll probably do about 1/2 gallon along with some oj/water mix.
Got out a bit ago and swung a 20# kb; some 5# and 2# clubs; did some body movement and light ground engagement. Thinking I'll go out in a bit more and do some more. Maybe walk this evening.
I just polished a HUGE bowl of marinated greens, after a very large green smoothie earlier.
Did a little dancing around the house. Now- Laundry! Lift that barge! Tote that bale!
And then a walk this afternoon. I'm nursing this bulged disc at L5, so am taking it easy. This is the first day in weeks I haven't been popping Advil for it. Giving thanks.

Hi Revvell and you other Green Smoothie fans. I may as well join you here since I drink a lot of these anyway and that is all I have been having for the past couple of days. I am trying to get off coffee again by using the smoothies.
Today I juiced beets, carrots and cucumber and added this to blueberries, bananas, 2T ground flax seeds, and some swiss chard in the vita-mix. It was just right for the whole day. Usually I make far too much. Not this time.:D
This was a great idea Rev, since no one is on the "Challenge" at the moment.

Yes it was, thanks. It'll keep me motivated to behave myself.
I had the green smoothie to start with-------kale, frozen cherries, grapes, spirulina, slippery elm, coconut shreds, coconut milk, coconut kefir, dates, and aloe vera juice.
next meal, a bowl of mung bean sprouts with lime/evoo
dinner-large salad of cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, and sauerkraut, dressing was honey, mustard, olive oil, coconut vinegar, fennel flowers, rosemary, sea salt.
afternoon exercise was speedbag work on the bongo board, and squats on the same.
evening....a couple miles around the hood on the bicycle

Well, I'm too late for today, but definitely on board for the next 2 days! (And maybe I'll do it Monday, too.) My husband and I had some cooked food tonight. :( But tomorrow is a new day, and we've been doing pretty great. With the exception of tonight.
I'm also thinking about trying out some yoga tomorrow!

I noticed this thread this morning while drinking my green smoothie and thought "oh, yes!". I've just polished off my second quart of it (stinging nettles, kale, orange, banana, soaked dried apricots, and maca). Just returned from picking some chard at the community garden for a green soup (but that may not happen till tomorrow).
My pattern lately has been to have just fruit and smoothies till about 5 pm, then I snack on a mixture of raw foods plus one or two SAD foods I'm still waiting to be ready to give up. (One of them I refuse to have at home, so I have to go out and buy my daily ration, if I want it that badly.) I can give them up for three days.
Exercise? Oh, whine, that's harder! Okay, I'm just about to go do a few hours of yoga (after I wash that chard I just picked). Maybe I'll even also bounce a bit on the beautiful rebounder I bought a year ago and have barely used (after i first clear some junk off of it!).
Hey Pixie, I may continue with you on Monday.
Thanks for all you contribute here, Rev!

Been pretty darn good today. Just smoozies and water with oj. Might have some grapes later. Very energized! Thinking I'll be up and out walking early tomorrow. I've got enough smoozie left-over which I'll have in the a.m. after my walk and work-out. Then, make more! I usually make 1/2 gallon. So, this a.m. I had a large glass from the day before. Guess I'm drinking about 1/2 gal. per day ~ give-or-take ~ this weekend.
Not hungry. Not tempted by His food. We'll see how it goes! :)

I feel so much better after doing yoga. As soon as I started, my body said, "Yes!". I also meditated for 30 minutes (something I haven't been doing but want to start doing every day). So now it's too late to relieve my rebounder of all the stuff on it and bounce. I'll do it tomorrow, for sure.

I know this is day 1 for many of you ~ glad to have you!!!! If you feel as good tomorrow as I feel today....Yowza!!!
Woke up at midnight to go to the restroom. He was just going to bed. I'd slept about 2 hours. Had a bit of a time going back to sleep but once I did, slept straight through until 5 a.m. Most who know me know I spend a LOT of time up at night. Happy to wake up at 5. Was out the door for a walk by 5:30. WISH I'd remembered my pedometer as I walked quite a ways but, alas, it was sitting on my bureau rather than with the rest of my walking gear ~ pepper spray, knife, earmuffs, gloves, cell phone ~ so, it stayed home.
Didn't eat last evening. What I've decided for these next few days is to not eat anything that I wouldn't put in a smoozie. I don't put oil, spices, etc. in my smoozie so, if I'm going to eat a salad, I think maybe lemon juice or avo and lemon juice blended? That sounds good, yes?
What else you think?
Oh! We got some HUGE pomegranates. I'll have at least half of one this a.m.
Having my first smoozie of the day. Maybe about 12 oz. from yesterday. Going down in a bit to make my half-gallon for today and do some more training with clubs and kb's.
How's your day looking?

