View Full Version : Juice fast NOVEMBER

Hi everyone,

I know there are already a few threads here about juice fasting, but I decided to start a new one, for everyone that wants to join this month...

Today is my first day, for lunch I had OJ of 4 oranges and some cuke juice (my mom couldn't use it in one of her recipes).

I have a question: do you only drink juice when feeling hungry of faint or do you drink a lot, just to make sure you get all the stuff you need? (how many glasses or liter per day?) Tx!

I will also write about the fast in my journal, check it out!

btw: I'm feeling a bit dizzy... maybe I should go and juice a bit more, right?!

Everyone else welcome!

Here's another question:
can you go by with just the sweet juices? Or would you advise to juice veggies as well? I went to the store to stock up on fruits and veggies, so I'll make both, but I suppose it's not 'bad' to drink sweet juice all day long, and the next day maybe also drink some veggie juice... right?
Tx for answering!

Anybody wants to join me? It's awfully quiet in my thread... :o

Hi Jay,
I am also starting a 2 week juice fast. I am stickly going to use O.J. though. I am following a plan from the garden diet. Only, I am also going to supplement with wheatgrass to speed up detox. So just o.j. and WG for me for the next 14 days! Good luck with your juicing!

Hi RawJoJo!

Welcome to this thread! I'm so glad I'm not the only one doing a juice fast, it's definitely a bit easier if we can do this together and support each other, right?
I'm going to juice all fruits and veggies that can be juiced, I'm afraid I might get bored drinking only OJ, but I'm interested to see how you will do, so keep posting, I've got my two thumbs up for you! Maybe I'll do only OJ another time, we'll see.
I didn't say yet for how many days I plan to fast, because I don't know... I'll try to do this as long as I feel the need to do it, but when I can't anymore, I'll break my fast with solid fruits again...

I don't suppose bananas can be juiced, right? :p

Hi Jay,

I would recommend that if its your first juice fast, don't worry about how much you drink. In other words, drink as much as you want. I drank a couple of gallons (literally) a day for like the first 3 days. The first time I did a 14 day juice fast I did it with only OJ. I later did a 30 day one with fruit juices in the morning and evening and veggie juices in the afternoon. I just finished a 6 day fast with mostly fruit juices (I enjoy them the most). Banana is not really for a juice fast because its heavy in fiber. The object is to only have liquid. But I am sure it won't hurt anyways :D . The key thing is to make sure you are full so that hunger wont stop the fast. After that the biggest issue would be missing the taste and feel of foodin your mouth. But once there are no hunger issues, that is easier to deal with.

Todd,

thank you so much for answering my questions! I was kinda hoping you would read this thread and give your opinion, it's highly appreciated! :D

I drank some veggie juice in the evening yesterday. I think I will just make what I am in the mood for, I juiced and juiced a lot this afternoon, and have about three liters of fruit-juice now, I can't believe how good it tastes! I already love love love my champion!!

I slept a lot last night, although I did wake up around 4:30 and was awake for about 2 hours. But after that I had a good night sleep.
I still feel great!
tx again for your post Todd!

I'm not sure about the frozen juice on a fast...I'd "think" it'd be best to have the freshest possible juice...but I could be wrong.

But what I wanted to say also is, I LOVE that name "Icey pole"...sounds so cute and "different"...is that the same as what we in America call "Popscicles"?

It's day three for me and all is going well!
I thought day three would be hard, but it wasn't!!

I juiced about 4 liters of juice today, whoa!! I was busy for more than 2 hours, juicing juicing juicing, lol! :D
I made two bottles with fruit juice (apple/pear) and two bottles with veggie juice (carrots, red bell pepper, 1 cuke, 1 sweet potato, 2 toms, a bit of leafy greens, a lot of radishes and 5 stalks (sp?) of celery)

I drank about half a L. of fruitjuice today, and for dinner almost 1 L. veggie juice... I'm officially full ladies and gentlemen! :D

All the fruit I purchased on saturday is already gone or juiced up in a bottle, so that means more shopping for me tomorrow!

Take care!

Hi Jay!
As I promised on Saturday, I too have started my 14 day O.J. fast. Today I have had about 1 1/2 liters so far. I will do some more juicing when I get home form work. I really like to run it through my juicers as opposed to hand juicing. It is so much more creamy. Like an Orange Julius (if anyone can remember those)! Anyhow this is day 2 and I have a slight headache. I plan on going home after work and taking a long hot bath and a nap. Hopefully it will work out that way! I am still a little tired today. Hopefully, like Todd said, that after day three it much easier.

Hi everyone,

wow, a lot of replies, cooool!!

Hi Tamara, of course it's still part of your 30days challenge if you mix in a couple of days of juicefasting, as long as it's raw, it's part of the challenge!
I'm glad you'll be joining us soon!
As for the losing weight... I hope so  I'll keep you updated on that, ok?

Hi RawJoJo, glad everything's working okay for you too, I haven't experienced any headaches (yet?) but sometimes I do feel a little dizzy... but then i drink some juice and I'm good to go again!
I don't feel weak or anything, if only I knew, I would have done this fast a lot quicker in my transitioning period! :D

Thank you so much Todd for the encouraging words, you've just put a huge smile on my face, like this: :D lol!

Take care everyone, it's almost time for bed here, talk to you tomorrow!

Just so you know, I took my children bowling tonight & they had 100% orange juice at the alley (the label said oranges & water, but I'm not too certain of it's rawness). Anyway, while the kiddies had pizza & soda I sipped on my juice & honestly wasn't even tempted by their cooked fare!
But I do have a question for RawJoJo ... is there a specific reasoning behind only oj fasting? Just curious as I am new to all of this.

Hi everyone!!! OJ for me all day today!!! NO coffe or soda (I am so proud of me)..My 1st day of juicing was all about me. I relaxed and pampered myself. I had to run a few errands, and found myself picking up more oranges at the farmers market, so on the way home, I made a hole in the orange to drink the juice (lol)...

J, you mentioned not all organic in another thread, and I am glad to see that, not because I dont want all organic but it is VERY difficult to find where I am...so I feel that what I am doing now is better than nothing at all!!!

Jay
11-09-2004, 05:30 AM
Hi glad2beme,

yeah, in the thread Tanja_swe wrote she asked if she should put some more money aside now for when she's going to juicefast in a couple of weeks...
It's true though, I think it does cost more when you juice than when you eat the fruit as it is. I don't eat that much f/v, but when I juice, oh my, before you know it you just drank like 10 apples!!
I'm all for the organic produce, but with a small budget, it's just not possible all the time, I'm afraid...
so yeah, better non-organic than nothing at all...

Take care!

Oh! and I was lol when you said you made a hole in the orange and drank it, in your car!! LOL LOL!

Hi everyone,

there's something I want to add, that I noticed in my skin...
Before I started the juicefast, 4 days ago now, I had already a few spots/zits/pimples/acne here and there on my face. Now I'm 25 going on 26 soon, so you'd think the time is right for the spots to finally GO and leave my face alone! But nope, I was wrong, oh boy how wrong I was!! Every day since starting this juicefast, there have been more and more spots on my face! It's just plain horrible! I'm even afraid to walk out of the door without covering them up a bit :( I can't believe all the toxins chose my face as the perfect getaway :( :( :(

I just HOPE they will be gone soon, because my granny is having her 80th birthday in 11 days, and it's going to be a big party with loads of guests and family, and I can't turn up the way I look now, I look 17 all over again, <snif snif> (where's the 'crying' smilie when you need it?!?)

anyways, you see that it's not always fun being raw... detox s*cks!

:( Joke

I'm sorry to hear that it's your face that suffers... but believe you me when I say that the other end is not much better! ;) My butt is SO painful at the moment! It's not even funny .... I've never had a spot/blemish or whatever they're called on my butt before but now... oh my and they're HUGE. Sorry for being so graphic but even though it's gross it's a little bit fascinating too... I guess I had a lot of not wanted stuff down there :o

Jay
11-09-2004, 06:00 AM
Hi Tanja,

god, that's right, spots on your butt, now that's not nice either of course, but rather on my butt, where nobody can see them but me, than on my face... at least that's how I think about it...
I'm sorry you're feeling the same, but I'm glad I'm not alone in this :o

I hope they will go away soon!!

dont know if this will help you or not..but here goes, I clean my face with fruits and stuff like honey and lemons, the lemons seem to really make my face better.....sometimes I mash bananas for a facial, lol...anyway there you go (yes I can be weird and take things to the extreme) but I have fun doing it, and I dont spend $50 at the department store for their stuff.

Hi Veganwannabe!

To answer your question about the O.J. ~ I am following "The Garden Diet" Orange Juice Diet for 2 weeks. It just involves drinking orange juice. As much as you need. Oranges are the perfect fruit. They have all of what you need to replenish your body. Also, I wanted to speed up my detoxing which has been going on (slowly) for quite some time so I decided an o.j. fast along with some wheatgrass will really push me through this time. So far it seems to be working. I am already feeling better today and it's only day 3. Really the only detoxing symptom that I am having is a headache and a salt craving. I do agree, however, that usually you shouldn't incorporate wheatgrass into this plan (because it's such a quick detox agent) but for myself i feel it is okay because I have been using WG for a long time and am feeling okay taking it.

