My name is Donna, and I recently started eating raw. My revelation into your world came while I was at Costco, of all places. I stopped to watch a Blendtec demonstration and the salesguy made a tropical ice cream and added spinach and cabbage to it. It was delicious and my eyes lit up. At that moment I realized I could make my own ice cream and it could actually be healthy. He then made a soup in the blender and when I mentioned that it didn't seem to be very hot, he told me that raw foodies really liked the blender because they could make soup and it was a temperature that they liked and that the soup should not be very hot due to destroying enzymes, yada yada....
Raw food? I came home and Googled more information and suddenly everything clicked for me.
I don't much like food. I don't like red meat, hate anything fried - or greasy, despise frozen meals, haven't been to a drive-thru in at least 10 years, and in general, live from day-to-day picking at things. I don't even like going to restaurants and eating out because I think the food sucks - most of the time anyway. But, I do like ice cream and chocolate. Unfortunately, not very much nutrition there. Then I found this site.
I ordered Alissa's book and DVDs and when they came, I immediately went to the farmer's market for veggies and fruits. I'm on my 3rd day of raw now and I feel completely nauseous. I tried to do 100%, but I'm used to drinking coffee and today I made a cup of green tea (only took a few sips) to try to stop the pounding in my head, but I still feel nauseous. Is this normal? Today I've had a green apple/kiwi/papaya juice for breakfast, a shot of wheat grass mid-morning, one fudge ball at some point, Alissa's fettucini alfredo for lunch, a few sliced cantaloupe, and now a few sips of green tea.
This is the first day that I've felt this bad. Yesterday I felt OK and didn't need any tea or coffee. Do you think I am I eating too much or is the combination bad?
About me: I live in Atlanta. I'm used to drinking a cup or two of coffee in the morning, maybe a cup of tea in the afternoon. I don't drink alcohol. I work-out fairly vigorously 3-4 times a week (fitness camp), and I'm 56 years old. And I feel terrible. Bleh.