I made a big smoothie. It was about 24 oz. I couldn't finish it because they tend to make me nauseated. I'm not really sure why they make me feel this way? It's weird and annoying. I'll try another later when I get home.

How long does it take for you to drink it? I make a half gallon but I drink it throughout the day, usually in 16 oz. increments and one 16 oz glass will last at least 1/2 hour as I sip, not gulp.
What's in yours?

Oh I'm not a gulper. I've always thought it took me too long to drink one! I drink pretty slow. This morning I made one with spinach, a handful of cranberries, and 2 apples. It was really good, but after getting halfway through it I felt awful.
Maybe it's the consistency? Mine are never smooth because I don't have a good blender. They're always really chunky and thick.
Revvell
11-28-2009, 09:59 AM
Nahhh, that shouldn't matter, unless you're not chewing. Still, 24 oz. at one sitting seems a bit much. I'd cut it in half (which seems the most your body wants anyway, yes?) and take some to work (or wherever) or save it for lunch. Have you tried adding a banana? Will/does that make it easier? Maybe some digestive enzymes?

After doing exercises that focus on the arms and abs with kb along with warm-up and stretching afterward, made a smoothie with kale, celery, banana, cranberries, apple and added water. Will be making salad tonight to marinate overnight by one of my fav dressings that I haven't decided yet (no oils or nuts though). I may have cantaloupe, blueberries, or raspberries later today and another green smoothie later in noon time.
It's nice to take a break from nibbling on dried fruits, nuts, or seeds.
Have a nice smoozie day!! :)

Without getting too gross about...it didn't stay down long. :o I do chew a little. (Learned that from a Tim VanOrden video) Probably not enough though. That, and I think you're right about the amount. I think it was a bit too much. On a normal day, I only drink about 8-10 oz. So when I try another one, I'm going to go for a much smaller amount.
I have tried them with a banana a time or two, and now that you mention it, I don't think those particular smoothies have bothered me. It's really all trial and error with me. I have such a sensitive stomach! I can't even eat raw zucchini without getting sick. So, maybe it could've been the cranberries. This was my first experience with them. Hopefully it'll be better luck next time, because I definitely don't want to cut them out completely!
ETA: Digestive enzymes? I'm a little lost on that one...if you could possibly shed some light for me. (:
Thanks for your help, Revvell. :D

Hi everyone. Hope you are all having a great weekend.
Pixie- you are so strong. I think if anything made me sick - I'd be such a chicken to keep trying. I am 63 and haven't been sick to my stomach since my eldest son was 14 yrs old and now he is 43. So you are an inspiration to us all who struggle with one thing or another. :)
Revvell, your thread today about being possessive about our food intrigued me and I will try to get back to read it before I go to bed tonight.
Here are my smoozies so far for the day:
Cashew kream, ice, cacao, vanilla, agave, banana, Fo-Ti and Maca. Tasted great. But I am pretty sure it gets me too anxious - like caffeine. Maybe it is the Maca.
2nd. one: Cranberries, oranges, banana, 1/2 lemon with little bit of rind (don't know where I read about that!), frozen romaine and kale or swiss chard (I have to do a better job of labelling), spinach, coconut oil and something called "Truvia" (sweetener) which I want to use up. (not sure about this stuff - have to research it, I guess.)
Do any of you ever think that, even though your green smoothies taste good, they smell a bit like a swamp or a sewer? Sounds gross I know but that happens to me sometimes - maybe I am confusing this smell with a "cabbagey" smell, which would mean that the frozen greens also included collards from my garden.:D
Another question: I have been having a terrible time with another absolutely disgusting smell in my nostrils for what seems like a week - it smells like dirty skin - I think it is what we call BO. I check my skin and it seems to smell fine and I am keeping my hair especially clean as well as the rest of my body. Am I full of poison and is it detox maybe? It does seem to be more noticeable after I have spent a couple of weeks eating tons of junk "food" and drinking coffee. Any thoughts
You know what? I miss StarFire. Wish I could get some smileys like hers. They were so cute here. She has such a zest for life and is so caring. I thought she was coming back here. Maybe she still will.
Love you all, dear rawbies.