You can check out this link to learn more on the o.j. diet.

Have a great day!

Hahahaha Tanja, you crack me up!! :D

Glad2beme,

can you explane a bit more about your natural products? How much of what do you use?

I've bought a washinggel and moisturiser from the brand Lavera, both of the products are for 'young faces' which means with spots and stuff, but it's kinda drying my skin, so on my cheeks, that are spotfree, I use the normal moisturiser of Lavera... I think it is supposed to by drying your skin though, so the spots dry and you know, vanish... I think that lemonjuice works a bit the same, no?

thanks anyways for your post, I can't wait to try your 'recipes'! :D

Hi J, I dont use any certain amount of anything but I forgot to add that I just read about light wetting a seaweed sheet and applying to your face its suppose to pull out the junk in your face...suppose to just dampen it put it on your face like a mask let it dry and peel it off....as far as the other things I have tried I just squeeze a lemon and use a cotton ball to use as an astringent, etc...just enough to cover the face is all, no real recipe...do a search on the net for lots of ideas...

Jay
11-09-2004, 08:14 AM
Thanks Glad,

I'm definitely going to try the lemon!
Not sure about the seaweed sheet, they are quite expensive and don't they smell like fish? I don't want to smell like fish.. :o Have you tried that yet?

Hi again Joke & Glad2beme!
I need your serious thoughts on this ...
First is confession time: and please don't get me wrong, as I am not blaming raw food b/c I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was my own lack of discipline ... now onward ... today from 3:00 to 3:30 I completely blew it & had a major binge :( To top it off, none of it was even remotely healthy ... not even vegan ... nothing living! Pure junk & even some animal ...ergh! I don't even like the taste of meat, but I caved anyway. So here's what I was thinking .... as of 3:30 today I began a 100% juice fast. I feel as though it will be the quickest way to detox and get rid of all of these wacky cravings that I have had (and given into) today. My biggest concern is if it is too soon ... is there even such a thing? I am open to any input. Tonight I will probably completely abstain from anything as the garbage I ate earlier has made me naucious. However, fasting or not, I am back on the raw train already & hopefully this time I will not falter.

Jay
11-09-2004, 04:25 PM
Hey Tamara,

wow, it takes a lot of courage to admit you sliped and binged on some junk! It's not easy staying raw, I think everyone has experienced such moments several times, at least I have... the best thing to do is to jump back on the raw wagon... If you are feeling bad because of the food you had before, maybe it's indeed, like you said, better to don't eat anything or at least nothing heavy, but that's just what I would do, I'm not experienced in raw food, I'm still learning myself...
I suppose it's okay starting a juicefast tomorrow, heck, the day before I started, 4 days ago, I had some bread and cheese as well, and because I was feeling SO bad that evening (you know the signs: bloated, headache, feeling miserable) I decided then and there that the day after I would start my juicefast! And I'm so glad I'm still holding strong! Thank god I don't have a family to cook for like some of you do, but my parents are still eating cooked, and I know it's hard and tempting to see their delicious food (I admit, it still looks and smells great!) but I know I'm better off eating raw.

In my life (and I'm only 25) I've always struggled with my weight, I've kept gaining and then losing some again just to gain some more... I know that I have to be carefull with what I eat, but sometimes it's just too hard! You see other people enjoying their meal or their junk, and you crave it so bad!
But I've done enough harm to my body, I told myself, before I started out with raw, this is the last time I'm doing something to lose weight and become healthy again, I'm so fed up with all the failures, so this time, I went for it, once and for all, I'm pulling through, I can do this, I have to do this, if I want to feel good about myself again. And don't get me wrong, I still like lots of cooked food, but I tell myself I can live without it, and sometimes I crack, and allow some non-raw, but I feel so bad afterwards, physically, that I know I need to take care of myself, my body. It's the only one I have, and I have to treasure it!

So to sum it up: I think it's a good thing to get back on track Tamara, and start juicing tomorrow, but just to be on the safe side, maybe you can ask Todd or Alissa in a private message, as I'm not sure if they read this thread frequently...

All my best,
Joke

You are very welcome, :)

I'm sure Alissa will give you some great advice!

I'm sorry your tummy is still hurting, isn't it amazing how fast your body gets used to the raw and instantly reacts with bloating and pain when you allow cooked food or junk back into your life?
It still amazes me, before raw, my tummy wouldn't get upset that easily, maybe also because I still payed attention to what I ate, but I would never have this huge reactions to a bit of cooked food, and now, post-raw, my stomach gets upset so quickly...

Talk to you later!
J.

11-10-2004, 07:06 AM
Hi everyone,

today is day 5 for me, and I just spend two full hours juicing!!
I juiced 2 kilo grapes, which made about 1,5 liter grapejuice, and Oh my, that tastes so gooood! I thought because of the many seeds in the grapes, it would not taste that good, but I was wrong! It was really yummie, and I had my mom taste and she tasted a hint of banana, although it was pure grapejuice!
After that, I juiced some more apples and pears, which made about 1,5 liter of juice, so yeah, it's amazing how much more food you consume when you juice! But I suppose that's a good thing, because I kind of got fed up with some types of fruit and veggies, I also haven't received Alissa's book yet, so I didn't have enough inspiration, so juicing was actually a good way to bring some variety in my eating habits...
well, I'm off, gotta clean the juicer, and then I'm gonna clean the house a bit...
talk to you later, my juice buddies :D

Hey Todd,

thank you so much!
I do feel better if I compare today to day 1. Although I still need a lot of sleep, I have more energy and generally feel better with myself. I'm proud of myself that I got to day 5 and that I can continue with juicefasting. And I'm just LOVING the juice I'm making, lol! It's so sweet and rich, a juicy kinda smoothie, de-licious! :D

My skin hasn't cleared up yet sadely... but I know I have lots to toxics in my body, so the sooner they are out of my body, the better! Although that a waterfast might speed up that process, but I don't think I'll be able to do a waterfast for a long time, I'll probably get so weak, not so with juicefasting.

Thanks again!

Hey everyone,

Okay Tamara (VWB), that's cool! I don't know if I'll still be juicing when you join, but no matter what, I'll be cheering you on and supporting :D
Thanks for being here to cheer me on as well :)

Well day 6 already, pfhew!
it's already 3:40 pm here (afternoon) and I juiced so many oranges today! It made 1,5 liter (51 oz) of OJ! Very very tasty! I drank already 2/3 of it, afterwards I'll drink the rest of the juice from yesterday, so I can make fresh juice tomorrow.

Oh yeah, Tamara, you wanted to know how much weight you can lose with juicefasting, right?
well, since I started, 6 days ago, I already lost 1,3 kilos (2.86 pounds), not that much, but it's coming off, so I'm glad :) It always takes a long time for me to lose weight, so this is in my case, I don't know how it will go with you...

Hi Joke!
You are doing awesome! Almost 3 pounds in 6 days is very impressive to me. It seems to take me forever to lose weight, although I can put it back on overnight :(
These last two days have been hideous for me... only about 50% raw ...ergh! BUT >>>> I'm back on track. Hopefully I have learned my lesson?! You wouldn't believe how naucious I was again last night. yuk. TODAY I START WITH A CLEAN SLATE!

Jay
11-11-2004, 07:50 AM
almost 3 pounds is okay I guess, i wish it would all just melt off, but that's never gonna happen I'm afraid... well, raw IS a challenge, if the weight would just melt off, it wouldn't be a challenge now would it? ;)
Besides, it's not just the weight, I'm feeling good too, and that's also important...

Dust yourself and try again, remember? :) Everybody has fall backs, there's not so much special about 'em, it's the people who stand up after they fell, dust off and try again, THOSE people are special, and you are special, and you are worth it, you can do this, yay! :)

I am still here! I was away for most of the day yesterday so my posts have been lacking a bit. I'm back today however! Well, I am still O.J. Fasting and I am starting to feel much better! This is day 4 for me and although the first 2 days ewre rough I am finally seeing the light. I have been in a much better mood and my skin has taken a sight turn for teh better! FINALLY! Also, I wanted to add that I am dealing with my menstral cycle this week also and surprisingly my craving haven't been all that bad. The second night I snuck and had a couple of my hubbys chips because I needed salty and crunchy but them I was so disappointed and even crappier feeling that I learned it wasn't worth it. Hopefully I can go for the next 10 days without anymore slip-ups! The good news it that since monday I have lost 4.8 pounds. I am striving for a clean body but the weight loss is an added bonus. Hopefully it will keep falling off. I will check back in a few and see how you are today! Have a good one!

Jay

Holy Moly! Already 4,8 pounds? Daaang! It's coming off way easier and faster with you campared to myself! Way to go!!
I'm glad you are still here and feeling much better after those 2 days!
Keep it up, you are doing great! Talk to you soon!

