Have any of you grated your own cinnamon? I grate my nutmeg fresh all the time and it is so much better than the kind in the jar that is already grated. I'd like to do that with cinnamon, but don't know if it will work. I can't imagine that it wouldn't, but I'm not sure. Thanks.

It should work fine with the same plane or grater used on the nutmeg. I've run it through a coffee/spice grinder (and bullet) before.

I can't grate cinnamon with my grater that I use for nutmeg, but it's not a good one. The sticks are too hard and break in pieces. I just buy bulk Frontier Herbs organic cinnamon pwd from the HF store and its really good

Thanks streetsurfer. I'll try the coffee grinder and report back.

My Vitamix dusts cinnamon sticks right up. My previous run-of-the-mill blender also did a pretty good job. Of course its gotta be mixed with a liquid.

I tried using my microplane and it didn't work at all. Then I put the sticks in the coffee grinder and it ground them right up and I now have awesome cinnamon! I threw the old stuff away. I will grind up a couple of sticks and keep it on hand. This is way better than the stuff in jars already ground!

It's been working fine for me on a microplane that also gets used for nutmeg and ginger. I just have to use low angle of approach, as though I were sharpening a pencil on a piece of sandpaper. But granted, a mill is much faster.

I want to grate my own too. I think it would taste way better than the jar ones.