ETA: Digestive enzymes? I'm a little lost on that one...if you could possibly shed some light for me. (:
When someone's having digestion problems it could be any number of things including impacted colon so the thingies that help with digestion aren't functioning correctly. In that case, maybe colonics? OR weak digestive juices so, digestive enzymes might help. I know Alissa use to sell them. Don't know if she does now or not. Maybe do a search here and see if there are some others recommend?

Mine smell great but, I don't add stuffs to them like maca, etc. I keep mine very simple. Just fruit and greens or nut milk, fruit and greens. Not saying this is what anyone else "should" or shouldn't do... just what I do. I can't imagine freezing my greens. O.k., I'm imagining it. lol

Yeah, very possible it's detox. I've had nostril smell. Can't get away from it since it's in the nose. When I'm doing only smoozies and salad, my body smells like an herb garden. Might take awhile but you'll get there ~ maybe. :D

OR weak digestive juices so, digestive enzymes might help. I know Alissa use to sell them. Don't know if she does now or not. Maybe do a search here and see if there are some others recommend?
Ah, gotcha now! I'll definitely look more into it. Thanks so much.

Rev,
Pepper spray and knife! Nobody better mess with you!
I like your idea of only eating things you would put in a smoothie. I can do more than a few days with that as my guideline. :D
I slept till noon today! It felt great. Before I got out of bed I reminded myself this is a smoothie day. Made me smile. :)
Heading to the kitchen to blend now.

That be true. Many moons ago I use to deliver newspapers and had some minor confrontations with gang members. That's when I started carrying protection. As a martial artist I knew how to use a rolled-up newspaper as a weapon yet, didn't think it smart to carry a newspaper to a knife fight. ;)
At 5 a.m. when I usually go walking, they're usually sleeping. I stopped carrying protection for awhile ~ until a dog came after and bit me. I thought she was smiling at me. :D <<< --- see the teefs?
I like your idea of only eating things you would put in a smoothie. I can do more than a few days with that as my guideline. Well, that's just for now. We're going out for dinner this evening and I'm wondering if I'd ever put olives in a smoozie. ;)

Well, I didn't go to bed until 2:00am. My daughter is sleeping over at a friend's, and my husband was being quiet. My dog sleeps with her chin on my leg so she knows when I get up, but she never disburbs my sleep. It helped that the phone didn't ring, too. :)
I started out blending a pudding of papaya, banana, and pineapple. It tasted like babyfood. :p Instead of eating it I added spinach, parsley, kale, cranberries, a date, Vitamineral Green, and water. Made 24oz of good smoothie! I drank it all. :)

I just started working out with the kb. And sheesh!! There are muscles in my body that I wasn't aware of that I had!! It's nice, because it makes me feel like I'm making progression to be stronger and stronger as each day goes by. :D
What's a kb...ksomethingbat?
Good job! It's fun to hear one's body's response, yes? Last Monday as we were training, my body kept sighing in relief.
Thanks! :) Yes, that's what my body was doing...sighing in relief.
I watched some of your Youtube vids (several months ago) of you playing with your "toys". My little mind couldn't believe you were really having fun. Looked like work to me. A big part of my problem is that I've been trying to get my body moving on my own (which means I have to push myself too hard and it gets mechanical). But I finally got to a yoga class this past week (paid for by a work exchange), and I'm inspired now!
And now inspired again...I just watched the Scott Sonnon vid you two are talking about - wow! I'd love to have a teacher like him. And then I watched his vid on Prasara Yoga (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK6CGtViWg8) and noticed I just learned one of his moves in yoga class last week (from downward dog to backbend)...didn't think I could do it, but i could!
One step at a time. Maybe I'll get some vids in the future, or see who teaches something like that up here.

I recently got the idea to soak raisins and dried apricots for smoothies. They give the smoothie a nice tangy sweetness. Maybe they'd also do the same for a salad? Or maybe these are in the same category as your olives.
A plain avo/lemon dressing sounds very yummy to me. I'd do it, but I'm too lazy to make a salad! Maybe in a week or so... I like how my sense of taste gets sharpened when I cut out the heavy and strong foods.

It comes with wanting to feel. I use to train as a bodybuilder 4-6 hours a day, 5-7 days a week (depending on if/when my training partner showed.) Doing this makes my body happy. Going to get some more vids up soon.

Funny how the mind will try to stop us from doing things we already can do, eh? Sort of like our moms when we were kids. "No" was my mother's favorite word. My mind seems to have picked up on that. Taken some doing to get it to say "yes" more often than not.
One step at a time. Maybe I'll get some vids in the future, or see who teaches something like that up here.
You can learn the "ground engagement" moves just watching Scotts vids. I think #3 he begins showing the moves. Steve Cotter is another you may want to check out.
Enjoy!