Alright now Joke & Rawjojo ...
The two of you are really starting to tempt me with fasting! I haven't "fed" yet today ... hmmm?
Thanks for the motivation J, as I am sweeping up the dust as I type this. LOL!

Hey Melissa,

4 lbs... that's 4 pounds, right? That's great!
Are you only doing the OJ like RawJoJo or do you include other juices as well?

The weather here is not that great either, it's been cloudy all day, and it's not even 6pm yet and it's already dark!! And cold, phew!

Jay,

You are doing great. I have found I lost more weight after day 10 (I don't think you are going that long). When I did the 30 day juice fast, I was 207 pounds at the start and 191 pounds at the end. Most of that weight came off between the 2nd and 3rd week. Unless you are more than 20 pounds overweight, juice fasting takes alittle longer then water fasting because your body is still getting nutrient-rich juice. But you are becoming your own success story! Keep it up!!

Hey everyone,

Todd, thanks for your post! I am actually still more than 20 pounds overweight, and I thought it would come off easier with juicefasting, because my weightloss was slowing down and it kind of plateaud so i was hoping the juicing might give the weightloss a boost, but so far it's kinda slow, compared to the others here... I don't know how much longer I'll keep juicefasting... maybe I should pull through and keep doing it for two weeks? I don't know if I'll be able to do that...

Are you getting any type of exercise? That might help kick start it a little!

Hi all,
I am at day 6 of juice fast, I have lost about 5 pounds, but I haven't lost any weight in the last two days.
This evening I noticed a couple of spots in my face. Maybe I am starting detox! Anyway today it is been VERY hard, I have been so hungry, and having many may cravings for really bad stuff (pizza, pasta, bread, cakes), and I wonder if I am detoxing from this foods.
I juice mostly oranges, but yesterday I made an awesome drink of pears, oranges and pomegranate, yummm!
You are all so inspirational, and Todd, it is so helpful to read you!!

Good point Rawjojo,

I guess I assumed Jay was exercising regularly. Jay are you doing regular exercise? I was during my fast. At least a good hour of straight walking. I hear different things with regard to the juice fast as far as weight loss. I believe the closer you can get to 30 (or even 40) days the better. At least 14 days though. 7 days is just getting the body warmed up to the idea. But exercise daily is important to your success luv!

Peace.

Todd

Hi,

yeah, I already thought of that, I'm not doing much to be honest, hee hee :o
BUT, in fact, I'm gonna go for a walk now, yeah, great idea, I'm gonna go for a walk around my little village, and get some fresh air and move those legs, whooo!

talk to you later!!
Thanks RawJoJo, you kinda reminded me, lol! :D

So far just oranges for me...but I am wanting to do more. I have ALOT of weight to lose, and I think to start its water fluid leaving your system, so the more you need to lose the quicker it starts to begin with....who am I to know these things yet though....(I am preparing to start a distance learning program in holistic health and healing, have not decided which one though)....I want to walk the walk and talk the talk so that I can help myself and then others. I have been so intrigued for so long that I am now taking the plunge...anyway. yes Joke, 4 pounds in 4 days, woohoo!!! too many more to count though

Hi,

well I went for a 40 minutes walk, but I was walking pretty fast, I even ran a few times! :D
I took my iPod with me (mp3 music player) and it was a lot of fun. It was really really cold outside (it might even freeze here tonight!) but when I came back I felt all warm and tired but satisfied :D

see you guys tomorrow!
g'night!

11-12-2004, 07:58 AM
Hee hee :D , thanks VWB!

Yeah, it was so cold, I think it even froze last night, brrrr..
But like you said, it's not a real excuse now is it? ;) Besides, you'll feel so warm and have a clear mind after you came back! At least I had!
I'm gonna go again tonight! Yay!

Well this is day 7 for me, can you believe it?! I made it until 1 week already!!
I didn't sleep very well last night though, I took some cassia (makes it easier to go #2) and my tummy was working and rumbling for a few hours when I went to sleep, not very nice and a bit uncomfortable...
But it worked, that's good of course, but I drank a lot of OJ already, and my tummy is still sensitive and bloated, why? Does anybody have an explanation for this? Tx!

Hey Sara/Fragola,

I've had those kind of moments too, like you are almost dying to eat bad stuff, bread and cheese, chips, french fries (which are actually a belgian speciality so they should be called flemish fries :p ), pizza, did I mention bread and cheese?, pasta, bread and cheese, chips, pizza, uhmm, cheese,

but I got through that difficult period and although sometimes I'm thinking tomorrow I'll stop with the juicefast, I keep going!
Also because Todd said that 14 days is better, so I'm gonna TRY to do 14 days, but at least 10! Thanks Todd for motivating us, and pointing out the needed daily exercise, hehe :D

Hi-de-ho J :)
You are doing incredible!
Todd's insight is so profound , hemmm? He so rocks!!!
I'm sure that once you make it to day 10, getting to day 14 will be a piece of cake ... or in your situation ... uhmm dare I say "bread & cheese :P"
Keep on, keeping on my friend!

11-12-2004, 09:24 AM
yeah!! Day 7 for me too!! I can't believe that i have been able to make 1 week!! The secret is taking it day by day, and the week fly!
I am taking some cassia too, that is giving me cramps in the morning, but I am eliminating which is good.
I started juicing all kind of fruits, but now I feel so much for OJ, and my juice fast become a OJ diet.
I hope to make the 2 weeks, I am still terribly hungry, but I feel strong. I went to visit my family at lunch time, and I have been drinking my OJ with people around me enjoying lot of pasta and cheese  I was so tempted, and I am vegan!!! Shame on me! ;)
Ah, and I have lost an additional pound today!! :D

Just curious ... did I read somewhere on this thread that using bananas in juice isn't "technically" juice fasting? I'm wondering b/c for breakfast this morning I had a "smoothie" made from apples, peaches, & 1/2 a banana. If this constitutes as part of a true juice fast (I loved it &) I feel that I could probably live off of them ...okay, so I am exaggerating a bit ~ but it was SOOOOOOOOOOO good!

rawjojo
11-12-2004, 09:51 AM
What is Cassia?

Jay
11-12-2004, 10:19 AM
Hi all,

Tamara/VWB: I don't think smoothies are considered juice, because they still have the whole fruit in them, juicing is different, because the fibres are separated from the juice... but if you want to live off of smoothies, that's fine too of course, aren't they just the best?!
You can juice bananas, as Todd mentioned before, but since they don't contain a lot of fluids, they normally aren't juiced for juices, I haven't had a banana in 7 days now!

RawJoJo: cassia is this sort of bean, that contains discs, which have a coat of brown concentrated syrup on them. You put a disc in your mouth and suck the syrop off, and they help you eliminate better when you are constipated. It's an all natural helper, instead of taking laxatives (the drug kind).
They work very well for me, BUT they give me cramps, which is an unpleasant side effect... :o
I don't know where you could buy it, maybe in a health food store, but I order mine via Orkos.com (only Belgium, France, Germany and Italy) and I order them peeled, because the discs are in a huge thin brown pod, and it's quite hard to open, but not impossible, I've had the pods as well before, but the peeled ones are just easier to 'eat'.
They don't smell very good I must admit, and the taste is a bit weird in the beginning, like a bit of licorice (sp?) but if it makes you poo, it's worth it, hee hee (pardon my language :D )

I haven't read thru this thread since yesterday and WOW I missed alot. You all are doing sooooo good! Fragola, you are already a very pretty lady, I can't imagine what you are looking like now!! Great Job!! Jay, about the bloating, what is happening is the juices (especially the citrus juices) are removing some fecal matter from your intestinal wall. Before it is eliminated it causes you to bloat. Thats why the longer juice fasts are better because it takes a little longer for that process than during a water fast. So if you are feeling bloated, its a good thing! Your body is cleaning house. If you can hang out for the 14 days you will feel great!

VWB and G2bme....you all make a man feel so good with your kind words! Words are such a power for good when used properly. You have made my day!! Thanks :)

Peace.

Oh about the bananas. Its true they dont really produce a juice (as in a juice fasting juice) but I don't really know how well they do at cleaning out a digestive tract (for all I know they may do very well!). I avoid them during my juice fasts but if someone else is using them I would like to know about their results. I love bananas! I miss them immensely when I juice fast. I am just afraid to used them because I want to give my digestion a break.

Peace.

Hi Todd,

thank you so much for explaining! And for reassuring me that the bloating is actually a good thing, woohoo! I never ever considered that! I thought I was doing something wrong, but apparantly not so Yay! :D
Okay, you've confinced me once again that I have to do 14 days, or at least TRY to do 14 days, but to be honest, I'm starting to get fed up with it... like now: I'm feeling hunger (although its 11 pm, and there's a bottle of juice right in front of me but I don't really feel like it... but I need to keep telling myself what you mentioned: 14 days will be better, for everything (bloating, weightloss, skin condition...) so okay, I'm gonna try! (this is weird, I'm giving myself a pep talk, he he!)

Thanks again!

Jay
11-12-2004, 04:08 PM
Thanks VWB! hugs!

