Hi There,

After pondering many different options, I have finally decided to purchase Alissa's book, and commit to the raw-vegan lifestyle. I am 24 years old, 5'2", 136 lbs, and looking to be about 110.

The past year has caused me a lot of stress, leading me to unhealthy eating choices. My skin breaks out more often, I am more tired, less active, and less likely to participate in social activities.

My 'thing' is rock climbing. I love it. It is a motivating factor behind losing weight, but it is also what sometimes leads me to over-eating habits. When I climb, I don't feel guilty about eating two slices of cake or two servings of pasta, but really, I should be more conscious of these things.

My goal by starting the raw diet is to both lose weight, but also just to become a more healthy person. I don't want to have 'food comas' anymore. I want to feel awake, alert, and ready for my next adventure.

I have bought the book, but of course, I have to wait for it to arrive. I want to get started ASAP, but am unsure of what my diet should consist of. I am nervous of starting without getting the appropriate intake of vitamins and things. Could anyone help me out by giving me a sample menu for my first couple of days? A couple of useful things to get at the grocery store?

Thanks!

Welcome. What you are asking for is all OVER this forum!

I'd suggest you go around to either a farmers' market or the produce section of your fave grocery store and look around. Find what looks good to you; what smells good, what entices you to eat it. Purchase; get started.

Also, there are threads all over here about green smoothies. Might pick up some recipes there if you've got a decent blender. (AND, there's threads here about which of those to look for if you don't.)

Basically, eating raw is simple (although not always easy). Find fresh produce you like ~ fruit, veggies, greens, seeds and nuts ~ play with your food and enjoy!

Welcome! :)

When I climb, I don't feel guilty about eating two slices of cake or two servings of pasta, but really, I should be more conscious of these things.

You can eat those things, just in raw vegan form. When you discover that you can replace everything with delicious, healthy foods, you'll never eat any other way.

All good advice above. You can just start with fresh produce, or even a water or juice fast until your book arrives. That will give you some good cleaning up before continuing. I began with a water fast, then fruit, then green smoothies. I still enjoy the green or fruit smoothies often, and lots of salads. Some other things you can search for are kale chips or crisps (a forum favorite), flax crackers, cashew creme or berries to top sprouted garbonzo granola, and sprouts are always an easy thing to start with. I'll often eat a bowl of mung bean sprouts with lemon juice and a touch of oil on them and be satisfied. Best wishes to you and welcome aboard.