I put dates in smoozies occasionally so, raisins will probably be eaten this evening ~ just not in the quantity I usually do. ;)
The restaurant we go to has a really decent salad bar. I can go raw all the way and although tempted, be satisfied.

The other day we went to Trader Joes. I use to get their lil packets of fresh pomegranate seeds but, they were selling them for $3.69 and the container (a really SMALL container) was only about half full. I liked not having to take the time (and mess) of getting them out of the container naturally made for them yet, wasn't going to pay THAT price.
Went to our favorite Armenian market at they had HUGE poms for $1.29 a pound. They had to way at least a pound - 2 pounds each. Well, I kept hearing to put them in water to get the seeds out and waddyaknow? It works!
Takes about 5 minutes or so. The lovely lil seeds sink to the bottom and the white stuff floats. Out of one pom I probably got 5-6 FULL boxes of poms ~ and yep! I'd put poms in my smoozie! :D

This morning I made one with spinach, a handful of cranberries, and 2 apples. It was really good, but after getting halfway through it I felt awful.
Maybe it's the consistency? Mine are never smooth because I don't have a good blender. They're always really chunky and thick.
I have tried them with a banana a time or two, and now that you mention it, I don't think those particular smoothies have bothered me. So, maybe it could've been the cranberries. This was my first experience with them.
I read something recently about cranberries and rhubarb not being good foods because of some toxin they contain (can't remember any more than that, tho). Maybe that's what your body is telling you.
When all I had was a not-so-good blender, I blended the harder-to-blend things first with lots of water, then added the rest to blend. Even with a VM, I find using just apples (and, I imagine, cranberries) as fruit gives a grainier consistency. So ya, like Revvell said: bananas (or avocado?).
Hi there!
I hope your day was great. Mine sure was!
I had:
a HUGE green smoothie for breakfast with:
spinach, romaine, banana, apple, pear and pineapple.( a bit too much sweet fruit for me...less tomorrow)
lunch was:
cucumber "coins" (alot) dipped into zucchini hummus (very little)
dinner was:
curried yam bisque (very little) and easy apple pie (very little)
I didn't have as much green smoothie as I was originally planning. Oh well. Tomorrow's another day! I felt much better yesterday when I had 2 green smoothies and a salad. Much more energy! I want that "raw high" back! I'm gonna go get it- tomorrow! :D
So 2 green smoothies: breakfast and lunch and then for dinner a huge salad tomorrow... that's the plan!

I'm calling this a successful smoothie day! After starting my day with a 24oz green smoothie I took my chips and pie (leftover from Thanksgiving) to my friends at RawVeganSource. I didn't want those raw goodies hanging around the house tempting me. No freezer is deep enough to hide that pie. While there I saw Revvell's book "Smoothies and Smoozies for Life", so I bought it. Very Cool! And inspirational!
Spent the evening visiting craft stores and stopping at a friend's house to see her Christmas tree. Each time I got back in the car I ate 3 (or more)dried figs from the bag I had bought at RawVeganSource. Dried figs could go in a smoothie, right? Of course they can. (According to Barry Ballister's book "Fruit and Vegetable Stand" it is a mysterious act of God and science that dried figs contain 4 to 5 times the nutrition of a fresh fig, although none of the succulence.)
Back at home I put the last cup of almond milk in the blender with dates, honey, and a load of frozen blueberries. Nummy! Though I'm still shivering. Brrr.
Looking forward to trying several of Revvel's smoothie and smoozie recipes tomorrow. :D

I've spent the past few hours watching Youtube vids (thanks, Rev!). And I didn't feel like a sloth sitting here cuz first I yogaed for about 1 1/2 hours and rebounded for 15 minutes (yay!) and meditated as well! Now I'm starting to feel better.
Rev, I used to run (many years ago) and remember how good it felt. I'm wondering whether your training feels similar to that. It looks like a good cardio workout, on top of strength. Plus maybe less chance of injury than running. ( I tried running again last year, but my knees hurt and my legs ached alot, so I had to stop...but I did too much too soon.)
I'm missing strength training...have never done it. Thanks so much for the inspiration and seeds planted! :)

Another day of smoothies and fruit finished. Oh ya, plus some very sweet carrots. My sense of taste is already sharper. Now that's a good reason to not eat anything SAD. That one SAD food I was eating (the one I forced myself to go out for every time I had to have it) was very harsh-tasting (but addictive).