Hey Glad,

Lol, welcome to my world! But I don't know how long you've been juicing... I didn't experience the bloating in the beginning, only the last 2 days maybe, like some kind of pressure in the tummy area, and it's just, you know, bloated! A bit like I ate too much...that kind of feeling.

And as for hunger: I experience that too: I get these huge hungerfeelings, then they woud pass so I'd be okay, and then wham! Huge cravings for the really really bad junk! I feel that yelling out loud or dancing to upbeat music helps a bit :D, or like running, I just felt like running a couple of times yesterday! Which reminded me, yikes, I didn't go for that walk today :o

11-12-2004, 04:08 PM
Go Jay....Go Jay.......Go Jay!! You can do it! Remember, you can have both fruit and veggie juices. Have you had any carrot juice lately? I like to mix it up so I don't get bored.

VWB, pass the smoothie over sis! I love them! (I won't talk about it too much because I don't want to temp Jay).

G2Bme....I don't know, did you do the juice fast for 14 days? Did you exercise daily too? Maybe thats it. We have to remember, there is fecal matter in our intestinal wall that has been there for years. It takes time to get rid of it all. Thats what detox is all about!

Hope you see this in time to join us if you're ready.

I'll be posting on the 30-day challenge. Tomorrow will also be my first day of 30 days of 100% RAW.

Hey Everyone,

Edda! Helen! Tamara (VWB)! Woohoo!! Thank you so much for joining us!
You can do 7 days (Yes you can!) and I'll keep on juicing as well, so I'll join you for another 7 days (which means 2 weeks for me then, waw!)
That's right folks, I'm still juicing! And as Todd explained the bloating I'm actually happy (go figure  ) that I'm bloated now, which means the old stuff in my intestines is coming loose and will get flushed out soon, Yihaa!!

So today is day 8 for me, and I juiced about 10 oranges earlier on and I'm drinking my OJ until it's gone. I'll make other juice afterwards, oh and I remember, I still have some grapejuice left too, I'll finish that today as well.

It's lunch time here, I don't know when you guys are up, but let me just give you a warm welcome already!!

WELCOME

It's breakfast time here in SW Michigan. I am excited about this juice fast. It's great to have support from others. We will definitely need it. I hope VWB will join us this time.

I'll be checking in to let everyone know how I'm doing. :)

Good morning everyone :)
Today's the big day! Buh~bye old, built up toxins & fat ... or should I just say a huge "FAREWELL!"
I 'oopsied' again last night. My hubby, my 4 kids (not goats, but children ...LOL), & I went for a family walk, which I ended up jogging about 1/4 of it. Anyway, by the time we got back home I "felt like" (<--- key words there) I was starving. And, I'm sure you know where I am leading w/ all of this blah, blah, blah ... 2 svgs of veggie lasagna :( UGH! I thought I would start my fast w/ a clean slate ... so to speak. So there you have it: my prefast confession!
Onward to day one!
J,
I am so proud of you for making the decision to do the 14! We are here for you my friend:) Imagine how great it is going to feel "post" fast! OM Goodness, great & rejuvenating!
A special "hello" also to Helen & Edda as we embark on this cleansing journey together ... much success to us all!!!
Well, I need to go purchase more fruit and maybe even a new juicer ... I'll have to thaw out my Linens & Things credit card from the freezer for the juicer first though ... not kidding. Any suggestions on a "great" brand would be helpful as now I own the "Hamilton Beaach" brand & although it works it is such a mess!
But first I am off to my journal to post last night's indiscretion :(
Happy Fasting ~

Helen Of Tennessee
11-13-2004, 07:23 AM
Hi Jay and other juicers,

Thanks for the WELCOME :D

I got up at 7:00 am this morning - hurting. Bad headache, neck pain, small of my back aching - just aching all over :( So I'm really looking forward to this juice fast!!!!

I hope I juice enough as I have a karate seminar today. I'll leave the house at 10:40 and won't return home until 5:30. During these seminars I only drink water, but I'm taking my juice with me to drink on my drive home so when I walk into my house I don't cave from the junk food in the pantry or from another family member cooking.

As for exercise, I do lack in it. I teach and assist teach the martial arts and I really don't get much of a workout when I teach as I am going around critiquing the students. There are some classes where I do get a partial work out but nothing like I did when I was coming up the ranks. Another reason for me wanting to go all 100% RAW is to rebuild my bones. I have degenerated discs in my neck, so I can't do jumping jacks. I also have not sparred in 1 1/2 years. The last time I sparred and got hit in the head, it jerked my neck and I went into a nasty 3-week headache. So now I'm afraid to get into the ring. But I really believe once I'm raw and my neck starts repairing itself, I will be back in the ring and competing in sparring again (I still compete in kata and weapons).

I'm expecting a lot from this juice fast and 30 day raw challenge. I'm expecting a lot from me. I know I can do this. I have so much I want to do and it's TOTALLY up to me to discipline myself into watching what I put into my mouth. I'll be 51 in a couple of weeks. I am way too young to not to be able to do jumping jacks or mow the lawn (vibration gives jars my neck and gives my a horrible headache for days). So heres to day 1 of juicing!!!!

Hi VeganWannaBe,

So glad to see your are starting day 1 with Edda and I (and of course those that are already into their juice fast!!!).

We have all, somewhere in our journey, had our "oopsies". But what's nice is we can start with a fresh start or the continuation with a hicup in the middle of our juice fast or raw journey.

I'm soooooo looking forward to this. I'm sitting here with a killer headache!!!! (eating cooked food last night, no I don't seem to ever learn!!!).

I still haven't juice. I've been up a hour now . . . fed critters (yes they are mostly raw too), played with one dog, played with grandson, spent time on the computer, etc. Sometimes if I keep busy I don't notice the headache, but not this one. Nothing I do seems to help me not feel it  (and it's all my fault). I even took an aspirin  I have to do something as I have a karate seminar that I'm going to and I PAID for it already. I'm not missing it. Master Dillman only comes to Tennessee once a year.

Well I'm going to have to get showered, press my gi (uniform), juice, and do a final check on the boards here before I'm out the door.

Come on JUICE - do your thing!!!! Make me feel better!!!! :p yeah...yeah...

Hi everybody,

I'm so glad you gals joined me!!
I hope your headache went away after all Helen, headaches are terrible, but I'm guessing yours are even worse than the ones I ever had! You are doing a great thing by juicefasting, I hope you'll get all the benefits out of it!
And you too of course Edda, glad you are joining us!
Tamara, like Helen said, we all had our oopsies, now dust off, and try again, yay! (btw: love your word 'oopsies', made me laugh! :D )

I was just checking in, because I'm still cleaning the windows here, in between the rain-showers!

talk to you later my fellow juice buddies! :D

One thing I noticed starting last evening and I have it again right now: a bad taste in my mouth, but I can't seem to place the taste... it's not metalic from my fillings or anything, more like... uhm... soap?
I also noticed my tongue was coated a little bit, last night when I went to brush my teeth...
man, this taste in my mouth is yukkie!

VeganWannaBe
11-13-2004, 08:49 AM
That's great Jay ... the coated tongue is a major sign of detox!!! Be sure to welcome this symptom w/ open arms! Once I did a 3 day water fast & had the same thing by the beginning of day 2 ... grant you, it was horrible but the body has to release all of those built up toxins some way :) Just try not to stand too close to people when having a conversation with them, LOL.
Helen, I said a little prayer for your headache to go bye bye. I suffer from migraines & I really do feel for you today. Just remember that this fast is the absolute best thing that you could ever do for yourself! Do your best to enjoy this special day in the martial arts world ... girl, I don't know how you do it! I tried my hand at Tai chi (sp?) about 6 years ago & it made me realize that there are muscles in places that I never even knew existed! It was quite a workout & after only 3 sessions I had had enough. I admire your continuity my friend!
I've been awake now for about 3 hours & have not juiced yet b/c I am not particularly hungry. I will be leaving in about an hour and I think I will go ahead & have some juice before so that I don't get overly hungry.
Question: if the hunger isn't there is it necessary to juice anyway ... or do I only need to juice when hunger is present?

ehartmanf

I started the day with 12oz. of fresh apple/cranberry juice....very refreshing and tasty. Has anyone else tried this combination? Hi Jay,

Although my headache was pretty strong this morning, I NEVER get them like I did a few years ago. I had one that lasted 3 years and I was totally drugged up and had injections and planned my suicide because the "doctors" told me there was no cure and all they could do was to try to help me be comfortable . . . the rest of my life! HA! I now have had many days with no headaches and no drugs!!!!! But I still do get numerous headaches, but nowhere as bad (aspirin helps to "cover" up the pain so I can function), but I know once my diet is cleaned up, the headaches will be in the pass.

Thanks for welcoming me :)

Hi VeganWannaBe,

Thanks for your prayers for my headache. It's a little less, but still hanging on. I also understand that I'll probably will be getting a detox headache soon too. But I'm going to hang in on the juice fast.

It's a shame you didn't stick with the Tai Chi. It's like eating raw. At first it's a little hard, but then it becomes natural. I have about 14 years of martial arts training and love it. Just can't wait until I can get back into the ring and not worry about getting hit in the head and suffering a horrible, long headache :D In the mean time, I enjoy working with my weapons. I do get a workout from that.

