I am the only raw foodist in my family. Luckily its just me and my husband and dogs. I take that back, my dogs are raw too but raw meat. Anyway this is going to be my first raw holiday, Thanksgiving. I am completely overwhelmed with different recipes and stuff. Here is the situation: I have decided on some things I want to make for myself. Here's the hard part. I'm going to my sister's house and she lives about an hour and half a way. So that means no dehydrator over there to warm up my food. I guess thats not the worst of it. I don't really mind room temperature. I want to come as close to the real thing as I can. I am also only going to prepare enough for me with maybe a little extra because no one else is going to eat it. I'm also going to be making a couple cooked dishes for my family.

Here's the list of foods I want to prepare for just me. Any suggestions on a variation or different recipe would be greatly appreciated! :)

Mashed Potatoes: Parsnip-Pine Nut Whip from goneraw.com (everyone seems to like this one)

Gravy: Cream of Mushroom Soup or Gravy from rawgourmet.com

Stuffing: Stuffing Fantasy (as suggested on this forum)

Cranberry Almond Slaw (forgot where I got this one)

Turkey: I need a really good imitation recipe for this one. Any ideas?

Potato Salad: Anyone?

I am making a couple of raw deserts, gingerbread cookies and cherry cream pie.

That will be about all that I will need. I don't want to go overboard with big portions. Just enough for me and a little extra left over. (I'm guessing my sarcastic relatives will want to try);)

I am sort of new to this forum and I noticed that some people give a post number to find a recipe in a certain post from a while back. How do I look that up. Sorry...maybe a dumb question.

a post number? are you sure they aren't referring to a recipe page number in Alissa's book?

Wow, you are making more food than I am for myself and my two daughters!

Alissa has a mock turkey loaf. I haven't made it so don't know what it tastes like.

I haven't seen people give post numbers but have seen lots of links to specific threads.

I don't care for the potato salads made with jicama. My eyes get excited because it looks so much like the "real thing" but my mouth is always disappointed that it doesn't taste like the real thing. :o If you are making the mashed stuff, maybe you don't also need potato salad? But rather maybe another good thing like pesto stuffed mushrooms or sumpn' as they go over well with SAD folks.

I hope you have a wonderful meal and a wonderful holiday!

Ah yes, a recipe page number. I looked at the posts again. As far as food for just me. The deserts are for everyone. So what I will be having is the mock turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy and cranberry slaw. I am going to be making very small portions. I do not want a ton of left overs and I have a feeling my family will be way too occupied with their food.

I've never made an mock turkey loaf, but I'm planning to marinate a peeled portobello mushroom or two in poultry seasoning, salt and olive oil. You can peel the mushroom by lifting the brown edge and peeling it toward the center. It looks like a piece of white meat and mushrooms absorb all seasonings.

As far as warming your food--you could heat your glass plate itself in the microwave or oven. I dont see why on this one occasion a quick stint in the oven to warm it up a bit would be too damaging.

To find a certain recipe--click on the search function, then advanced search, then type in what you are looking for. Sometimes it's helpful to also choose to read posts that have over 10 replies, as if it's good people will talk about it. Here's the return for searching for thanksgiving with over 10 replies.

That's a LOT of food. I think you are wise to arm yourself with lots of goodies because you will be less tempted. I wish you well!

Ok so looking back at the LARGE amount of food for "just me", I decided to make some changes. I'm going to be making the following but I will be cutting the recipes drastically so that it only make enough for 2 servings. This way I can have one plate and there will be a little left over for my family to taste.

Noasted Turkey

Parsnip/pine mashed potatoes

Mushroom gravy

Stuffing Fantasy

Cranberry/almond slaw

I think my adjustments of servings made will be much better. I will basically have enough for one plate! Sound better?:)