Just finished my first smoothie of the day - one quart, and then I ate 2 oranges (was still hungry). One of the soaked dried apricots didn't make it into the blender cuz I ate it - so yummy, flavourful, sweet, meaty and still a bit chewy!
I'm still feeling tired and heavy when I first wake up (and don't manage to get myself up till about 11 am even though I want to be up by 8 or 9...but I do seem to need more sleep). But my energy picks up as the day goes on (especially after I've done some exercise). So it looks like a need for exercise, plus emotional stuff, plus borderline low iron and thyroid and menopause. My diet hasn't been all that bad, and I haven't always felt this way. But I think I've always been slow. It takes me a long time to make a smoothie. I don't want to even bother making anything else.
So...I'm on a good path. And really appreciating the company and support here. :)
Lara, thanks for reposting the Youtube link. Two days ago, that music was too upbeat for me to enjoy. But now I like it, and will bounce to it. I want to make it as easy as possible to use my rebounder so I'll use it more often. So I've found that my sports bra will fit on the outside of my clothes (too hard to bounce in my usual braless state, lol). It made me giggle to think that someone on the sidewalk outside might see me bouncing in my bra (there are no curtains on the top, so I'm visible when I'm bouncing, but can't see what I'm bouncing on). :D

Hi rawbies. Just thought I'd add what I had for supper. This thread is a bit like the "Challenge" isn't it.
Salad of cabbage, apple, raisins, coconut and walnuts to which I added Alissa's dressing on page 456 to which I added a bit of coconut oil, maple syrup, (Revvell's book has maple syrup listed as being good for atherosclerosis) and a touch of sea salt. Yummy and crunchy, sweet, sour, and salty. Made a real mess of my kitchen doing the cabbage - then a bigger mess making husband's supper. Sigh. His smells so good. Another sigh. Kb's are a GREAT workout. Thing is it really helps to have a good teacher. No video is going to look at you and correct your movements so that you receive the best benefits with most efficient movements.
I've been looking at vids others have suggested and YouTube videos and the two things I see in common are that they scrunch the neck rather than keep a head to coccyx alignment and the other is, they lift with their arms rather than hips.
If you're going to do this by yourself, please watch Zenkahuna's videos. REALLY check out the alignments and positions they use. Begin with a light weight ~ no more than 10#'s and do NOT use Everlast kb's. Ader is one of the best.

Thank you so much for all the great advice! :D I'll see what I can do to get some personal coaching at the beginning at least, and maybe a bit along the way. And great to know which kbs and vids are the best, and what not to copy on the other vids. It'll take me a little while. As I said, I'm slooow.
It must affect a person's self-concept and confidence to be strong. I'll find out.

Oh yeah. When you get your VM you'll be amazed. I make 1/2 gallon at a time; drink most of it throughout the day and keep a glass for the a.m. when I'm not ready to make more.
Best to fill the container so no excess air inside.
Wow that sounds great. What a time saver that must be!
I'm not sure how much the poms weigh when I buy them, but they're $2.49 each here.
The diet part I've been getting down pat pretty good. The exercise is my next goal. I've been sooo lazy lately. I've just been feeling icky, sluggish and unmotivated. My husband has the P90X videos, so we're going to get started on those sometime soon.

Oh yes! You might try local places like Craigslist, yard sales, etc. People purchase, use once or twice and eliminate. This would possibly be the best time.

I've checked craigslist a few times. Also the "iwanna." It's a local paper where people sale items they own. I'm definitely on the hunt for my cheap blender!

Green smoothie for breakfast.
then, this:

now to go make a green smoothie for dinner.
I am feeling like I'm detoxing a bit. My nose is running, I'm sneezing alot, and I feel a bit lower in the energy dept than I thought I would doing this smoozie weekend.
I think I'm going to continue this smoozie thing for a few more days to cleanse out some more. I feel very toxic.
Thanks Revvell, for getting me started on this. It was just what I needed to do as I've re-committed to 100% raw.

So far today I ate half a personal-size watermelon. I was going to blend it, but it was so good none made it into the blender.
Right now I'm enjoying a 32oz green smoothie. Parsley, red romaine, pear, apple, cranberries, dates, cinnamon. Very satisfying.
Putting some almonds up to soak for tomorrow.

