My name is Donna, and I recently started eating raw. My revelation into your world came while I was at Costco, of all places. I stopped to watch a Blendtec demonstration and the salesguy made a tropical ice cream and added spinach and cabbage to it. It was delicious and my eyes lit up. At that moment I realized I could make my own ice cream and it could actually be healthy. He then made a soup in the blender and when I mentioned that it didn't seem to be very hot, he told me that raw foodies really liked the blender because they could make soup and it was a temperature that they liked and that the soup should not be very hot due to destroying enzymes, yada yada....

Raw food? I came home and Googled more information and suddenly everything clicked for me.

I don't much like food. I don't like red meat, hate anything fried - or greasy, despise frozen meals, haven't been to a drive-thru in at least 10 years, and in general, live from day-to-day picking at things. I don't even like going to restaurants and eating out because I think the food sucks - most of the time anyway. But, I do like ice cream and chocolate. Unfortunately, not very much nutrition there. Then I found this site.

I ordered Alissa's book and DVDs and when they came, I immediately went to the farmer's market for veggies and fruits. I'm on my 3rd day of raw now and I feel completely nauseous. I tried to do 100%, but I'm used to drinking coffee and today I made a cup of green tea (only took a few sips) to try to stop the pounding in my head, but I still feel nauseous. Is this normal? Today I've had a green apple/kiwi/papaya juice for breakfast, a shot of wheat grass mid-morning, one fudge ball at some point, Alissa's fettucini alfredo for lunch, a few sliced cantaloupe, and now a few sips of green tea.

This is the first day that I've felt this bad. Yesterday I felt OK and didn't need any tea or coffee. Do you think I am I eating too much or is the combination bad?

About me: I live in Atlanta. I'm used to drinking a cup or two of coffee in the morning, maybe a cup of tea in the afternoon. I don't drink alcohol. I work-out fairly vigorously 3-4 times a week (fitness camp), and I'm 56 years old. And I feel terrible. Bleh.

I think you are going through a detox phase. Every time :o I go 100% I get a headache and feel just crappy in general for a couple days. Then it goes away. I never had it really bad and I think that the worse you were eating before the worse you will go through detox. So be thankful you were a pretty healthy eater to begin with and relax for the next couple days and you go through it. Then don't be like me and go back to SAD cause I keep having to go through it. LOL

Welcome Donna. You're experiencing some detox, which is good. It means you're getting healthy. Keep sticking with it. The juices are likely causing more detox than if you stuck with green smoothies. However, it likely is better in the long run because you're cleansing even more. Eating a lot is important for the first few months or year. Don't worry about it. You will eventually cut back because your body won't need as much food.

Oh and there's tons of nutrition in raw ice cream and chocolate! :)

Hi Donna -- welcome to RFT!

You will be fine, really, just give it a little time . . . detox is a beautiful thing, even though it feels pretty yucky.

I've heard that coming off of coffee can do all kinds of things.....headaches, make you sick etc. It might also be some detox but I'd be looking at the coffee. Whatever it is, you'll still do great and it will pass. Good luck!

Its reassuring to know this may only be a detox phase, but I hope it doesn't take too long to get through it.

Dimond, I don't actually have a blender yet, so I'm unable to make smoothies at present. I didn't buy the Blendtex from Costco, but I did order one on line. Should be here in few days. I purchased an inexpensive food processor. I also found an Omega juicer on Craigslist, so I've been making juice.

Seems like everytime I want to make an interesting recipe, I'm always missing some ingredient. I went to purchase some almond butter yesterday and almost fainted at the price. I think I may be able to make it myself in the Blendtec? I saw a Youtube video that demonstrated making it using raw almonds and coconut oil. Apparently, another ingredient I need. Is there a good online source for ordering raw supplies? I know there are many sites that sell, but I'd like to know which ones are best and most reliable.

Thanks again!