This morning I had pure & simple o.j and had such a burst of energy that I went for a 30 minute walk. It is very cold here, but the walk was so exhillerating (SP?) ... I will definitely be doing that again soon... probably later today :)
So far, so good ... okay, so I am a little over zealous!
I hope everyone else is doing well ...

I NEED a good recipe for a V-8 type of vegetable juice. I know someone posted one awhile back, but now I can't find it. Please help!

Hello!

How's everybody doing?
Edda, I know somebody posted that V8 recipe, but can't seem to find it either, sorry! Hopefully you'll find it soon!

I drank the rest of my grapejuice during the day. I cleaned all the windows (ground floor) and after that helped my dad in his studyroom to take the wallpaper off.. after that I juiced veggies, which made about 1 liter of juice. I drank half of it for dinner. Man, cleaning my champion takes up so much time!! It would be okay if I didn't have to stop every so often to clean out stuff that doesn't go through! Celery is definitely one of the culprits!!

It's so funny: my parents had dinner while I was juicing, and by the time I was finally finished they were both napping on the sofa, lol! Looks like you get tired after eating cooked food!
I do notice that I don't get tired as easily anymore as before!
Like the other day, when I went for a walk, I walked lots faster and further then I would be able to a couple of months ago, AND without breaking into a sweat :D AND with a bit of running in between! :D :D :D

see you gals later!

Go Jay - Go Jay - Go!!! Oh man, we have been w/o power since around 5 am, its now 3:30 in the afternoon. I took Matthew (my son) to a movie last night, found my hand in his popcorn, dropped it on the floor and ran to wash my hands and get a bottle of water...whooo, that was close, I was not thinking...It was a hard night to get through!!!I have to go to my moms in a bit, and I know she will be cooking, hope its nothing I could die for (lol). Juice before I go!

Thanks Glad for cheering me on :D

hee hee, I had to laugh with your popcorn story.. did you really ran out of the movie theatre to wash your hands?! Wow! Way to go! I'm glad you didn't munch on any!

Okay guys, I'm having a bit of a dillema: If I want to do 14 days straight, I will stumble across some problems: My grandma's birthday is the 20th of this month, and we are all invited for reception and dinner that day, and the day after we'll share a brunch together (it's in a hotel, the whole family will spend the night there, cool!) but here's the thing: if I keep juicing for 14 days, I'll end the 19th, and that doesn't give me enough time to transition back to normal raw food (I know I'll be having cooked at that dinner, it's already ordered and everything, and I don't want to make a fuss about it so I'm gonna eat it). So what should I do? 14 days? But then I will have problems the day after because that's the day of the dinner. Or maybe just 10 days? That would mean I'll end monday, which gives me enough time to adjust to solid raw food and then maybe I won't suffer as much from the dinner then when I'll do 14 days... Or I can keep juicing, have the dinner and brunch, and then continue juicing... but don't know if that's a good option...
HELP!

TODD? Can you give your advice on this one as well? Thank you thank you thank youuuu!! :)

Hi Jay,

Did you say the 20th? You should probably end the fast on the 18th. Eat just fruit on the 19th. On the 20th, try to eat as much salad as they have available. Keep piliing that on your plate promising to try other things later. As the reception goes on, eat a small amount of the best of the cooked, you can excuse yourself from the garbage (like the cake) by saying you just finished a long fast and it may make you really sick (which is true). I am sure your family will understand.

It's 6:30 pm and I'm still all juice today. Been to busy to eat :) I have suffered a pretty strong headache all day. Although I haven't drank much, I don't seem to be hungry at all. I hope I feel like this the rest of the evening.

So glad to see others are still going strong. I hope I get that burst of energy that some of you are talking about. I'm not tired, but I'm not full of energy either. Just feel pretty good and relaxed.

Day one has gone very well for me. I had several glasses of apple/cranberry juice and several of fresh V-8 juice (I found a recipe) which was most delicious. I haven't really been hungry, though I have thought about food a good bit. I keep telling myself that I WILL eat again, just not today.
I feel just fine and am looking forward to day #2.

Hi everyone,

THANK YOU TODD! Really, thank you so much for your advice! I'm gonna try to do it that way, although, I have to admit that I'm kind of getting fed up with the juicing... So maybe I'll end the 16th or 17th, which gives me a couple of days to transition to fruits and veggies again. I'll eat only fruits the day after I'll end my juicefast, promise :)

Helen and Edda! I'm so proud of you two, you did wonderfull! Good luck with your second day!!

Okay so today is day 9 for me, I started the day by helping my dad out in his study, taking the wallpaper off, and around lunch I got hungry so I juiced another 51 oz of OJ, which I drank 1/3 off for lunch.
The muscles in my back are sore! I think it's from cleaning the windows yesterday, can't think of anything else that might have caused them to ache...

I think I'll juice some apple/pear juice again this afternoon, I still have loads of fruit so I'll do that, and it will be good to have some variety.

I'll check back later!

Everyone is doing so awesome!
Yesterday went very well for me too. Matter of a fact, I am down .8 pounds this morning ... although my focus is more on health than weight loss at this point!
For some reason, I didn't receive any emails from this thread like I usually do? ... Anyway, I loved the popcorn story ... now that's discipline & focus!!!
So, yesterday my hubby, kids, & I were gone from noon until 7pm & even though they had Burger King for lunch & then Golden Corral for dinner, I maintained my juicing! I did take a couple of bananas for the trip, just in case, but never ate them :) Please wish me luck as today will be another long day away from home. I hope to hear that everything went well with everyone's day two!
Happy Fasting ~

Hi to all my health-conscious friends!! I have a little testimony for you. About 2 months ago I spoke at our church on the subject of fruit. A woman was there that I didn't know (she had come with a friend of mine). She came back to my house (with about 20 others) after church and asked me alot of questions about raw diet, fasting, juicing...etc. I gave her some materials before she left. She said she had been taking anti-depressants for years and she wanted to be free of them. I suggested a Master Cleanse followed by a juice fast. I suggested she do at least 14 days but 20 would be better. She said she wanted to do 40 days! I must have spent about 20 minutes trying to talk her out of that but she was determined. She went home and bought a champion juicer and called me daily. She actually ended up doing about 21 days between the Master Cleanse and the juice fast. When she was done she had lost 10 pounds and she said that after the 7th day of the fast she no longer needed the drugs! I saw her yesterday (its been about 2 months) and she is still drug free! This will do great things for people! Keep it up! Great job!

Hi Tood,

Thanks for sharing the story about the antidepressants. My son has been "stuck" on them for 6-7 years and is having a horrible time trying to get off of them. The doctor tried to put my daughter and me on them too. Gheeze. Seems like their solution to everything is antidepressants.

Anyway I'm going to send your story to him.

Also, VeganWannaBe - so many people get upset when you say you want to lose weight and that is the wrong answer for going raw. I have thought about this and decided it's not wrong. If you're over weight, it's a symptom. Like a headache is a symptom. Dry skin is a symptom. Fibromyalgia is a symptom. So why is it okay to say I'm eating raw to get rid of the fibromyalgia, or I'm eating raw to get rid of my headaches, but you can't say I'm eating raw to lose weight? So if you lost .8 pounds, then hurray for you!!!! Your body is getting rid of unwanted poundage of toxins. YEA!!!! :D

Todd, that's an awesome story! Thanks for sharing it.
Day #1 went great for me.
I woke up early this morning, feeling great, not hungry and no headache. I lost 2/5 lbs. WoooHooo! I had my first glass of juice at 10:00am. It's a bright and sunny day here and I think it will help me stay focused and positive. I'm off to juice some more..... :)
Great job Helen and Tamara. Keep up the good work.
Jay, my hat is off to you. I am so impressed. Since I have only done one 24 hour juice fast before, I will be very happy if I can complete 5 days this time. Next time I will try to go longer.
Everyone's posts are very inspiring and encouraging to me.

(r)Awsome story Todd!

Everybody's doing great, I'm so glad you guys joined, and looks by your posts that everybody's still doing wonderfull, excellent! :D

Thanks Edda, I'm amazed at myself that I keep going, although, like I already mentioned before, I'm getting a bit fed up with the juice, I just placed an awsome order with Orkos (they deliver all organic to some countries in Europe, I ordered pineapples, pomegranates, bananas, dates and really sweet grapes that are already semi-dry -turning in to raisins, but still with lots of juice left) So you see that I'm preparing to eat solid foods again! (btw: I'll get the rest of my produce in a health food store nearby where I live, Orkos is just for the real treats!)
But for now I'll keep juicing, the order arrives on tuesday, so I'll juice until then I think, unless everything isn't ripe yet, but I think it's going to be difficult to stay away from those dates! It's a testset, with 16 (!) different types of dates (about 5 pieces per type) so you see, that's going to be hard to stay away from!!!