I did my "usual" yoga/rebounding/meditation this evening. Do I ever feel good now! It's feeling better every day. This is a habit I want to keep. I've been addicted to running and meditation in the past, so could do the same with this.
Today I had 2 quarts of smoothie (stinging nettles, kale, oranges, soaked dried apricots, bananas, maca), 3 or 4 oranges, a banana or two, and a simple fruit salad (one apple, some soaked dried raisins with the soaking water, and a tiny bit of cinnamon) that tasted so good (easy apple pie!).
Rev, I also appreciate your getting us started...thank you! It helps me alot right now to be accountable for exercising. I appreciate doing this with all of yous! :)
I'm smoozing again tomorrow, and probably after that as well. It's making it easier to exercise. :)

Did really well yesterday.
Smoozie all day and a "cole slaw" for lunch ~ shredded cabbage (red and white), shredded carrots, tomato, avo and 3 tsps. of pomegranate seeds. Meyer lemon squeezed over the top.
The rest of the persimmon some time later.
More smoozie.
A bowl of lettuce later and a 16 oz glass of 3/4 water, 1/4 oj.
My feet began cramping. Can't understand why. Then, my right calf. Sheesh did THAT hurt! Looked up all the reasons that could be.
Lack of calcium? How? Well, today I'll pick up some figs yet, all I'm eating/drinking's GOT to have calcium.
Other nutrients? How is that possible?
Dehydration? Gotta be kidding.
Lack of movement?
Yesterday went out and swung the heavy rope, 30 times in each direction; did the kb walk up the driveway using a 25# kb ~ 30 swings; double-handed the 15# clubbell; did some ground engagement and "stretching out all over". I will be doing Qigong for Cleansing with Francesco Garripoli and Daisy Lee Garripoli DVD after I type this up. Never done it before, supposed to be really healing for the body. It states that it improves one's Qi (energy) which rejuvenates the entire body. It's a very gentle and yet powerful practice that flushes out toxins and strenghtens every cell and organ in the body. This is what I'm reading on the back of the DVD here. I could go on, this is just to give you an idea of what it is. The defintion of Qigong is an ancient Chinese system of postures, exercises, breathing techniques, and meditations to improve one's qi/chi (energy field). Sounds good to me, so I'm going to try this for awhile. :)

If I tell my husband he has to wait also, he might whoop me, so guess he'll eat them for dinner and I'll have them for lunch tomorrow.
This morning I had to eat on the go...no time at all to make a smoothie. I grabbed 2 apples and a banana. Now I'm sipping on a smoothie. Kale, grapes, blueberries and a handful of frozen mixed berries (mostly strawberries and raspberries). It sure is ugly, but tastes so good. You guys make some wild sounding smoothies. I tried nut mylk a few days ago. I had some walnut mylk leftover from making Eva's stuffing, so I used it up in smoothies and I really liked the outcome. Before when I had mylk, I didn't have a clue what to do with it, but I've got it figured out now. You have to be creative with raw!

Hi everyone! There are some pretty great posts here this morning. Nice to see the enthusiasm hasn't waned for you all (for the smoozies!).
Yes, my smoothies are pretty weird, I know. I guess that is because I am p determined to get the most goodies I can into them as I am usually just too busy to bother with much else - or too tired. But I am getting my energy back.
Cramping -funny you should mention it Revvell. I had one in my calf - one was that "threatening" a lot on Saturday and I was hoping the same thing - that it wouldn't "grab" me in the middle of the night. Those things are so painful. I am pretty sure that I learned a few years ago that 2Tbsp of brown (unhulled) sesame seeds are a powerhouse of calcium and that this would help. If I get a chance, I will look it up. That's an easy way to get it.
My GS today consisted of lots of red pepper, a zucchini, ground flax seed, cinnamon, coconut oil, water and several apples. It was good. I attribute my being able to down many things to my Mum who always made us eat everything she made for us whether we liked it or not. This isn't necessarily what I'd do, but it did build in me an appreciation for the tremendous variety of food we have been blessed with on the planet.
Went for a 20 minute walk this morning.
Have a great day all.
Sue.

I had a number of bouts with L5 disc herniation about 12 - 13 years ago. I was being threatened with surgery. Then I read a book by Robin McKenzie and started doing the simple things he recommends, and haven't had another back episode since (just a few warning twinges, cuz I sometimes get lax about it, even though it doesn't take that much effort). His concept is that we have to keep the natural curvature in our lower back (and most chairs don't support it). He says most people improve with his simple methods. Sad that my physio and doctor didn't know about this, and were instead threatening me with surgery if i didn't get off my feet. I just looked, and my library has a few of his books right now (the names of the books keep changing, so best to look up his name).

