Hi there! Just loved the energy of this website and this forum, so I wanted to stop lurking finally LOL.

I'm Lisa and I am 33. I am from Metro Detroit, Michigan. I am pretty new to the raw foods lifestyle, but have always been interested in improving my health and fine-tuning things. I also eat an 'allergen-free' diet (for me, I can't eat wheat, dairy, soy, gluten, etc.).

A gal pal of mine introduced me over a year ago to raw and since then, I have been slowly transitioning. I love all the recipes and new foods...very fun! I also love the health improvements (I thought I was 'healthy' before, but now I am just astounded and know even more good is on its way!).

I have noticed that my spiritual path is leading me to eat this way as my 'vibration' increases...This diet is a wonderful adjunct to my yoga and meditation, etc. It also really helps to fine-tune your inner guidance or intuition ;)

I am very excited to see the board on this site that relates to exercise and raw...I am an avid cyclist (I race on the road and also ride my mtn. bike for fun.)--I really like to eat and think of food as a very 'spiritual' thing :)

I love to learn new things and to grow personally and look forward to meeting everyone here :)

Thanks for listening :)

Big hugs,
Lisa

Welcome Lisa!

Now where were you when I was in Detroit trying to find other raw foodists or those interested in raw? LOL! I just moved from Detroit last month to Washington State.

But there have been some raw food potlucks and classes taking place in Dearborn. If you don't already have the info, I can get it for you.

Also, there is a lady and her daughter in Lansing who are raw and they have meetings, etc. there too: http://eatfreshfood.com

The Natural Food Patch in Ferndale is the SPOT! You will get just about all you need from there and what you can't get there, you can get online. I had never visited Wholefoods in Michigan, but there are a couple there. There's also the Co-op (forgot where it is) and Trader Joes as well where you can get almond butter, nuts, frozen fruit and Lara Bars.

Best to you!

Hi Lisa,

Welcome!
I am also in the Detroit area (Downriver). I have been raw for 29 days (with a couple falls off the wagon  )! I haven't attended any potlucks yet. Do you have Alissa's book? If not, I would highly reccommend it.

I'm going to have to try the Natural Food Patch in Ferndale that Rawkinlocs suggested. There is a new health food store that just opened in my city. I'll have to check it out, too. I usually shop at Westborn Farm Market in Dearborn and Whole Foods, Trader Joes in Ann Arbor. I would love to have more stores near me - but just not the case.

Hi and thanks for the welcome :)

Rawinlocs,
You are so kind for sharing those resources with me...That is very kind of you. I loooove Ferndale so next time I am there I am going to check that one place out :) I am lucky because up by me we have 2 Whole Foods, a Good Food Co., 2 Trader Joe's--so no excuses for me LOL. BTW, I loved Washington state when I visited...I went to Seattle two years ago and absolutely loved it (very gorgeous there).

Shelly,
Hey, you are a head of me--I am still transitioning into raw (still have a cooked dinner LOL), so kudos on the 29 days :) I notice there are potlucks too in the Ann Arbor area and some raw cooking classes (If you want, I can find the link)...I haven't been either to any potlucks yet :) I love that market at Westborn...I am an hour from Dearborn so I don't get down there much, but it is very nice :) (I live near Utica/Shelb Twp. area so I am close to Troy and Rochester which have a lot of markets, etc.). I am planning on ordering Alissa's book and DVD soon...I exhausted my book budget this month LOL.

Thanks for the 'hi' :)

Hugs,
Lisa