I just drank the rest of my OJ (so today I had already 51 oz OJ) and that's it! I'm not that hungry anymore as yesterday... (it's already 5:40pm here)... I'll juice my apples and pears for dinner I think...

See you juicers later!
Joke

I forgot to say this:

With me the main reason to go raw is also my weight... I'm very lucky I think that I don't suffer from anything else and have to take meds for that! So for me it's basically: weight, headaches, feeling tired, skin (dry all over my body except my face that's quite oily) overall wellbeing.
I can already say that I've lost over 35 pounds, don't have headaches anymore (not even for detox but that might still change), skin is still fairly dry and face is still oily (not to mention my hair, I have to wash it every other day) and I had lots of zits on my face caused by detox I assume) I'm not that tired anymore and I already feel better in my skin, but I still have a long way to go!!! :)

Aww, Thanks Curtis!! :)

So for dinner I juiced about 6 pears and 3 apples, which made a really thick juice! I'm adding a bit of water because it's almost like a smoothie!!

My tummy is STILL bloated! pff, when will this end?!

Hello everyone!
Joke, today made me realize just how much more I should be impressed by your determination!!! I was already amazed by you but today opened up my eyes even wider ... you are incredible, my friend!!!
Yesterday was fantastic but today was not so great. I wish my hubby didn't like to eat out so much! But it's my fault 110% :( I broke down this afternoon and had tortilla chips w/ organic salsa ... needless to say, I'm paying the price for it now!
But, let me make this very clear ... I am not giving up with the fast just yet! I am going to try to juice Monday through Friday (it's so much easier to make proper decisions when my sweet husband is working those long hours during the week!) and then continue on raw over the weekend. If all works out, I will do this until Thanksgiving when I commence to 100% Raw.
Hey ~ any change toward raw is a change for the better right? I must admit that I feel horrible for faltering after only 1 and 1/2 days ... I'm truely sorry... ugh!

Jay
11-14-2004, 05:30 PM
:) That's so sweet of you to say Tamara, thank you very much for your kind words, they made me smile :)

I'm sorry you fell for the tortilla chips, I know, they still look so good to me too, It's hard, but don't pay too much attention and time to that slip anymore, it's over, you should get up and dust off, remember?! ;)

Maybe it wasn't time yet for fasting for you, I don't think I could have done it when starting with raw... first I spent 3 months transitioning, 1 month all raw, then the following months a slip up here and there, and then decided to do a juicefast. But I'm amazed by your perseverance! I'm glad you still want to change, it's good, not always easy, but you'll get there, there are always going to be little bumps in the road, for everyone, just visionise your goal(s), you'll get there! WE'll get there, okay!?

Good luck raw buddy! :D

great Jay!!!! :) You are soooo strong!!!!
I am at day 10 too!!!! I can't believe!!!
I don't know what to do, because this morning a lady that I know gave me 2 bags of organic vegetables (lettuce, cabbage, fennels, peppers, eggplants, parsley, leeks, celery) picked up directly from her garden, and I felt soooo hungry by the smell of that greens!! I feel a lot for a salad, and I am sad to leave all this good stuff to get old in the fridge :( but I am also being so proud of me for the 10 days of juice fast that I want to continue until friday...maybe I can try to juice some green stuff,
What is your plan jay? Will you do the 2 weeks plan?

ehartmanf
11-15-2004, 06:11 AM
Fragola,

I made THE MOST delicious V-8 type vegetable juice using the following:

tomatoes
small beet
celery
carrots
Romaine lettuce
parsley
spinach
red pepper
1 small clove garlic
lemon juice

I added a little sea salt and a little Bragg's. It tasted delicious and really satisfied the craving for something salty.

Jay, you are doing FABULOUS!!!
You're right, visualizing our goals does help. Jay and Fragola, I can't remember if you've ever listed the benefits you have notices from this juice fast. If you haven't, would you mind doing so?

Today is day 3 for me. I have done very well so far with no slip ups. I have lost 5.5 lbs. in two days. Is this possible??? I am thrilled, of course, but amazed. I really do miss chewing though. :) Last night I was looking for and printing holiday type recipes until I realized that it was making me hungry and I had to stop. :D

I will begin my day with orange juice (since I bought a bunch more yesterday) and probably make some more V-8 later. Here's to a great day everyone.

You two are so inspirational!!! Keep it up, you're both doing great :)

And Edda ... my hat's off to you as well! 5.5 pounds in 2 days ... how is your energy?

Well, even with my slip, I still lost .2 pounds! That's crazy!!! I think my body is just so happy to be getting "nourishment" instead of the SAD that it is doing it's best to help me be raw by blessing me with motivation via weight loss... who knows?! Anyway, I think you are right J. about the timing of my fast. Given that, I will be trying to juice 2 meals a day & have 100% raw the remainder. What do you think? Any insight into this is very much welcomed :)

Hi Tamara,

I think I mentioned once before that even when I eat normally, I generally have juice 3 times a day. That works really well for me and I so enjoy it. I usually have only juice until lunchtime. I figure this gives my body a good long rest from the last meal on the previous day. Does this make sense?
My energy level is great. In fact, I am not noticing any detox symptoms yet.
I wish you great success in however you decide to do it.

Jay
11-15-2004, 06:47 AM
Thanks Edda!

The changes I experienced, well, let's see:

*I lost weight, but only 4.8 pounds... not a lot, is it? But I did notice that my jeans fit better then before the juicefast, so somethings comming off, if it's not weight, it's inches for sure.
*I'm still bloated. I thought I'd be visiting the toilet at least once a day (for #2 of course) but that's not the case... which I don't understand very well, I thought all the build up toxins would be released when juicefasting...
*I have more energy, but I notice that only when I'm doing things like cleaning or walking... I can go much longer without stopping to take a rest or without breaking into a sweat.
*I noticed I don't need as much food! Sometimes I can go by with just about 70oz of juice, and H2O of course.
*I'm still sleeping a LOT!! 9 hours is no exception!! But I also just love sleeping, so maybe I don't NEED the 9 hours... I notice that when I only sleep like 7 hours, I'm fine too.
*My face hasen't cleared up yet, I already had a few spots here and there on my face (especially the T-zone of my face) but since starting with the juicefast, I've had a lot more, the ones I had from the beginning of the fast are finally starting to heal, but I have new ones popping up each day... :(
*I know how to operate a champion now, lol!
*I haven't had a single headache during this fast, which is quite impressive I think! Before raw I had at least 5 headaches per month (mostly accompagnied with my periods). Since going raw, I only had a few in the beginning! AND, also a really bad one after I ate lots of cooked food, the day before this juicefast!
*I made a lot of new raw friends on this board :)

I think that's it... If I found more benefits, I'll add them :)

ALRIGHT SARA!!! 10 days too, we are on a roll here!!
As for your lovely veggies... you can juice them, like Edda mentioned, but the sad thing about juicing is... you have to throw a lot of the food away (all the stuff that doesn't contain any juice anymore) so you have to decide for yourself of course, and I'll cheer you on if you want to do 14 days, that would be awsome!!
As for myself, I'm gonna break mine on Wednesday I think... I have a big dinnerparty (B-day of my grandma) of Saturday, so if I break the fast on Wednesday, I can transition slowly to whole fruits again... (and my Orkos delivery will arrive Tuesday, Yay, I ordered dates, YUM!)

bye!

Jay
11-15-2004, 06:59 AM
Hey Tamara,

that's great that you still lost a bit of weight! :)
I think you can, like Edda suggested, combine juices with your meals, that's what I'm gonna do as well after this fast. Sometimes I'm hungry but the things I have lying around in the house just don't seem to appeal to me. I think that that would be a good moment to drink some juice instead. You can add what you want, you won't be hungry anymore afterwards, and you'll get enough vitamins and all.

Take care! You're doing a great job!! :)

I forgot to mention what I drank already today:
I didn't make the OJ because there was still a pineapple and I combined it with two pears. Then I thought, I'm gonna try to juice a banana and let the others know about how it went... well, I'd advise you to NOT juice a banana!! There was hardly any juice, actually, it was more like banana purree that came out! It had the same texture like if you make banana ice cream with the blender/food processor/champion, only this time it wasn't cold! I can't even taste the banana in my juice, so it wasn't worth it! Just so you know! Ciao!

Thank you Edda,
and 'yes' ... juice until noon makes perfect sense :)

I'm glad to hear that your energy is up & detox symptoms down :)

Hi all,

I'm sort of on day 3 of my juice fast. I was having very strong detox symptoms and decided to try to slow them down. I was all juice the 1st day. Yesterday I had a few raw crackers, a few grapes and 2 slices of kiwi.

This morning my body still ached, but I don't think quite as much. My headache is mild to moderate and so far no diarrhea. So I'm going to do all juice again today and hope my detox doesn't increase. I have a 15 month old grandson I take care of and can't spend it in the bathroom every 15 minutes  Also can't handle the NASTY headache like I had the first day, so I if I have to slow it down with some raw foods. I'm just so happy that I'm ALL RAW!!!!! Yahoo!!!!! Oh yeah, I also lost 3 pounds.