I imagine you gals know about vitamin C facilitating absorption of calcium (and iron)? And that some foods (like spinach and chard) inhibit it?
I've been using mostly stinging nettles for greens in my smoothies for the past several weeks because they're so rich in minerals (and vitamins). Best of all, I get them for free from local parks/forests! :D I'm going out this afternoon to find more (but it's close to the end of their season). I read that spring is the best time to harvest them, but also read in a few places that fall is also okay. As long as it's fresh growth on the tips of nonflowering plants. And ya, use gloves!
Looking forward to more vids, Rev! I couldn't find any ground engagement ones by the person you mentioned. I feel kinda old sometimes when I creak up from the ground. :(
K, where are those nettles?
Thanks for the info! I will check it out. I'm a retired chiropractor (I'm young only 40...but I burnt myself out and didn't take care of myself...the irony is not lost on me! ;)
so new info is welcome. I am getting really good adjustments which are helping but it's slow. Not that I'm surprised. It took me years to get this way.

Finished eating for the day. I finished off this morning's smoothie around 4 p.m. and then had last night's leftover cabbage salad as well as a fresh salad with acv and evo, some sea salt and some olives. The two side-by-side? Yummo.
Felt great all day considering I got all of about 4 hours of sleep last night:eek: And that must make about 3 near sleepless nights this week.
Yes, I have done lots of sneezing today too and blowing and tongue is just a a bit white on each edge - must be detox.

Had another fruit smoothie this afternoon. "Fig it Up!" on page 21 of Revvell's book. DELICIOUS!!! :)
Haven't had anything green yet today. Don't know what is for dinner, but there will be a big bunch of greens in it.

I'm done for the day!! I drank Green smoothies for the first half of the day, then my body didn't want it anymore. I ate a lot of bananas for the second half of the day along with an apple. They were the best bananas I ever had! :)
Did Qigong this morning, it's very peaceful and it just seem like it made me feel more focus. All day I felt like I was ahead of everything, as if everything else was in slow motion. Interesting day. It does feel like a pretty powerful exercise. I think I may just ease into this type of exercise slowly.
I started the morning off early with a fruit smoothie, "Revvel's Other Favorite" from page 16. Got my husband to drink it, too! Apparently the secret is simply handing him a glassful, rather than asking him if he wants some.
Did you hear me laugh at that? Hmm. I KNOW if I put a glass on his desk, He'll drink it. Now, why didn't I think of that?
This made me laugh too!!
Hi everyone! There are some pretty great posts here this morning. Nice to see the enthusiasm hasn't waned for you all (for the smoozies!).
Sue.
Hey! Yeah, felt I could keep going today!! And I did! Whoo! What a day!!
Thanks for a great 3-day weekend Revvell - I feel really good!
Yeah, I feel really good too!! Thanks Revvell!!! :)

Hi, everyone, I am doing smoothies for a few days, so i will join in. Wanted to get rid of some of the Thanksgiving bloat. I fasted till this evening and now am finishing off a DELICIOUS smoothie that someone posted here recently. it has 4 apples, a cup of cranberries, a bunch of kale, and some ginger. I also added some cinnamon. It RAWKS!
Revell, does your book have recipes for savory smoothies as well as fruity ones? I am wanting to do Gabriel Cousens' phase one for awhile in January, and that means no sweet fruit. I get tired of the tomato avocado but need some ideas!

Probably not enough. Mostly fruit-based; only a few that aren't.

I ended my third day with a salad of red romaine and a blended dressing. The dressing was made with a base of cucumber and avocado; oil-free, but not fat free. I could have blended the greens with the dressing and called it a smoothie, but I wanted to chew. Topped the salad with pomogranate seeds for some crunch.
Feeling really clean today. Looking forward to another great day tomorrow. :)

It is so amazing how you learn to listen to what your body is trying to tell you.:D Thank you for this thread Revvell.
I still had a big smoothie this morning and boy is it ever delicious!
Water, ice, cashew kreme, lots of banana, vanilla, cacao and raspberries. Yum! (watch me lick my lips :D)

You're welcome! Glad you joined in. Seems a few are going to continue on ~ myself as well. Just purchased a HUGE bag of greens plus dandelion greens; a bunch of bananas and a variety of fruit so, I'm continuing to smooze along. :D

