Sometimes its fun to make quick lite smoothies. ok, so maybe not as complete as more complex recipes, but still very nutricious. Fast and easy to prepare.

Example: Cucumber Lime: an odd combo but an amazing flavor

----------What is your fav quick ( 2 or 3 ingredients) smoothie ?----------

My thoughts exactly. Why would one make anything other?

Banana, Pineapple, and Baby Bok Choy (quick because I would be using the other half of the Pineapple from the day before!)

i've never had a smoothie that wasn't quick and easy...

Maybe I'm slow.. but if I'm doing something or in a hurry I don't want to get a bunch of veggies and fruit out of the fridge. Then open the bag of celery, tear off a couple of stalks. Take a couple of leafs of lettuce. After taking the ingredients I will use, putting the celery back in the bag and rewrapping what has to be rewrapped. Putting the unused ingredients back in the fridge. Getting out the cutting board. Coring the apples. Peeling what needs to be peeled. Washing what needs to be washed. Cutting into chunks. Then cleaning the cutting board and ustencils. Etc.

Sometimes, when I'm in a hurry I just want to put a couple of foods in the blender and enjoy the smoothie. Since my blender is easier to clean than my juicer I can save an extra couple of minutes by blending instead of juicing.

I do make smoothies that are longer to prepare than others. Lately, to save time, when I'm busy I have been trying 2 or 3 ingredient smoothies. They taste as good as the more elaborate ones.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! Another thing I find helpful is to prewash my greens. That way they are ready to go on my busier days, plus it makes it easier to successfully rotate greens throughout the week.

Jeeez, you do all that? No wonder. Peeled? I've never peeled anything that goes in mine. Takes me less than 3 minutes to make my 64 oz. smoothies including washing the container.

What a great idea ! I could prewash my greens and put them into a container. At smoothie time, open the container take what I need.. done !

Super ! Thank you !

An automatic peeler would be useful.

Any good ceramic peeler will do or, get a cai bao from UB Raw (http://UBRaw.com).

Then why not have a few specific smoothies you make when you're in a hurry. I make a simply banana, spinach, blueberry smoothie that tastes wonderful. You could even (for those super busy moments) have everything you need for one smoothie in a ziploc bag in the freezer... open bag, dump in ingredients, add water, turn on vita-mix and VOILA... you are done!

I will be washing my greens for the week (yes!) ..so.. then taking some of these greens and preparing individual smoothies in zip locks by combining them with other ingredients....... Major improvement !.... Thank you !
btw, yes, banana ( easy to peel) blueberry and spinach is a good example.

And lots of super good examples in this thread! I feel like I will be making progress.
Thanks to all !

Ever since going raw, I started getting certain cravings. Lately its cinnamon. So I've been on that particular smoothie kick lately. I usually add a little cashew powder to mine. I make it ahead of time and keep it in the freezer for my smoothies. Theres something awesome about cashew powder with that smoothie. It gives it some extra yummy taste!

Haven't tried cashew powder. Sounds good tho. Will look for some at the coop.
Premixing ingredients is such a great idea: making stuff ahead of time. I guess thats where the lifestyle changes kick in.

I plan on doing a lot of prewashing, premixing and prepacking my smoothie ingredients.

Not exactly a quickie, unless....

Does anyone know if I peel a cucumber and put it in a zip-lock... will it keep fresh for say 2-3 days ?

If so, I can prepare a couple of broccoli, celery, cucumber smoothies in zip locks for quick use during the week. This mighty combo is hailed as " an extremely powerful detoxifier" by health journalist Sarah Owen.

She doesn't sell it anymore, but it has (doing this from memory), barley grass, wheat grass, spirulina, chlorella, sea greens and the like...can't remember what all. LOTS of land and sea greens.

It's a quick "Get Up and GO!" drink when I'm in a hurry!

Healthforce Vitamineral Green is the same Jameth Sheridan formula that Alissa sold. I get the 500gm bottle from RawVeganSource (http://www.rawvegansource.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi) for $54.99. The smaller 300gm bottle is $39.99. Watch out for pricing differences. Healthforce has a pricing structure that has one store (Grawnola Market) charging $56.99 for the smaller 300gm bottle. David Wolfe charges even more for his "Sun is Shining" label which is also the same formula.

Just a short note to say thank you for the feedbacks in this thread.

Preparing my greens for the (work) week has saved me lots of time. I also prepare a couple of zip-locks ready to pop the ingredients into the blender. I have been able to make more smoothies (with a better balance of greens) in less time. Great recipes too ! Thanks to all.

Rick, do you put those zip locks of the greens in the freezer? Are they juiced? I started doing that myself. I mean, I know fresh is better but sometimes I don't have the time and I find that its better to have green juice always on hand so I can't make any excuses. ;)

Here's what I do, I make green juice pretty much every day. I will, however, run into some days where I might not have time to make it or I see that my big container of spinach needs to be used up quicker, I freeze it. I actually did this when I went scuba diving and when I went on vacation. I juiced a bunch of spinach and lemons and limes together and then make separate one day servings in little bags then froze them. I brought a cooler with me and it worked out perfectly! I was still able to have my green juice!:)

Coring the apples.
Don't core the apples!! There are uber-healthy nitrilosides in those seeds!!

I agree that all my GS's are pretty quick... granted, I don't usually use "high-maintenance" fruits/veggies... I don't peel things (unless it's not organic, but 90% of what I use is organic now -- that way I don't have to be as fastidious about washing everything impeccably)... most work I will do is do a few rough quick slices to get most of the peel off a lemon (but some of the peel goes into the smoothie)... basically, I open the refrigerator, grab, throw in, grab, throw in, blend, bam, done.

Very interesting ! I must try that ! Green juice to go. I could even bring one to the gym for a post-workout green drink ! Better still, to enjoy one in nature: while hiking or canoeing. The thought of thawing and enjoying a green drink wherever I like is quite appealing. Thank you for the idea Christinajade.

Sounds good MrsJohnnyG. About the apple seeds tho. Are you sure ? Someone told me they contain a substance that is not good for us. I checked again and got the same answer.. to core to avoid consuming the seeds. Not having to core would save time... I hope you are right.

Yes, I'm sure. The reason people think they shouldn't eat the seeds is that they (WRONGLY) think they contain a deadly form of cyanide. This is a very common misunderstanding... actually they contain a cyanide compound that cannot harm healthy human cells. (They do, however, become "unlocked" in the presence of cancer cells, which they kill on contact... but the compound is absolutely harmless in the presence of healthy cells.)

I've been eating apple seeds and other "cyanide" seeds for a while now and I'm quite healthy! Even when I eat an apple (as opposed to putting it into a smoothie), I eat the seeds right along with it.

Of course, like just about anything, you wouldn't want to eat a HUGE amount of apple seeds at one time (if you're eating them apart from the apple). A good rule of thumb is, don't eat more seeds than you'd be able to physically eat along with the whole fruit.