Jay -
I did the Master Cleanse for 9 days about a year ago. After about 2 days, I never had a BM (#2). I've read that you should have them, but I sure didn't. I figure if food isn't going in, then nothing is going to come out. I have ate high raw for 5 years now and maybe that was long enough and high enough to get most of the "junk" out of my intestines, hence, I won't have a BM, except for some minor diarrhea. Also congratulations on making 10 days so far!!!!! Way to go.

Edda -
You're doing GREAT! I know how hard it is for you to lose weight so 5.5 pounds in 2 days is EXCEPTIONAL!!!! I lost 2 pounds the first day, but I also only drank 1 liter of OJ and that's all I had all day, except some water. Yesterday, again just 1 liter of OJ and some raw crackers and a few grapes and I lost 1 pound. I have always been a slow loser, so I'm extremely happy with how quickly I'm losing. I hope I continue.

Fragola -
Congratulations on 10 days of juice. I hope you make it until Friday. Maybe you can juice some of the veggies the lady gave you. How about your family? Would they eat it?

VeganWannaBe-
I was a little confused (this is very comon for me :p ) Yesterday you wrote you were going to juice Monday - Friday. Then this morning you wrote about juicing 2 meals and eating one. Is this after your juice fast? Or is this what you are going to do starting today until Friday? Either is fine, I was just wondering :)

Well, ladies (and any men who is reading or posting here) today is another great day. Hope all of you reach your goals for today - our bodies are really going to appreciate us!

Hello Helen :)
I tend to confuse people at times ...sorry.
Anyway, being only about 10 days 90% raw and then jumping into an all juice fast is extremely difficult for me. So, I agree with Joke that I probably entered into this fast prematurely. Alissa forewarned me that I may end up setting myself up for failure, so rather than that I will ease into the fast & start by juicing 2 meals a day ... if I go all day that will be great, but I do get way too over zealous sometimes. So there you have it ... my new plan: juice 2 meals, 1 raw meal (if need be).
Sorry for the confusion ~

Hi Jay
Still going strong! I am going to try and continue my fast fro another week or so. I am really begining to feel better and I want to continue until my body says "stop". However I am probably going to stop by the beginning of next week so I can transition for a couple of days before Thanksgiving. I am planning on having salad and mock turkey loaf and cranberry sauce for TG dinner so that I will be able to stay raw. My goal is to lose some more lbs. and completely clear up my face by Christmas! We'll see.............

Jay, Edda, Fragola, VWB, Helen,

You all are doing wonderful! Jay, about the BM. It could be that, if you are still bloated, you really have alot of "stuff" in there that needs to come out. A couple of suggestions, first, definitely walk at least 2 or 3 miles (not sure how long that is in kilometers) per day in open air. Second, early in the morning try a salt flush. Thats One quart of water (32oz) with 2 teaspoons of sea salt. Do it early in the morning (like before anyone else is up) because you will have to be near the toilet for about an hour or so. After you drink this, immediately drink some fresh water (at least 16oz). That should clean you out well and get rid of the bloat.

Fragola, Great Job!!! 10 days is fantastic! You too Jay!!

VWB, stop whining. Get up and keep marching forward soldier! You will make it! You can do it! Just pray and forge full speed ahead seeing with the eye of Faith how good you will feel and look!.

Peace.

Well its Monday morning here, and as I said yesterday in my journal...I think I am dying!!! Is this detox or the Flu????

Jay
11-15-2004, 10:30 AM
Hey All,

Thanks for the advise Todd, I'll try to walk 3 to 4 kilometers (that's almost 3 miles) each day. I've done the salt flush a couple of times before, years and years ago, I know it works miracles, but like you said, stay close to the toilet, hee hee  so yeah, I'll do that. I know I have all this stuff inside and I want it out, out OUT! So I'll do that salt flush tomorrow, thanks again for the advise and the support!

Glad: it's detox!! I'm sorry you feel like poop (sorry but that word made me giggle, but I know you feel miserable!) You also just started with raw if I'm right, just like VWB, correct? It's just a lot of toxins coming out... maybe you should try to slow the detox down a bit, like Helen, but I'm not sure if that's good advice, maybe wait until Todd's answer? Again, hope you'll feel better soon!! Hang in there!

Hi RawJoJo,

I'm so glad for you that you want to try to make it to 14 days!! Congrats, You've done wonderfull up till now! You can do this, I'm sure you can!!
Have fun searching great holiday recipes, but carefull, last time I did that I got so hungry, like Edda, lol!!

I hope my skin will be better when I have the dinner for my grandma, but I'm being realistic, it will probably be still the same, thank god almost everybody of the family knows that I'm trying to stay raw, so thats already a relief. (My brother is raw too, so they know all about it :) )

Pfew, I just did an hour walk, but walked pretty fast, so I was tired when I came back home, but satisfied :) I think I did about 4 to 5 kilometers, YAY!

I didn't drink a lot today, in fact, it's getting less and less as the days go by... just not that hungry anymore I suppose... but I'm so looking forward to eating again, mmmm yummy...

I'm ready for bed, take care everybody, keep on juicing!

Hi Glad,

I am not sure, how many days have you been raw? It may be detox but its hard to tell. What has been the food you have been eating the most of? Is there any major stress in your life right now?

Hi all,
well I am day 11!!!
I admit that last night I dreamt of eating pizza and croissant, and woke up this morning feeling guilty, but it was only a dream!
During this juice fast I have lost 10 pounds and surely many centimeters as my trousers are so large now!! My goal is to lose another 5 pounds by friday, but I think it will be difficult.
I am also going to the gym 3 days a week and out for jogging the other 3 days, I have so much energy!
I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying this experience!
:)

Way to go Fragola!!

Today is day 11 for me too!
I didn't have a good night sleep last night, I don't know why, but I remember being awake for quite some time... also my tummy was still rumbling... maybe it was also because I was thinking about the salt flush, I remember, last time I did one, I ended up with lots of cramps on the toilet, and also, when drinking the salt water, some of it ended back in the sink... :o
So I woke up around 7:30am, made the 'potion' and drank it, and yes, also this time it made me nauseous and some of it ended right back in the sink... about 20 minutes later it was time...
So yay, it worked!

I'm gonna wait a bit for hunger to come, then I'll make some juice.

Fragola
11-16-2004, 05:03 AM
I know that potion :( but how do youfeel now? Still bloated? I was tempted to try the salty water too, to maximize my elimination but it is soooo disgusting!!!

I think I wll make pear juice today, it is so thick and tasty :p

Jay
11-16-2004, 05:10 AM
I know, it's so disgusting, like I said, some of it came right back out, because it was so yucky I couldn't keep it down!

I still feel weird, not so well actually. A bit tired, my eyes are itching, my tummy is still making noises and is still bloated, overall: not very well :o
I hope that will pass, but I'm afraid that when I start drinking juice, it will come right out again...
and I still have a salty taste in my mouth, I can't seem to get rid of it!
I'm gonna juice some pears and apples later today...
oh, and apparantly my order with Orkos hasen't even been shipped yet, so I think I'll receive it tomorrow instead of today, poo :(
my skin is still as bad...

Hi everyone,

well, let's turn the 11 days back into 10 days, hee hee :o
I had 2 pears for lunch, although not organic, that's why they didn't taste as good to me, but I had asked my brother about the unfrequent toiletvisits and he said, just like Helen mentioned, that I need to eat fibres (of fruits and veggies of course) to have some BM... and since I was feeling pretty down today, I thought I'd help my body to some fruit-fibres, so there you go, I made it untill 2pm this afternoon, then I went for the pears. But I'm not mad at myself or anything, I just felt it was time to change to solid foods again :)

But I'll keep reading here and cheering you guys on! You are the best!! :D

On to Day 4.

Yesterday I drank 1 1/2 liters of juice. I had a horrible headache, again!!! I ate a banana and a few raw crackers. I had been ALL RAW up until last night. My family made a spagehtti dinner with garlic bread. I didn't eat any of it. Well last night, very late, I was picking up the kitchen, turning all the lights off and right there on the counter was the last piece of garlic bread. I ate it. Thank goodness it was from a mini loaf, so it was small, but it still wasn't raw.

This morning - woke up for the first time in a loooong time with only mild aches - Yea!!!!!! and a mild headache. I was able to get up and walk around immediately. I think my body is starting to repair itself to the point I can feel it. I lost .2 pounds for a total of 3.2 pounds.

Although I'm still struggling with horrible headaches, I no longer have diarrhea, my chills are gone, weight is down, and my joint and muscle aches are a whole lot less. I'm making PROGRESS. :D :D :D On to Day 4!!!!!

Great job Jay! You did fantastic! Sorry to hear the salt water made you sick :( . Hopefully the fiber from the pears will cause you to eliminate. I didnt ask you before, are you dealing with stress? That also could hold things up (no pun intended) lol.

Helen, I am so happy to hear you are doing better! That's great! Sounds like your body is healing itself (which its made to do).

Peace.