I continued on with the smoozies and salads, and then yesterday was a water fast. I actually had done smoothie and salad on thanksgiving so it was like I was in for four days. I need to get more kale, but picked enough mustard greens and lettuces out of my garden to get me through a few more days of this, so I will continue on again. I just need to decide how long to fast. I'd like to do one day as a weekly thing. I think I could benefit from that greatly. This also kept me motivated to work out more. I did until yesterdays fast. It was mostly speedbag and balance work with a little calisthenics thrown in.
What I have been doing with the smoothies is to make a double batch and seperate it into halves before adding the iced goods. Makes it easier while all the ingredients are out, cleaning the processor, etc. Then when the second drink is wanted, (it is already in a bullet jar with lid) just add some frozen apple bits that were prepared ahead also. I chop up a few apples and pour a lemon, lime, or an oranges juice over them in a baggie and freeze.
Thanks for the encouragement to do this Revvell, and all the others. It has certainly helped me feel well.

I sure did. Raw is really doing my body good. No cramping from IBS in the last 10 days I've been doing raw. And this smoozie weekened was just what I needed. I'm definitely going to continue on with the smoothies now that I've gotten in the groove. Gotta have my daily green smoothie now!

Hi, everyone, day 2 for me. I worked the early shift this morning and packed up two big bottles of smoothie to take with me. The first one was apples, cranberries, spinach, ginger and cinnamon. Delicious! The second one was kale and bananas.
In my crockpot, I have some sweet potato soup warming up on the "warm" setting. I am so glad to have found out about this. It is COLD here, we got snow this morning, and I am tired and aching from my run yesterday, so warm soup sounds so good. I made it up from what I had on hand and it has sweet potatoes, onion, zucchini, nutritional yeast, and seasonings. It is pretty good.

I have an eensy weensy crock pot... you can warm soups in that without cooking?? Mine is the mini-variety... used to use it to cook beans/rice before I figured out both of those were giving me major allergies to LIFE as well as headaches... :)

Mine is a 1.5 quart one that I just bought at Target for $10. It has a WARM setting. yu can' use low or hi, that will cook the food. But warm gets it nice and.....warm. I am testing my small one right now. In 1.25 hours it got it to 100 degrees. My big one (the soup is in that one) takes 2 hours to get to 100.

Glad you've been smoozing and moving along with us, streetsurfer. :) I'm still picking a few things from my garden as well. It's a bit of a downer to go from those to the store greens that ya gotta pay for (especially the ones that are wilted and abused-looking!). But it's nice to have a break from all that work in the garden.
I felt so good after my 20 minute rebounding session last night (which was after 2 hours of yoga). Laying there, I felt my whole body tingling and alive. And I'm finally starting to feel better in the morning as well. I'm hoping this will start giving me more energy so I can do more because, right now, I'm not getting much else done. For the next 2 weekends, I'll have time to cut down on the 2 1/4 hours/day of exercise because I'll be in a 10am - 5pm retreat. I'll just do as much as I can. Continuity is more important than all-or-nothing.
I was going to put a persimmon in my smoothie today but it tasted so good by itself that I ate it as it was. It seemed the flavour would be lost in a smoothie. My smoothies have been too bland lately. I found some purple grapes in the freezer this morning that made a yummy one (along with the oranges, banana, and greens).

I have Victoria Boutenko's Green Smoothie Revolution from the library. It has a whole chapterful of interesting-looking savory green smoothie/soup recipes, most of which have no fruit at all. Some of the recipes from the book are on the raw family website. (Would love to get your smoozie book as well, Rev, but that will have to wait till I have more pennies.)
I'd like to try a fruitless green smoothie feast sometime, to see how it feels. But, for now, I'm just gathering up my courage to try my first savory smoothie.

Had a 2 smoothie day. I also made a jar of chia seed pudding. (The ingredients in the pudding would make a fine smoothie.) I may not eat it tonight, (I'm kidding) but after grazing off-smoothie late last night I want to have a little something special ready in case I find myself in the kitchen searching. I'm counting today as a successful smoothie day. :)
That is 3 out of 4 successfull days for me. I'm calling it a good weekend. Will continue on, but from here it is one day at a time.
yes it's one day at a time AND I'm loving it.
I'm still detoxing BIG TIME. Runny nose, sneezing, pimples (I never get acne), lethargic, energized, happy, sad, all the extremes of detox. So I'm going to continue with my smoozie fest this week, me thinks.
I just drank 2/3 of a Vitamix full of green smoothie. Salad for lunch, perhaps.
then smoothie for dinner.
If you have any recommendations for moving this detox along as quickly and healthfully as possible that have worked for you, please share. I will also do a search here on this forum for that info.
Peace out,
Lara