Hi Todd,

Thanks for the encouragement. I know my body is healing, but it's so nice to be reinforced by you and others on the board :) I'm was a little sleepy, so I went out on the deck and fell asleep in the sun. It felt so good!!!! Guess rest is also part of the healing too as I rarely ever nap. So far, my headache isn't getting any worse . . . a good sign!!!!

I'm taking my freshly squeeze OJ and heading back out on the deck. Sun has gone behind the clouds but I understand you still can get some Vit D through the clouds (have to store up for the winter) :D

Hi Todd,

thanks!
Yeah, I did NOT like the salt flush
Stress, nope, none excisting right now, I'm unemployed, can do whatever I want, although I'm in charge of cleaning and stuff in and around the house. I'm planning to go to Australia next year to work and travel there for a year, so taking a job right now would be a bit silly, as it would only be for another month or two... (I know about temp jobs, but I spent the last three years studying for my diploma, and didn't have any vacation then, so I'm glad I don't have any pressure and stress right now in my life) I know I'm lucky to be at home, basically do what I want, but I don't plan to do it for much longer, a new adventure awaits me :D

Today I want to try a water fast to speed up the detox process.
I have only 3 days to go, I am looking forward to a banana breakfast saturday morning :p

Fragola, my hat is off to you, you are doing such a wonderfull job!!
I agree, banana breakfast sounds so goooooooooooood!!
Hang in there, only 3 more days left, yay!

As for the weightloss, I actually gained 1.5 pounds again, whyyyy? So if you add up, I only lost like 3.3 pounds in the end... pfff, not fair... :(
Let's just hope it will come off easy!

Thank you Jay! I am very worried about the "after-fast", worried that I will not be able to stop eating anything, and worried that I will gain back my weight, but what can I do? At least it is been a good detox, and you can think the same. You have now less toxins in your body, this mean that you will live longer, healthier, happier, young and beautiful!!
Today I went for a walk into Venice, and it seemed that EVERYBODY around me was eating....awwww sometimes it is sooo hard!! :)

Hey Fragola,

Girl, you are doing great! Breaking the fast has been an issue for me as well. Everytime I do it, I am learning. Eating alot of fruit and fruit only will be good the first day or even two days. I too am learning this the hard way. How much weight have you lost since the fast began?

Hi Todd,

I think I am having a great detox day, I am feeling so chilly right now, no matter how many clothes I am wearing :(

What I am going to write now is quite gross, so people you are warned: I went to toilet and eliminated something that I can relate to that pictures about mucoid plaque, I was so excited, and more strong about the water fast!!

I have lost 11 pounds and surely some centimeters, at the end of the 2 weeks I will take measurements again.
I am planning to eat only fruit during the weekend, I am looking forward to it :D

This is day 5 for me. I slowly have been getting better. Then I though I had a set back.

I got up at 4am (grandson teething) and I felt fine. Then I eventually went back to bed and didn't get up until 7:30 and I was in a lot of pain. All over my body and a headache.

I have finally seen a pattern. Depending on how much I workout (in my martial arts) the night before, the more I hurt muscle & head wise. Last night I had a pretty good (not intense) workout with my weapons and kata. As the morning went on and I moved around, I'm feeling a lot better, except for a real mild headache - but this has been on going for a long time. So I am making progress. I lost another 1/2 pound for a total of 3.8 pounds.

My plan was for a 5 day juice fast (which I did have some raw foods to slow down some pretty nasty detox). I think this is my last day. I may even incorporated some fresh fruits today - I did already eat 4 organic strawberries.

I'm going to my first Raw Food Potluck this Saturday. I don't want to miss out on sampling the food - the main reason I'm going, to find foods that I like before I actually buy the ingredients, prepare and know I'll eat it and not have to throw it out. So I want to start on some fruits today and still juice, then tomorrow, more fruits and less juice.

Hi all,
who is sticking with the fast?
I am at day 13 - and day 2 of water fast - and I am feeling quite sick :(
I am freezing, and I have a terrible sore throat, and also my tongue is so painful, what does this mean? I have few spots on my face, and incredibly dry lips. I keep puttin shea butter on them, but nothing works. I drank some lemon water. This morning I have eliminated again two tiny bits at my toilet  then went to the gym to swet out some more toxins.
Now I am just laying on the sofa with my douvet on me, but still chilly.
I hope to be better for the weekend, I will go to England for a short holiday, and I want to enjoy my banana for breakfast, so I hope that the sore throat will pass soon!!!!
Anyway, I should be glad about this detox, the only thing is that it is so unpleasant!!

Helen, enjoy your potluck, I am so jealous, all that raw food to try!!! :D

Hi Fragola ~

I'm still O.J. fasting BUT I am thinking of doing water for a few days to speed things up a bit. Aside from headaches, I haven't really had too much detoxing and I know ther is way more junk in my system. I may try this seekend! That way I'll have time to rest! We'll see...........!

Thanks Fragola, I'm sure I'll enjoy my Raw Potluck. Never been to one before.

I have to hand it to you . . . you sure are a tough cookie to stick with it 100% with the detox you are having. I couldn't handle the detox and take care of a grandson, but even if I didn't have him, I don't think I would handle the detox like you are. I figure I'll detox with raw foods . . . it will just take longer, but I'll get there :) I hope once you finish your juice and water fast that you'll feel like a million dollars (a whole lot quicker then me) :)

I'm hoping to try another juice fast in a month or two, after I've been high or all raw for a period of time. This should cause my detox to be almost nil. I'll see.

Hi Fragola,

That sounds right. Its in that second 7 day period of time that the detox begins. You did speed it up with the water, that was a good thing. I had symptoms like that (also so did Jinjee talifero , you can check out her experience on www.thegardendiet.com It will pass. When it does you will be on another level of health and wellness! Congrats!

What an interesting experience! This morning I woke up feeling great, my throat was fine, I went to toilet again, and my skin is getting better.
I thought that the detox was longer, but mine lasted only one day!! I went out for a little jogging this morning, but I felt so weak, so I had to walk most of the time, my hearth was running very fast. I will take it easy today, is my last day, and I am planning two days eating bananas, persimmon and apples!! Yumm!!
Another interesting thing: I lost 2 pounds yesterday, I couldn't believe at the scale this morning!! I have surely eliminated a lot of wastes during my strong detox.
Jay, the only thing I can say is that maybe you needed to fast longer to see major results, but it is difficult to say. If you eat raw, anyway, you will lose your weight for sure, slowly maybe, but you will lose it!! And Todd is right, the little you have lost is probably fat and toxins, not water, as you have lost so much recently.

Jay
11-19-2004, 04:44 AM
Yeah, I suppose you guys are right...
It took me years to gain it all, so I can't expect to lose it all in half a year, I'm just not patient enough I guess...

Fragola, I admire you, you've done so great, I can imagine the amount of bananas you are going to eat tomorrow, hahaha! Enjoy them! Oh and have fun in England, I bet it's cold and rainy, just like here in Belgium, but London is so much fun!!

Edda, congrats on your fast, I'm so glad you've done 6 days already! Whoohooooo!

All the others, I admire you too!!! :)

For people that want to know, I ended my fast today!!!
I did 11 days of juice fast and 3 of water fast, and during the last 3 days I saw major improvements, great detox, bigger weight loss.
I have lost about:
15 pounds
0.4 inches chest
2.8 inches waist
1.6 inches hips
0.8 inches calfs
1.2 inches thighs
0.8 inches arms

I am VERY happy about my results, I couldn't believe it!! I am now going to eat my perfectly ripe persimmon, and leaving for a weekend in England. Life is soooo great!!!! :D
I hope to be able to manage the post-fast days and not overeat!
I hope you will have a great weekend,
Ciao!!

Thank you all, thank you so much for all the support!!
I had a great weekend, and eating again is fantastic!

I am feeling a bit frustrated today, as it seems that I have already put on almost 4 pounds during the weekend  but I don't think I have eaten too much!

I have always been a fruit lover, not liking greens so much, but after my fast I craved greens very badly, so I have eaten mostly salads made of: green leaves, tomatoes, avocado, sweet corn. No dressing at all, no nuts. I have had salad for breakfast, unbelievable! I haven't eaten so much fruit, maybe 5-6 fruits during the two days. I have been a bit greedy with meedjol dates, about 5 or 6 per day, so that could be the problem. Ah, I almost forgot, I have eaten olives, I have craved olives very much!

I am glad that I am loving my raw food a lot more, all my cravings for bad stuff are gone completely.
Another interesting thing that this fast have done to me is that my BM are so more regular. I have always had problems with my BM, now I am having two BM a day!! I have the feeling that I eat food-I digest it-I eliminate the waste quickly without retaining anything!

I can say that a period of fast can really help to become raw, to eliminate cravings, to eat more simply. At least, it seems that have worked for me!

I hope that I will be able to lose some more pound, then I will post a new picture, hoping to see some difference from the last one :)

Thank you again for all your help!!

Fragola,

What a testimony! A recipe for raw success! Start out with a 14-21 day juice fast! Don't worry about the weight, it will fluctuate, but as long as you are 90-100% raw it will eventually end up where it should. Are you going to fast on a regular basis?

Peace.

Todd
